Oh Dear What A Mess the Local Conservatives are In

I am not going to dwell too long, but the writing has been on the wall for some time.
I take no joy in that the ‘implosion’ of the local conservative group is of their own making – I have said on many occasions we have ‘some’ very good Conservative Councillors and have always given them ‘kudos’ when deserved (More than would give me).
There have been good Labour councillors in the long past.

After this weeks meeting of NECCA (NorthEast Cambs Conservative Association) – emails flying to and fro, new idea’s being formulated and on-going discontent on their selection process.
I agree with them….. Local members should choose their candidates not someone from Wisbech or where-ever.

I am not going into the sordid details of the upsets, resignations and loss of faith in their own local party.

It looks very likely there will be quite a number of new faces joining Whittlesey Town Council come next May’s elections – possibly a number of Conservatives, maybe this is what Whittlesey needs, some new blood, with hopefully some younger people standing for election.

I also agree 100% with Martin Curtis – Whittlesey needs a ‘Vision’ not just plodding along with lots of differing ‘Wish Lists’ being produced.
Are You that person with a Vision for the future – You are very welcome by everyone.

Then again news has it that Dave wishes to return to politics.
When he and Clegg ran the country I do not apologise in naming them Dumb and Dumber – for two extremely educated people, the gaffs these guys made was unbelievable….
Plus many say it was Dave’s fault in giving in to Nigel F – that we are where we are now…..still things could be worse…!!!!!

Would you trust this man again.
Ran away to make serious money.
Now thinks we have forgotten how dim and dumb he was.
Couldn’t – wouldn’t -take on Farage in direct debate…..

Road Safety Event – Cambs Police

We will be holding our biggest road safety event tomorrow (Friday 2 November).

The 24-hour multi-agency operation starts at 6am and will include enforcement activity targeting the use of mobile phones while driving, speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
More than 350 officers, PCSOs, staff and volunteers are taking part in the event, including Specials, police cadets, neighbourhood officers, road policing officers and representatives from a number of charities and local organisations.

Last year 48 people were killed in Cambridgeshire, 436 were seriously injured and 2307 were injured in collisions.

The operation will be a combination of enforcement and prevention activity, all focused on driver and road user behaviour to save lives and reduce the number of people seriously injured in collisions on the county’s roads.
As well as focusing on the ‘fatal four’ contributors to collisions – mobile phones, speed, seatbelts and drink/drug driving –  the operation will target disqualified drivers who continue to drive, those driving without insurance and poor tyres. Eyesight tests will also be carried out to check motorists are fit to drive.

Prevention activity includes:

·         School visits in around 40 schools and pre-schools carried out by PCSOs in conjunction with road charity Brake and Zak the Zebra.
·         Road safety event at Huntingdonshire Regional College, including Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service and Magpas, during which there will be a crash reconstruction and first aid training.
·         Events in Huntingdon and Cambridge to encourage cyclists to use lights in winter months and stay safe. Cambridgeshire County Council has donated a number of bike lights.
·         Event at Cambridge Regional College, involving police and Mick George, showing students how to pass HGVs safely.

Activity on the day includes:
·         Road side ‘speed gun’ enforcement throughout the county, with a focus on rural areas
·         Intelligence-led operation targeting disqualified drivers who still drive in the county
·         Peterborough – enforcement activity focused on vehicle-related criminality, uninsured drivers and road safety related offences.
·         Tyre checks, supported by the Highways Agency, to check unsafe and illegal tyres.
·         HGV operation in Sawtry targeting HGV offences
·         Op Velo in Cambridge City targeting cycle safety and the ‘fatal four’ using plain-clothed cyclists.
·         Community Speedwatch checks across the county in 45 local towns and villages.
·         A test to find Cambridgeshire’s safest driver through advanced driving sessions with Cambridge Advanced Motorists.
·         Drink and drug drive checks across the county.

Kind Regards,
Superintendent James Sutherland

It Could Be ‘FULL AHEAD’ for the KD Crossing

Where are the – be-moaners – Where are the Social Media Keyboard Warriors who for years have spouted nothing but negativity about the KD Crossing – History No Where to be seen or heard of – except from behind ‘anonymity….as usual!!!

Yes to those positive thinkers…and ‘we’ as community have many to thank for getting to todays decision.

Metro Mayor Palmer publically stated his acknowledgement to Whittlesey Councillor Martin Curtis who has been on this case for many, many years, he also acknowledged more recent County Councillor David Connor for his drive, lobbying and input.
Plus all the other past and present Councillors who for the majority have lobbied when ever they could for this project to happen.

Below David Connor & Myself.
I have always promoted this plan and if you go back on this site 6+ years you can see what was said….I’ve said it has got as far as it ever has done…and now today at the Combined Authority meeting at Peterborough Town Council Chambers,
I was very privileged to witness another major hurdle – The financing of the project
being given the Go-Ahead.
That is not to say there maybe some ‘Risk’ element that may rear it’s ugly self – what ‘if’ during the build another #Must Farm# is discovered….
maybe not but there is still that risk.

