Untaxed – Un-MOT’d Vehicles – Still There…

Two vehicles ‘abandoned’ in Whittlesey appear to be so difficult for the authorities to remove, having been reported to the DVLA and FDC on more than one occasion – they remain in situ.
No Road Tax & No MOT
Normally these issues are dealt with in a timely way – not on this occasion.

Todays Consultation on Future Transport Plans

I was extremely pleased that over 75% of those attending (and there were a few) found out about this meeting/consultation via this/my web-blog…..

I am also pleased to say, Cllr’s Dorling, Wicks, Bristow and Davies were there between 3pm and 5pm, the Library staff attempted to close the library at 5pm, even though the event was advertised to run until 8pm…..after some confusion the Library staff decided on advice to remain open and would be sending someone from Wisbech to stay until 8pm – again miscommunication.
There were consultants from the Combined Authority running the event…..although Whittlesey/Fenland only features in a somewhat minor part of the overall scheme.

I spoke at length with the lead consultant #Andrew# about the many challenges Whittlesey is and has been experiencing for decades.

Bridge/Railway/Railway Station/A605/Infrastructure/Bus/Smart Transport/Tourism –
is what I both questioned and made the consultants aware of…..What did YOUR councillor ask!!!!!…. if they of course attended.

Good to see ex candidate John Reading at the meet-up – shows a great interest.

Notice Church Street Closure

Oh Dear, Oh Dear, Dear – Not Looking Good Whittlesey..!!!!

The unhealthiest places to live in Cambridgeshire have been revealed.

Read the whole article Cambs Live News

The ‘report’ states that Whittlesey is a VILLAGE – so if the authors can’t get that right it makes one wonder how accurate the rest of it is…

Both the healthiest and unhealthiest places to live in Cambridgeshire have been revealed.
The data shows every location in the county and rates it using various statistics such as the air quality, number of fast food places, number of GPs and number of pubs for example.
However the data doesn’t reflect the healthiness of the people living in each area.
Many of Cambridgeshire’s villages were ranked as ‘very unhealthy’ because they have a high quantity of pubs and fast food restaurants, but lack services such as GPs and dentists nearby.

Some of the county’s larger towns scored better, some did not however.
Believe it – Wisbech has better parts than Whittlesey – Too many Pubs…should have been here when we had 52

What each colour means:-
Blue – Places which are coloured blue are considered to be the ‘most healthy’
Red – Red areas are the areas which the data considers to the ‘least healthy’
Yellow – And areas which are yellow, rank somewhere in between.

Whittlesey
Whittlesey, a village on the outskirts of Peterborough was not ranked as one of Cambridgeshire’s least healthy areas.

The entire village was in the worst performing percentile.
According to the CDRC data it scored badly for not having many health services or things to do entertainment wise.
Air quality was also in the worst percentile. It did get points back for not having too many off-licences, but scored badly for the number of betting shops, pubs and fast food places.

Beware of What’s Happening in Wisbech…

Police are urging members of the public to take precautions after 14 burglaries have taken place in Wisbech over the last two months.
Intruders have forced rear doors and windows or smashed windows and ransacked the properties, stealing jewellery, laptops, iPhones, bank cards and cash.Detective Sergeant Shishminder Thind said: “Burglary is a priority for the force and we are using all tactics available to us to catch those responsible for these offences.
“In some instances offenders have forced entry but we have also seen a number of offences where entry has been made through unlocked patio doors and windows. I urge all residents to take precautions where they can and check their home security, especially when out of the house.” Residents are urged to:

  • Always keep doors and windows closed and locked or in a ventilated but locked position, even when they are inside the house. Always check and lock doors with a key – never assume that just pushing up an internal handle will lock the door.
  • Remove keys from window and door locks, but keep them in a familiar and safe place where all members of the family know where to find them in the event of an emergency.
  • Never leave items such as keys, bags, presents and money on show through a window.
  • Consider the position of key racks or shelves next to a door and ensure that they cannot be reached through the letter box.
  • Use timer switches to turn on lights and radios when you are going to be away from your house at dusk.
  • Consider the use of lights at the front and rear of your property that are activated when someone approaches.
  • Consider the use of bolts and padlocks on side gates. Place the bolts at the top, middle and bottom of the gate, as just a top bolt might be easy to reach and open.
  • A visible intruder alarm box can prove to be one of the biggest deterrents to an opportunist burglar, so consider installing a DIY or supplier installed system.

If anyone has any information on any of the burglaries you should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
or https://www.whittleseynhw.org.uk/

Kind Regards,

WTC Meeting – Wednesday 10th July Report Part III – Corrected

Disclaimer: These observations are not the ‘official’ minutes of the meeting, these are supplied by Whittlesey Town Council, normally (1) month following the meeting and can be viewed on their website.

