Breaking News Update on Hereward Community Rail Partnership

Updated with presentation.

Having heard nothing for 6 months I contacted Cllr Simon King who chairs the committee.
(Portfolio Holder for Equalities & Transport)

Greater Anglia presentation can be viewed Here

The contents are very ambitious and far reaching, including replacing ALL Diesel Locos.

I have attended on many occasions meetings with what was Anglia Abillio – Cllr King is very confident after last weeks meeting that these ambitious plans will be delivered.

Serious Fraud – Please Beware (04/04/17)

Fraudsters are sending out a high volume of phishing emails to personal and business email addresses, pretending to come from various email addresses, which have been compromised.   The subject line contains the recipient’s name, and the main body of text is as below:
“Hi, [your Name]!   I am disturbing you for a very serious reason. Although we are not familiar, but I have significant amount of individual info concerning you. The thing is that, most likely mistakenly, the data of your account has been emailed to me.  For instance, your address is:   [real home address]   I am a law-abiding citizen, so I decided to personal data may have been hacked. I attached the file – [your surname].dot that I received, that you could explore what info has become obtainable for scammers. File password is – 2811   Best Wishes,”
The emails include an attachment – a ‘.dot’ file usually titled with the recipient’s name.

This attachment is thought to contain the Banking Trojan Ursniff/Gozi, hidden within an image in the document. The Ursniff Banking Trojan attempts to obtain sensitive data from victims, such as banking credentials and passwords. The data is subsequently used by criminals for monetary gain. Protect Yourself:

Having up-to-date virus protection is essential; however it will not always prevent your device(s) from becoming infected.   Please consider the following actions:

  • Don’t click on links or open any attachments you receive in unsolicited emails or SMS messages: Remember that fraudsters can ‘spoof’ an email address to make it look like one used by someone you trust. If you are unsure, check the email header to identify the true source of communication (you can find out how by searching the internet for relevant advice for your email provider).
  • Do not enable macros in downloads; enabling macros will allow Trojan/malware to be installed onto your device. See below
  • Always install software updates as soon as they become available. Whether you are updating the operating system or an application, the update will often include fixes for critical security vulnerabilities.
  • Create regular backups of your important files to an external hard drive, memory stick or online storage provider. It is important that the device you back up to is not connected to your computer as any malware infection could spread to that as well.
  • If you think your bank details have been compromised, you should contact your bank immediately

If you have been affected by this or any other fraud, report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040, or visit www.actionfraud.police.uk

How to enable/disenable macros can be seen by: Takes you to Microsoft help

NQS PPG

Last nights meeting of the New Queens Street Surgery – Patient Participation Group was very well attended by some 15 members. Various updates were given and we found out that ‘The Tesco planning application’ (outline) which is directly behind the surgery has been passed! – There are some reserved matters yet to be decided and a full application to be submitted.
I raised the issue of getting appointments, over the last 3 weeks, there have been no online appointments available – (All gone) and that’s looking 2 or 3 times a day, telephoning is again somewhat stressful and the only guaranteed way is to queue up at around 7:45 in the morning which I and many other do regularly. It a sign of our ever increasing population.

There will be a PPG awareness week 19th – 24th June.

There is a ‘new’ Health App – which can be downloaded and tells you of the nearest medical/dental/chemist services etc. It is available in several languages.
“MyHealth C&P CCG” on
Apple App Store
Google Play
Microsoft

Click on picture above for move information.

Next NQS PPG is on 15th May 2017 @ 7pm – New Queen Street Surgury,

Ongoing Fly-Tipping & North Bank

Peterborough has been a big lengths to promote itself as ‘The Environmental Capitol of Europe’ – really – Burnt out vehicles – 8 cars at day broken into – The forever increasing Fly-tipping near Fengate – I see today that the Low Life carrying out this act have started to dump their waste behind the Gas Pumping Station along Storeys Bar Road.
It is all very well PCC issuing notices to the poor land-owner on which the Fly-Tippers are doing their business – but what are ‘They’ doing to help the Landowner.
Again the ‘In-a-hurry driver’ who I estimate was overtaking me at 50+mph and still accelerating along North Bank (Speed limit 40mph for safety reasons)

On-going Fly-Tipping – Fengate Area

Okay, I am moving outside my comfort zone! – Fengate – however – too close for comfort – the fly tipping is of concern to us here in Whittlesey.
My correspondent Cllr Eamonn Dorling is on the case – as I said, what is happening is becoming too close for comfort – The Fly tippers are dumping material in broad daylight.

A couple of pictures did have the effect of generating a response from PCC. Firstly an email followed by a phone message that confirmed the rubbish has been dumped on private land that PCC is not responsible for, but that they have taken action by issuing a summons to the land owner(s) and requesting a clear up and action to prevent it happening again, obviously I will monitor the situation, and if nothing has happened soon after Easter they will find some further pictures in their in tray and possibly looking out from the local press pages.
Thanks to Cllr Dorling for high lighting this serious issue and contacting Peterborough City Council.

More Trending News….

See attached poster re Charity Walk – the details have not yet been finalised and further news will come from ‘The Fens’ magazine in the months to come.
Not overly challenging and you will raise money for two local good causes.
Defibrillators for All and the Whittlesey Young Peoples Counselling Service. – More info as received later.

Apologies this is the only information I have about Whittlesey Emergency Food Aid.
However – congratulations are in order.
At a recent Pride in Fenland Award Ceremony Defibrillators for All had achieved Runner Up status in the Organisational Section and Whittlesey Emergency Food Aid won the Outstanding Achievement Award.

The first spring Fair arrives in Whittlesey, some may see it as an inconvenience – but only held 4 times a year.
The Fair has a Royal Charter dating back to King John.
They have a right to hold 4 Fairs a year.

