Looks Like a Sensible Candidate to me…..

Being ‘Independent’ as I am – I do not normally endorse any candidates.
However after the ‘serious’ demise of the previous Police & Crime Commissioner ‘Jason Ablewhite’ who on several occasions I felt ‘spoken down’ too when asking questions to him.
It appears that the Conservative hustings on Friday has produced a very experien
ced candidate within the criminal justice system and ex Policeman in Cambs Mr Darryl Preston.
I give credit to the present temporary PCC Cllr Ray Bisby who has been a long time supporter of Neighbourhood Watch in Cambridgeshire and is very engaging with me.

The once ‘favourite’ Ex MP Stuart Jackson, I am pleased was not selected – he is just too controversial and at times toxic in his ‘In your face attitude’

We shall wait and see which other political candidates emerge.
The Liberal Democrate – did not contact me prior to the General election after I tried to contact him – sorry if you can’t be bothered, then I’ll give no credit.

07:18am Friday – North Bank Flood Warning No Longer In Effect

This is a message from the Environment Agency.

Flood Warning no longer in force: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.
The situation is improving and no further flooding is expected in this area.

Flood Warnings and Alerts may still be in force for surrounding areas.
We are no longer concerned about periods of tide lock for today, Friday 28th March and are therefore removing the Flood Warning.  The Local Authority will be able to open the road.  River levels remain high and we will continue to monitor the situation.

Update on Road Closures North Bank & B1040

My thanks to Cllr Dee Laws who delivered this report to the last WTC meeting.

As promised – B1040 & North Bank report delivered to Members at Full Council on Wednesday 12th February.
Firstly, I appreciate residents frustrations when B1040 Whittlesey Wash & North Bank Peterborough roads are closured during flooding events and with the Environment Agency, CCC Highways & PCC Highways are looking at improving the situation for both of these closures.

For the North Bank & B1040 closure CCC & PCC Highways Authorities investigating the cost of installing permanent electronic automated signs at various locations to advise of the closure. Currently these costs to be sent through from the Highways Authorities supply chain.

Then for both of the closures the Highways Authorities are looking to install additional flap signs to advise of the closures and this will be for both roads.

For North Bank Road – PCC are looking to install more sensors.

Joint discussions (The Environment Agency, PCC Highways & CCC Highways)  are ongoing how to minimise the period of times of one or both road closures enabling the notice to be lifted between high tides, discharge of water out of the washes, taking in to account sitting water on the roads and the volume being sent down stream to be accommodated in Whittlesey Washes.

During the latest closure of the B1040 the padlocks on the flood gates were vandalised and this then creates an issue for other residents as there could be water across the road that they may not be expecting.

I noted on Facebook a posting saying the next time B1040 floodgates are closed use a disc cutter and remove the locks. The irresponsible person suggesting this course of action is encouraging criminal damage, placing drivers using B1040 and/or North Bank highways when a road closure notice has been issued facing prosecution, if vehicles are damaged by debris or flood water owners of vehicles are not insured, also placing life and the emergency services at risk.

RG Notes: – I am informed that both Cambs CC & Peterborough CC are notified of Flood Risks/Warnings at exactly the same time as myself other Councillors and those signed up to receive warnings.
It takes time for The Highways Department to act on a Road either closing or re-opening, depending on several factors, for example looking at the above picture, The EA could state that there is no longer a Flood Warning, but Highways need to clear the road(s) make sure it is safe and carry out any repairs that may be needed – this is why ‘people’ see the road signage as being closed when there is no longer a Flood Warning in effect – ‘people’ have to be patient – the authorities are very well aware of the inconvienience of the road being closed.
I and thousands of other residents are hoping for much a much better accurate flow of information – It has been promised.

More Confused Signage

I really does take some doing!!! from a correspondent…
I could add its takes some incompetence to deliver like below.

You will be aware of the road alterations being carried out at the Ponders Bridge turn up near Park Farm. The road closure also includes closing off the cycle track at that junction. This cycle track is part of the Green-Wheel, which goes under the A605 road at the Ponders Bridge junction area and continues right around Peterborough. I decided to have a look at the diversion that has been made for cyclist. When I arrived at the tunnel under the A605 I found a barrier closing the track with a map showing the diversion. Unfortunately the map, supplied by Highways, was fixed to the barrier upside down which made trying to identify the diversion route almost impossible to follow. I informed Sustrans who are going to contact Peterborough Highways, I don’t hold out for much hope. I’ll attach a photo if I can of the upside down map which cannot be read!!!

These People Have NO Shame – It Cost Us Money

These ‘lowlife’ who are regularly fly-tipping, costs us the rate payer a good deal of our money, clearing up their rubbish.

Here is the latest – in one of their favourite spots outside of Eastrea.
Our local Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinator reports these and it is collected by FDC’s Rapid Response team pretty quickly… Thanks to both.

Belated News from Cllr Chris Harper (Peterborough)

I’m very disappointed to have to advise residents that we have all been let down by Skanska on this one despite the promises of more resources in order to get Whittlesey Road resurfaced today.

Apparently their supplier has been unable to supply the asphalt materials required to complete the job and we now have to endure yet another road closure on Monday 24th February from 10am to 3pm.

The closure on Monday will be from Whittlesey Road roundabout to Sydney Road.

On Monday, the businesses around the Central Square area will have unhindered access available to their parking areas.

This supplier failure excuse has been used before and is wearing very thin prompting me to probe if checks were even done to ensure the materials delivery was confirmed before closing the road today?

Please take the necessary diversions and allow more time on Monday next week.

Please share widely.

Conservative Party to choose Candidate for PCC

The final  meeting for the selection of the Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for Cambridgeshire is this –
Friday (28th February 2020) at:
Sir Harry Smith Community College.

The meeting will start at 7pm, registration will be from 6.30pm.

There is no need to preregister, so even if you find yourself unexpectedly able to join us you will be very welcome.

If you have been a member of the Conservative Party for 3 months you are elegible to vote!

This meeting is NOT open to the public and I have confirmed this…
However see a related article:-
At the last elections 2016 less than 20% of the electorate bothered to vote….

The Conservatives should be more transparent about candidate selections

Chris Howell, a Conservative activist in Cambridge, says:
“The party’s current system of selecting candidates for important and high profile elected positions is unfit for purpose.

“I don’t understand why the party thinks it is sensible to try keeping candidates names secret prior to a selection meeting – we saw in the last parliament how important is is for members to know what candidates really stand for, which requires more scrutiny than is possible in one carefully curated selection meeting.
“In the age of social media, candidates names may leak out, and their entire backgrounds will be carefully scrutinised – surely it would be better for this to happen in a controlled way before the selection.

“Members should know how candidates portray themselves in public, how they communicate their messages publicly and how they respond to criticism.”

CCG & Dr Gary Howsan on BBC Radio Cambs this morning.

Following on from my post of the 22nd Feb ‘The BIG Conversation’  re survey reults from Cambs Clinical Commisssioning Group……  Click Here or See Post 22nd

This morning on BBC Radio Cambs©™ Ex Whittlesey GP Gary Howsan and CE Jan Thomas from the CCG spoke with Chris Mann on a variety of subjects raised during the survey.
Funding is always the biggest issues and demand for services.
As I have reported before all area’s around the country have issues in filling placements especially GP’s.
There was advice on Corina Virus – basically follow Public Health for England’s advice.
At the time of the program there were no confirmed cases of Corona Virus in Cambs
– but everyone I dare say is following developments.

Dr Howsan stated the importance of if anyone had any symptoms to phone 101 for advice and NOT go to their GP/Walk-In-Centre or A&E….
