Planning Near-By…..The Fenman

Many of us will remember ‘The Fenman’ Public House – served food! – had music!
Well been closed now for some time and was talk of converting it to a Childrens Nursery.
Alas – developers see better opportunities (money) so now plans into PCC for 7 x 3 bedroom houses….

WTC Planning Meeting – Wednesday 05th September 2018

Disclaimer: These observations are not the ‘official’ minutes of the meeting, these are supplied by Whittlesey Town Council, normally (1) month following the meeting and can be viewed on their website.

With 25 applications on the agenda, this was a busy meeting.
Whittlesey Town Council (Councillors) are consultee’s to the applications and the final decision makers are Fenland District Council (Planning Committee).
Whittlesey TC can make recommendations, give reasons and ask for restrictions – FDC may or may not take their advice/recommendations.
There are a number of Whittlesey (District Councillors) who sit on FDC Planning Committee.

At last nights meeting just myself and Mr Stephen Hodson in attendance as members of the public.
Public Forum: Mr Hodson informed the WTC Planning Committee, that Mr Peter Grice, a local businessman was investing a great deal of money within the town and should be commended – the latest project being ‘The Monastery’ on Market Street – many may have read of the findings of 17th century wall paintings within the building and these we are told are of national importance – Mr Grice is putting up a substantial amount of money to preserve these paintings in situ.
Mr Hodson commented on the positive application for a ‘new’ enlarged school at New Road School.
(RG) I reiterated the comments made about Mr Grice’s investments within the area.
I brought to the attention of the committee, the question of proposed Section 106 payments that Larkfleet Homes had made during their planning application and subsequent approval.
I asked whether Larkfleet had discharged any of these obligations.
I will expand on this in my next article.

Most of the plans submitted were recommended for approval, there are concerns that when tree’s are felled that they should be replaced.

F/YR18/0754/FDL Change of use from Taxi Office to Dog Grooming business (retrospective) at Swift Cabs – There was several questions that the committee wished to have clarified – where does the waste go, where does the waste water get discharged.
The business is at present in operation.

F/2009/18/CC Development of a primary school from 6 classrooms to 14 classrooms at New Road School. Good debate took place and the committee recommended ‘Refusal‘ on the grounds of Road Safety and infrastructure around the site.

Briefly, the school will be greatly enlarged which is welcomed and needed, however, there will be ‘loss’ of parking spaces (Teacher increases) and no provision for Parents to drop off their children, or for ‘Buses’ to safely drop off children from outlaying area’s.
This has a big safety impact, there is no ‘protected safe crossing of the road (New Road or Bellmans Road). WTC are asking for these safety measures to be considered.

Next meeting Monday 17th September 2018

Mud Walls Group

Good meeting in moving forward with plans for the future. The group initially set up 2 years ago to re-map and identify the remaining historical Mud Walls in the area.
The document (with a grant from Glassmoor Wind Turbine Fund) has been completed and has begun to be distributed. A good number of very positive feedback has been given.
One of their next projects will be to go to schools and groups to educate and explain about Whittlesey’s fairly unique (to our area) Mud Walls.
The group will have a display in the Black Bull car park at this Sunday’s Whittlesey Festival.

These People are Desperate – To Make Money

It is an unfortunate fact that ‘thousands’ of mainly young unemployable African people sit in internet cafés 12 to 18 hours a day, paying to market spam around the globe, it has been going on for years.
Here below is – todays’ trick spam’

With warm heart I offer my friendship, I am writing this mail with due respect, trust and humility, I appeal to you to exercise a little patience and read through my letter because I feel quite safe with you.
However strange or surprising this contact might seem to you, as we have not meet before,or had any dealings in the past. I am Miss Sofia Williams 24 years old, a female from the Republic of Sierra-Leone, West Africa, I am the Daughter of Late Mr.Johnson Kuame Williams, My late Father was a well-known liability Cocoa and Gold merchant in Sierra-Leone before his untimely death.

My father deposited the sum of US$7.8 Million in a Bank here in Cote d’Ivoire, I’m seeking for your help in order to transfer the money into your bank account so that you will help and me invest the money in a good profitable business venture over there in your country, as it is my wish to immigrate to your country for the continuation of my education.
I’m constrained to contact you because of the mistreatment which I received from my step mother, since the unexpected death of my father, my step mother and my uncle conspired against me and forcefully, they took possession of all my late father’s properties, leaving nothing for me. My mother died long ago during child birth ,I was left alone with my step mother to take care of me, but she never did, she turn against me with my wicked uncle, but the judgement of God will fall upon them at due time. I hold my peace and left Sierra Leone for Cote d’Ivoire, and right now I’m currently in a Refugee Mission Camp here in Cote d’Ivoire,I need your urgent assistance to come out of here and move to your country for a new life.
I have contacted the bank where the money is and got vital information which will enable us transfer the money to your country legally.
Kindly please indicate your interest if you wish to assist me me, so that I will give you the account details and the contact information of the bank where the money is, so that you will contact them for the transfer.

I am willing to offer you 20% out of the total US$7.8 Million for your assistance while you help me to invest the rest 80% of the fund in a good business venture which you will recommend ,as it is my wish to invest the money under your guidance and protection and continue my study.
Thanks and God bless you in anticipation of your positive response.
Yours sincerely
Miss Sofia Williams.

Another Scam Telephone Call

Female victim was called from a number 01233 281367 which is a Ashford number and as of this morning was still active.
The victim was told she owed the Tax and Revenue and legal action was being taken to recover the amount if she did not pay up fairly quickly.
Fortunately the lady did not do so, and eventually put the phone down.
The victim shared the information with a ‘trusted friend’ who advised her that this was a scam, this has left the victim somewhat distressed.

Can I ask again, that if you are talking with your neighbours and friends that they are made aware of this type of scam. Most people are ‘savvy’ enough to know whether they may be liable for tax or not, but there are some in our community that are not so ‘savvy’

Have a 5 minute read of ‘Which Magazines’ article on Tax Scams… click on the link below.

Another Good PPG Meeting

A good attendance and a short meeting for a change! – One piece of feedback from the Practice Manager was about the ‘new’ telephone appointment system, it has increased the capacity for doctors to see more patients, many of the attendee’s at this evenings meeting gave very positive feedback from the experiences they had received.
Fortunately I have not had to see the Doctors for some time now so can not comment first hand.
The New Queens Street Surgery Flu Clinics have still not been finalised, however the dates of 20th & 27th October maybe pencilled in and once confirmed I will update.

Merchant Navy Day – 03rd September

Again may I thank the Royal British Legion, for ‘Flying The Red Ensign’ – to us ex Merchant Navy Seafarers known as ‘The Red Duster’
Not a lot of wind today but here in Whittlesey a great number of local men went and served in 2 World Wars and several conflicts afterwards, never to return.
Today is a day to remember them.