An Open invitation to candidates for County Council Elections

My thanks to who-ever informed Cllr David Connor that he had made my website?
David did call me and we had a good hours dialogue and meaningful conversation.
What I questioned in my article and I stand by and will not remove, as what I wrote is true and correct. I am not questioning Cllr Connors amount of work that he may have done, I said that he had made statements without any substantiation and I therefor invited him to send me any material to back up his election leaflet and I will be more than happy to publish it.
As I stated in my article – anyone who puts material through my door will be treated the same – fairly and without prejudice.

I have created a separate page heading on the top bar menu.
It is his/their call – I await his/their material.

My article was on 25th March and can be viewed either by scrolling down or

My website goes far and wide, I get a number of ‘foreign’ visitors weekly, and it is nice to have reached parts of Fenland I would not normally have visitors from – my thanks again for informing Cllr David Connor.

Have a good weekend

Cyber Security Seminar @ Police HQ

Yesterday I attended a 4 hour seminar about Cyber Security at Hinchingbrooke Police HQ, there was a morning and afternoon session. Our group consisted of around 40 individuals including several high ranking Police Officers, Cyber specialists and some members of the public like myself and Morcom Lunt from Cambs NHW Executive committee.
Very informative and wide ranging, but the presenter kept hammering home the need for people to use ‘Strong Passwords’ and NOT to use the same passwords throughout the whole of their internet browsing.
NHW Secretary Robin Sutton attended the morning session, we hope to put together a simple presentation that can be put to other community groups within our area in the near future.
Passwords should always be between 10 and 15 characters long….upper & lower case and at least (1)@”£$% ‘Special character’

The government – Police and private cyber companies all suggest the website:

www.getsafeonline.org for a vast amount of information (Beginners to expert levels)

Every day – someone in the Whittlesey area is a victim of scammers/skimmers or what-ever you want to call them.
Please visit the site above and you will be surprised by carrying out just simple tasks you will reduce your risks.

Note: The Technical Director Rob Hadfield quoted ‘Mobile Banking is more secure than Internet Banking’ – yes there is a difference….

Driving/Parking High Causeway – You Have been warned

The forever ongoing issues of people and delivery drivers accessing High Causeway when they shouldn’t has come to a head again. This was highlighted (again) at last weeks NHW meeting. Since then I received several e-mails asking me to take it further.

So… I have spoken with/to:
The Town Clerk
PCSO Shane Green
Cllr Kay Mayor
Cllr & Mayor Alex Miscandlon
Cllr Eamonn Dorling

The answer to the question about High Causeway was consistent in that The Town Council are forever highlighting the issue to both the Police and the Highways Agency.
Cllr Miscandlon has a meeting with the Sector Inspector (Hills) next week and will again highlight the ongoing issue.
Tomorrow (Friday) I will be attending Cyber Aware seminar at Hinchingbrooke Police HQ in Huntingdon, whilst there I plan to raise the issue with the Superintendent responsible for Fenland.
My investigation reveals that the Road signage is correct and can be enforced by the Police

Updated e-mail from PCSO Green (yesterday 29th)

No problem I will look into this and monitor the situation between myself and PCSO FROMENT.
I can in fact inform you a pro-active approach has been taken after the issue was raised by the council some months ago with PCSO FROMENT issue numerous tickets down there, however like any parking issue when we are not there they will continue to park there. Hopefully a few more tickets will send out a clearer message.
Any constant offending vehicles ‘number plates’ so I can provide words of advice to would be much appreciated.

The situation along High Causeway is not being made easy – I and many others appreciate that for businesses to receive deliveries is a difficult situation – it is fact that the whole scenario is getting out of hand.

I hope the message gets out – Drive or Park/Wait along High Causeway when you shouldn’t be there and you may well end up being given a ‘TICKET’

Next part of this campaign will be to take photographs of any offending vehicles.

Excellent Business Forum Meeting –

Updated 170330-12:21

The ‘newly created’ WBF is in its 2nd year under the current membership, this has reached a very healthy number of over 40+ local businesses, with a few like myself who are interested in passionate in promoting our town the best way we can.
At last nights meeting about 34 members attended a very good turn out.

On the agenda.
A very good presentation by Cllr Michelle Tanfield, the Portfolio Holder for Tourism & Leisure at FDC – she made a very good shortish presentation which was very articulate in both content and delivery, Whittlesey was mentioned a number of times, but it was ‘Fenland’ as a whole that needs better tourism promotion.
Update: Here is the link to the website : http://www.visitcambridgeshirefens.org/

Next was Liz Cooke Business Manager at Barclays Bank,  she informed the Forum that ‘locally’ there are no plans to change anything at Barclays Whittlesey – that’s not to say that Corporate decisions higher up may at sometime change?.
She said she had been very busy in transferring Ex Norwich & Peterborough Building Society accounts.

Natasha Shiels Editor of the Fens Magazine will be organising a charity walk – more on this later. Two Whittlesey Charities will be supported by this event – more to follow.

Cllr Eamonn Dorling updated the Neighbourhood Plan –
Click Here to see article 22nd March
Some 7,500 forms have been sent out to the Whittlesey/Village areas – so far some 10% have been returned (a good number by survey standards)

Finally Cllr/The Mayor, Alex Miscandlon gave the Forum an update on ‘Must Farm’ – again Whittlesey Tow & District Councillors appear to be promoting our town hard on this item.
Must Farm is in the Whittlesey area – not as many times quoted Peterborough, WTC/FDC Councillors sit on a steering committee planning the future of the Must Farm artefacts.
A very good and informative meeting.