Other Items discussed :-

1/ The ‘new’ Town Council Offices…. a discussion and vote took place on the name of the ‘new’ building – which is to be called ‘Peel House’ – I did not vote as I and most people know, locally it will be called either – The Old Police Station or Whittlesey Town Council Offices…..The building is on time for completion 20th August, hand-over scheduled for 29th August.
A public viewing day (10am – 12am) 28th September and the official opening on 29th September.

2/ There was a lengthy discussion about ‘Plastic and single use bottles being used at Council and it’s premises – After last months Cambs Times letter by Dave Lewis questioning our Council about Water & Bottles, I was disappointed that ‘only’ 5 or the 13 Councillors present (including myself) brought with them their own re-usable bottles, one Councillor informs me he doesn’t drink water – that still leaves 7 who appear not to be bothered.

3/ Parking & EV facilities at the ‘New’ Offices – well there is to be NO disabled parking facility, even though the Police Station had one, the property working group deemed it not required (legally this is correct) – however I have asked them to reconsider their decision on a number of points.

Correction from Cllr David Mason – reference Parking/EV Point.

It is extremely unlikely that our new tenants will be in possession of motor vehicles.
Similarly, the proposed electrical vehicle charging point issue is being blown out of proportion in that it is of a minor priority. The intention is not to provide any Councillor with a personal service but to extend this service to anybody again who attends the offices on legitimate business and may wish to charge their vehicle up whilst they are conducting that business.
I would therefore wish to correct Cllr Gerstner’s comments on his blog today that electric vehicle charging points are not being considered. This is totally incorrect as will be witnessed on the WTC website, in the Whittlesey Festival Programme, the official minutes of last night’s meeting and more importantly in the agreed specification for the premises.
The parking bollards that were mentioned last evening will be situated in such positions as to prevent unauthorised parking and can be removed to allow authorised access which may or may not allow that person to charge up their vehicle.

4/ Next year’s LHI (Local Highways Improvements) were again discussed and it was proposed and accepted by a vote that a ‘Zebra Crossing’ on Station Road near the Manor Leisure entrance be applied for and that ‘Double Yellow Lines’ in the vicinity of Church Street & Park Lane be applied for.

5/ The was an update from Cllr Bristow regarding Whittlesea Railway Station – nothing mentioned about the recently added ‘Parking Machine’

6/ Cllr Boden brought update on Road repairs…

WTC Meeting – Wednesday 10th July Report Part II

Disclaimer: These observations are not the ‘official’ minutes of the meeting, these are supplied by Whittlesey Town Council, normally (1) month following the meeting and can be viewed on their website.

This month’s WTC meeting started at 7:30pm and finished at 10:35 ^^ 3+ hours of at times arduous debate.

After Cllr Laws presentation, there was another presentation by Mr Bernard Gray-Esson, on the events planned for the 75th anniversary of VJ day in 2020.
There will be various events taking place and Mr Gray-Esson was seeking support for the events.
The first will be a service of remembrance on the 08th Maya 2020 at St Mary’s Church in Whittlesey.

Next was The Public Forum, there were 3 speakers.

Both SR & LD spoke about the Kings Dyke Crossing.

1/ The present Kings Dyke Project started in 2013 and communication to the public by Cambs County Council has been near none existent.
2/ The original costing of £13:1 Million appears to have been vastly under estimated – The cost of the land purchase is only a relatively small amount in the overall cost escalation.
3/ No one appears to be responsible or accountable for the delays and costs.
4/ Whittlesey Town Council should ask or demand the chief executive or the leader of Cambs CC to come and account for the project to a open public event or the Town Council in the very near future.
5/ Can Mayor Palmer again give an undertaking that the scheme will definitely go ahead in light of the latest cost increases.
Standing orders were suspended and Cllr Chris Boden attempted to answer some of these concerns, what he did say was that Metro Mayor Palmer and the Combined Authority are in charge of the project and have been for some time. The contract is ‘still’ being sorted and negotiated and he hoped that this would be concluded in days, not months!
He stated that Mayor Palmer was committed to delivering the Bridge, and there were 3 options on the table.
1/ Go ahead with the plan and costs acceptable.
2/ Go elsewhere with the plan and look for a different builder/developer.
3/ A No go option.

County Councillor David Connor gave an update of the local LHI applications (Local Highways Improvement) namely work at Pondersbridge for Road Safety Improvements.
The projects needs in the region of £32,000 of which £15,000 has been raised, The PCC – has committed another £10-£10K – which still makes a shortfall. A robust debate took place as WTC have already made their allocated share towards the project and the consensus being that Ramsey Town Council should make a reasonable contribution which up until now has not happened.

Mr Robert Windle gave an update on The Whittlesey Sports Association along with the recent ‘It’s a Knockout’ event at the Field of Dreams recently.

Please see below the new contact and groups belonging to Whittlesey Sports Association.
