Whittlesey Town Council – Wednesday 08th May 2019

On Wednesday 08th May – There will be A Parish Assembly & Annual Council Meeting –
Start time 19:00.
An agenda will be coming on Tuesday 07th May.

As I have stated earlier, after an election, those who have been ‘elected’ do not officially become ‘councillors’ until 4 days later – then those ‘elected’ have to sign a ‘Declaration of Office’ prior to the commencement of the meetings, those ‘elected’ also will be given a ‘Register of Interests’ document for completion – these are public documents.

For the residents of St Marys Ward South – as your elected representative I will be attending Wednesday’s meeting, if for any reason I cannot attend meetings, I will have someone on my behalf (a member of the public) listening in or a making representation
should that be necessary.

So that there in no confusion or ambiguity below is a map of the DC2/St Marys Ward South – (©FDC) – Whittlesey Town Council.

Formally St Marys Ward, due to Boundary changes – now consists of St Mary’s North and St Mary’s South.

(St Marys South being inside the Black boundary line)

Some Good and Not so Good News….

Well at long last the ‘scaffolding’ outside of the Library has finally (For the time being) been removed – I spoke to the workmen as they dismantled the scaffolding – they having a real good laugh when I asked whether there had been a daily rate charge for ‘months’ it had been there – so can’t say as they didn’t commit any information – but they seemed very happy anyway – 6 new windows and a bit of flashing….

More Fly-Tipping on the Benwick Road/Eastrea – as always when found BB reports it to FDC who do a fantastic ‘Rapid Response’ in getting it taken away.

Imagine you’ve booked a holiday or long weekend and arrived at the accommodation, only to find that it’s already occupied, or doesn’t actually exist. Or that you’ve paid for airline tickets, but they haven’t arrived in your inbox or through your letterbox … and the seller has become uncontactable.

Thousands of people in the UK become victims of holiday fraud every year, duped by fake websites, advertisements, emails, social media posts, texts or phone calls.
They lose their holiday and their hard-earned money.

Holiday fraud can apply equally to exotic, sun-drenched holidays or UK caravan breaks, ski chalets or pilgrimages, city breaks or flights and train journeys.

How to avoid holiday fraud

  • Thoroughly research accommodation, flights, cruises or package holidays advertised on private advertisements, to check that they are authentic.
  • Check that accommodation really exists by finding on Google Maps and looking for third-party reviews and recommendations. If you can, call the owner/agent directly.
If the number is not provided, email and request it.
  • Check reviews on TripAdvisor or similar sites.
  • Remember that paying by credit card means more chance of getting your money back if something goes wrong.
  • Never transfer money in payment for accommodation or travel. If you do and it’s a fraud, your bank will not be obliged to refund your money.
  • Confirm that travel agents and tour operators are members of trade associations such as ABTA or ATOL. You can do this on these bodies’ websites.
  • If paying online, type in the website address you know to be correct (instead of following a link), ensure the payment page is secure (begins with ‘https’ and has a locked padlock in the browser window frame).
  • Be wary of unusually cheap holidays or high deposits.
  • Check terms and conditions prior to making any payment.
  • Keep confirmations and payment receipts, and check statements for irregular entries.Mr Nigel Sutton Ext: 2773

Today I would like to thank the electorate who voted for me in St Mary’s South @ Whittlesey Town Council – I won the seat today 93 to 61 – there was a 32.17% turnout.

I am here to represent everyone, irrespective of who they voted for, my contact details can be found on the toolbar at the top of the page.
Eamonn Dorling (left on picture) and Bob Wicks (right on picture) were also elected as Independents – Eamonn for Whittlesey Town Council and Bob for both Fenland and Whittlesey. No Labour candidates were successful in Whittlesey or in Fenland.
The Green Party, Lib Dems and Independents made good gains in Town & District.
Several long term FDC councillors lost their seats, Kit Owen (March West), David Oliver (Peckover) and Florie Newall (Slade Lode)

Election – Count – Result

Today is election day for many local authorities. Here in Fenland and some wards in neighbouring Peterborough.
Many wards are uncontested – those candidates who were nominated are automatically elected and no vote takes place.
I and a few others ensure that the due democratic process is available you the electorate.
An election candidate at a council that has a quarter of its seats uncontested said improving the situation was “important for democracy”.

My stance in local elections has always been Independent.

At higher levels of local government – I have no issues about political parties.
I can only encourage the electorate in the ward I am standing in St Mary’s South – Whittlesey Parish/Town Council elections to use their vote – and vote for me –
As my election publicity states – I have a long history in supporting many local organisations, charities and committees – I am here to listen and serve the ward I am standing in.
I am accountable you the electorate – Not the political masters who ‘rule’ a group.
It is your opportunity to have an Independent voice.

At 10:00pm this evening the election process comes to an end, polling stations close.
All ballot papers are placed in a single ballot box. Following the close of the poll the ballot boxes are sealed and returned to the verification and count venue – The Hudson Leisure Centre, Wisbech.
There is a process of verification.
Preparing the count.

The count will take place on Friday 03rd May from 09:30am beginning with Fenland District Council wards and then Town/Parish Council area.
Generally the count goes in alphabetical order of the District.
Town wards again by alphabetical order ie Chatteris, March, Whittlesey, Wisbech.

It is expected that the District ward count will complete by around 1pm
I expect the Town Whittlesey results maybe mid-afternoon.

There are strict rules about photography and reporting.
This is not a public event – only those who applied for a ‘ticket’ are allowed to the count, along with official press.

I hope to be in a position to publish results later Friday afternoon.

Thank you to all those who voted for me.

It’s Good-bye to Barclays Bank Whittlesey – Friday 3rd May

See my article 18th January – I celebrate if that is the right word 50 years of being a customer of Barclays Bank Whittlesey.
I dare say many have come to dislike ‘Banks’ because of the various ‘toxic’ Banking crisis that hit us all during the 1990’s
Several banks have disappeared along with Building Society’s.
I joined Barclays when Mr Clarence Hurst was the Manager.

Barclays state that there will be no job loses and staff will be offered transfers.
I am unable to attend on Friday morning 12:00 when the branch officially closes as I will be attending the ‘Election Count’ in Wisbech – more on this later.

What A Nice Job – Low Cottage – c1650 Whittlesey

Why? – Do Electors want my leaflet outside of St Mary’s South.

I have been asked by many people about my election promo, of course it has been delivered to those residents who live within the St Mary’s Ward South….
Maybe they are not too impressed with what they have received thus far from elsewhere.
I’ll post it – and urge everyone to use their vote this Thursday.
Naturally I would like the residents of St Mary’s South to vote for me.

Should I be successful I may be the only candidate ‘who’ will be able to hold The Council to account.

With more than usual ‘apathy’ and ‘discontent’ with National Politics – we all know why!
But local elections are about ‘local concerns and issues’ – I say – just look at MY track record. MY attending many, many meetings and reporting on this web-blog.
Just out of interest – Nearly ALL present councillors ‘promised’ to keep their electorate informed at the last elections –  Alas it never happened – the odd post on Facebook…and that’s the lot.
You will see and hear what happens here on this site – that’s why I regularly get 3,000 hits a day…..Just ‘click’ on the picture to enlarge, click a 2nd time to further enlarge.
