My Update to Electors in St Marys South

Besides my having this web-blog for 8+ years updating residents not only in and around Whittlesey, but I have for sometime a worldwide audience – maybe the people in Australia and New Zealand who pass by regularly are ex Whittlesey folk.
I have published an update in print form to some of the area of St Mary Ward South and attach it below.
I strongly believe that Councillors should keep in touch with their electorate, this has been promised previously by Councillors for it not to happen.
It may not be in print format as this is an expensive way in this day and age.

Your Chance to Have YOUR Say – Please Do It…..

Please, it takes less than 3 minutes to fill in the online survey.

The Community Safety Partnership (CSP) has designed a survey that allows the community to highlight any issues that affect them or their local area. Information from these will be used to inform the priorities and the work of the CSP.

The overall objective of the CSP is to work in partnership to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.

Urgent Scam Awareness – Facebook

Facebook Missing Child Scam

Cambridgeshire Facebook users are receiving posts about missing children from their local school and being lured into clicking on a link within the post. If you receive such a post, then please do not click on the link as it may take you to a web address that appears to be relevant to missing children and then ask you for an email and password.
It may install malicious software that allows the criminal to remote access your device.
DON’T!

Initial enquires by the Cyber Investigation Team, suggest that these posts and links may have originated in Poland. Because too many people use the same email and password combination for multiple logins to different online accounts, criminals know this and will then try and login to dozens of the mainstream websites/accounts without you knowing in the hope they gain access and steal the commodity of the internet, data.

This scam is being seen across the UK.

There is a constant risk of opening an attachment or clicking on links within text, email and social media. Be satisfied you know who the sender really is before taking action.

Update on Holiday Fraud…..Scams

With reference to my post on the 05th May (below) – I’ve now been informed that ‘someone’ in Whittlesey has been a recent victim of ‘Holiday Fraud’.
Since most people are embarrassed to admit to these scams – we don’t know the full picture.
I was caught a few years ago – when on a tour of Sri Lanka – I stupidly paid the tour operator by Bank Transfer – I got to the final hotel and on leaving found he had not paid for it and ended paying again. Luckily we were staying on at another resort and I got the ‘Tourist Police’ involved – my money was returned on the last day of the holiday.
Lesson learnt – Do not pay by Bank Transfer……and take precautions as in the article below.
This morning on the BBC Website is :-
More than 5,000 people were the victims of holiday booking fraud last year, with their total losses amounting to £7m, research suggests.