Below Cllr Eamonn Dorling.
Myself and WTC Eamonn Dorling attended the meeting from the beginning, Cllr’s Chris Bowden and WTC Mayor Mrs Julie Windle arrived as the meeting was in progress and before the KD X was being discussed.
Cllr Bowden was supposed to make a representation however was too late in arriving and Mayor Palmer read out an e-mail.

It wasn’t all straight forward (As MP Steve Barclay indicated yesterday that it was done and dusted – maybe he was privy to the ‘secret’ pre-meeting yesterday!)

Cllr Herbert from the CA gave the executive presentation with updates on costing and risk factors. There were questions about ‘how’ the ‘price & value’ of the land being purchased has risen dramatically – which was answered as a change of usage – agricultural – to commercial industrial land.
There was the ‘tunnel’ to be provided for the brickworks to transport materials.
Then there was the question of the total value of the project.
CCC Steve Count gave a very supportive argument for the scheme – quoting that the ‘Whole’ project was much more complex than had originally been thought and that there could be surprises which no one has factored.

(l) Cllr Steve Count         (r) Cllr John Holdich
PCC Leader Cllr Holdich also made a supportive speech and the issues of the North Bank being closed.

Today could be a defining day for everyone in Whittlesey and its Villages – at long last after some may say 50 years of ‘wanting’ and ‘waiting’ for a Bridge –
Maybe ‘we’ are just that 1 step closer to it becoming a reality.

There will be an increase in traffic on the A605 in the coming years, that brings other issues and problems – which I’ll cover in the near future.
The ‘Blockage’ at the Cardea/Pondersbridge turning will be addressed with some £2.4 M being allocated for that project.

Video of the moment the committee recommended the KD X be passed and funded.

Oh Dear – The ‘New’ Solar Lighting @ Whittlesey Railway Station.

Further to my previous posting about the much lauded and publicized installation of ‘Solar Cats Eyes’ – here is what we have for £15,000.
Serious questions need to be asked about ‘Value for Money’ – ‘We’ who asked for better lighting at the station were under the impression that ‘overhead lighting’ would be installed.
The picture I am sure illustrates what we have been given – The money came from – You guess – The Mayor for the Combined Authority – who generously supported this.
With the Funding of the Whittlesey/Kings Dyke Railway Bridge being discussed tomorrow – Another question might be asked that with the costs now £30 Million+ is this good value for money.

Consultants Skanska say it is……
Here is what you may see….

My correspondent writes:-
I visited the station this evening to see for myself the highly publicised safety lighting. I was singularly underwhelmed by a series of solar powered cats eyes that had been portrayed as a significant improvement. They are ineffective and not what was required, at roughly £20 a light, they cost 10 times that for installation and to say safety has been improved is nonsense, anyone parking or accessing the area would not be able to identify a potential threat. I anticipated a set of lamp posts using LED lamps powered by one or more PV panels powering a battery storage system. For a lower cost I have had 12 panels installed generating up to 4kW plus battery storage of 5kW, but a set of lights need not be that sophisticated so how come it was not considered as good as 35 pairs of low performance floor mounted cats eyes, is this as much as we can expect in Whittlesey?

Police Updates….

SUNDAY SPEED CHECKS

Today we carried out further speed checks in Whittlesey and Turves. We have received a really positive response so far and will continue with regular checks.

WHITTLESEY PATROLS
PCSO 7172 has been out in Whittlesey throughout today.
Continued attention has been paid to the area of Station Rd and the Manor in relation to recent Anti-Social Behaviour reports. No issues and many youths were out enjoying themselves.
Parking patrols were also conducted. A notable improvement in the area of Church Street, London Street & St Marys Street with no vehicles parked on double yellow lines in this area at the times of patrol

WARNING LETTERS ISSUED TO ANTI-SOCIAL RIDERS – WHITTLESEY.
Today your local policing team stopped four riders of moto-cross bikes along the Green Wheel off Stonald Road for riding in an anti-social manner on fields. The warnings were issued under sect 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002; which means that if these same people are witnessed by a police officer riding/driving in an anti-social manner again within 12 months their vehicles could be seized and crushed.

Want to meet/See your Neighbourhood Police Team…. See below.

Telephone Scams doing the Round….

Telephone Scam – and remember only last Friday Whittlesey Library (Official Desk Computers) were targeted.

This is a general awareness warning to all members. Please could I also ask that you pass this information on to your friends and family who might not be on e-cops.

There has been an increase in calls to land line telephone numbers the initial call is an automated recording informing you that your computer IP address has been compromised and that you need to action it by answering the questions on the phone. It also says that your computer system will be disconnected within a couple of hours. This is a SCAM. If you don’t act on the automated system, you will then receive a call either later that day or the next with a person on the end of the phone informing you of the same, this is not genuine.
The person this happened to was called 5 times by the same male, when the scammer was informed it had been reported to the police the male became very angry. These people will try to intimidate and will appear really plausible they are not.

Please remember your service provider would not contact you in this way!

If this has happened to you please report to the scams at Cambridgeshire County council and to action Fraud….
Action Fraud 0300 123 2040
or actionfraud.police.uk

Kind regards Jules Hanrahan
Crime Reduction And Community Safety Officer
