WTC Meeting – Wednesday 10th July Report Part I

Disclaimer: These observations are not the ‘official’ minutes of the meeting, these are supplied by Whittlesey Town Council, normally (1) month following the meeting and can be viewed on their website.

This month’s WTC meeting started at 7:30pm and finished at 10:35 ^^ 3+ hours of at times arduous debate.
With the length and amount of discussion, I will attempt to keep the report a bit brief…..
Of course you could have joined the 10 members of the Public who listened to most of the meeting…more on this later.
All Councillors present except Cllr Whitwell (apologies sent)
The agenda was published on this website 05th July               Click Here to View Agenda

There will be several parts to the reports due to its length….

Cllr Dee Laws gave a presentation (See below) about The Whittlesey Neighbourhood Plan, after which there was an opportunity to ask questions…which I did.
1/ Risk factors involved.
2/ Benefits not quantitatively evident.
3/ Example of March Town Council issues.
Cllr Laws answered these and other questions very eloquently.
The proposal went to a vote, which was passed.
I and 2 others abstained.
I am not against the NP – unfortunately do not see great benefits in it.

Community Survey

Highlight any issues that affect you or the local area.

The Community Safety Partnership (CSP) has designed a survey that allows the community to highlight any issues that affect them or their local area. Information from these will be used to inform the priorities and the work of the CSP.

The overall objective of the CSP is to work in partnership to reduce crime, anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime and anti-social behaviour.

Showfields On-Going Planning Application

Disclaimer: These observations are not the ‘official’ minutes of the meeting, these are supplied by Whittlesey Town Council, normally (1) month following the meeting and can be viewed on their website.

As most people are aware of the building of 220 houses at the Showfields site on Thorney Road/East Delph, previously the owners of the field had several applications refused, there was a Showfields Action Group, which raised a substantial amount of money and along with FDC had another application refused. It then went to appeal and Mr Philip Rose got his appeal at the Planning Inspectorate to overturn the decision – by fulfilling all the objections at that time.
The land we understand has been sold to Persimmon Homes – who now have outline planning permission to build 220 homes. (FDC – Panning application # F/YR/15/0134/0)
There are now changes to drainage, ditch management and other changes under  :-
(FDC – Reserved Matters F/YR19/158/RM)

At last nights WTC Planning Committee meeting (WTC are consultee’s only – FDC are the ultimate decision makers) – Some robust debate took place, including the omission of a ecological survey being carried out.
Ongoing concerns of drainage, the for-ever issues of access from the ‘Birds Estate’ -becoming an open rat run for the Showfields Estate and if the Wash Road is closed, this will be the only entry/exit.
WTC Planning Committee recommended refusal of the application.
(subject to ratification at full council meeting)

Showfields Promo

I doubt very much whether ‘we’ shall ever get the project shelved or stopped, but there are many questions that still hang over this large development – Schools/Dentists/Surgery & Road safety to name a few.

Lastly on the subject for now – what ever happened to this ‘Country Park’ which was promised.
We had 2 Supermarkets planned at one time along with 2 Country Parks – None of which have happened or been delivered.

Short Eared Owl @ The Showfields site.

Parking Machine & High Tech Whittlesea Station!!!!

At a meeting this evening (Planning) I spoke with a Whittlesey/FDC Councillor, who assured me that ‘Parking Charges’ at the Station will not happen….. his words not mine.
So why have Greater Anglia (I presume) installed what looks like a second hand machine, protected by a bollard – No display illuminated as yet….again we all await in anticipation…..

Electronic Ticketing, Contactless Payment,
Info-active Electronic Display – Whittlesea Station is moving into the 21st Century.
Never mind the rubbish tip parking area, the very expensive LED lighting which is not very effective and of course – Very few trains.
But coming is the (be careful Roy) ‘Master Plan’ some of which has been coming for many years – Just like the Kings Dyke Crossing……

First Parking Machine Arrives in Whittlesey

It has been reported that a NCP Machine has arrived at Whittlesea Railway Station.
No one was advised and No consultation has taken place.

It is understood that GA (Greater Anglia) has, following pressure from FDC, suspended implementing any car parking charge scheme at Whittlesea.
No news as to how long this suspension will last before the matter is considered again.

Watch this space……
