Busy Day!

Keeping an eye on the election results, including Peterborough? – they are our neighbours! I note that ex leader Marco Cereste came 3rd in Hampton Vale and is re-elected….?
No elections for Councils here is Whittlesey/Fenland other than Police & Crime Commissioner.
This morning I did a Public relations exercise promoting the Patients Participation Group for New Queens Street Surgery.

NQS 03 NQS 02 NQS 01
On the whole ‘I’ am very pleased with the service I receive at NQS – Yes we would all like more timely appointments – the Surgery Management are well aware of these challenges.
There will be an inspection (CQC) of the Surgery in the near future and the PPG have been invited to play an active role. In the next week or so we will be in the surgery to encourage patients to fill in questionnaires.

Then went into town and must have met up with over 20 people who wanted a ‘chat’ nice day – but not a lot of people using the Market (very quiet).

Then went and did some basic ‘sound and noise’ checks along Peterborough Road – there are concerns of the level of traffic noise being generated. I will be doing a much more in depth survey over the next few weeks to gather more information.

Funthams-Cycle Route 160506Finally did some therapeutic Litter Picking along the Millennium Cycle Route  – out at McCains…. Look what has been Fly-Tipped – It is becoming a ‘regular’ place to off load junk.

Local Fundraising for A Little Boy – From James Atkins

Noah FundI am hosting a fund raising race night at Childers on the 3rd June to help purchase a special bed for a special little boy whose mother lives in Chesterfield but father and family live here in Wsey. He can not have his little lad stay with him until he has one of these beds so hope me sharing this link and asking for sponsors of the races at £25 or sponsors of horses that you can name at only £5 is acceptable?
If you are able to attend the event that will be great and hopefully a fun night for all, we already have Childers and Easy Move kindly sponsoring so require 6 more sponsors as there will be 8 races, meaning also 64 horses to be named and sponsored, please click the link to donate and please be sure to name your race sponsorship as this will appear in the programmes and also to name your horse! Many thanks your anticipated support is much appreciated from myself and the family we are helping

Apathy at Elections…..

You can view the video (1 hour) that was taken at the Cambs Times© organised Hustings last week in Wisbech by clicking – Here

I can understand to a certain degree the ‘apathy’ at elections. Tomorrow ‘we’ in Whittlesey get the opportunity to vote and elect a ‘new’ Police & Crime Commissioner.
At the previous election less than 20% turned out to vote.
‘People/Public’ are quick to complain and of course if asked ‘did you’ vote – they ALL did!
The PCC’s role is mainly to ‘hold’ the Chief Constable to account, the PCC sets the budget and the local tax we pay.
In fairness – I had the opportunity to meet Sir Graham Bright on many occasions and ask questions, I also attend meetings where his deputy or Press Officer attend.
He has tried to employ a ‘Liaison Assistant’ although none seemed to last very long.
Tomorrow if you have not done so by post – is YOUR opportunity to vote for a candidate.
After reading all (4) candidates promo material…..they are ALL making lots of promises!
This important position has unfortunately become ‘Politically biased’ – it should never have been like this – but there we are…..politicians !

Tesco Housing Development?

I do not ‘normally’ do ‘rumours/hearsay’ but this is slightly different.
After ‘nearly’ everyone in the whole of Whittlesey – against Tesco planning to build on at least 3 sites, blaming them/developers for delaying the Sainsburys application, which then was part of the cause for them (Sainsbury) to pull out.
Now all Supermarkets are reviewing their business models – most sit of vast land banks.
Did I hear that ‘maybe’ Tesco/developer’ may now look for building houses on their Cemetery Road site. This again ‘could’ be controversial, in access and other issues.
We will wait and see if this ‘hear-say’ is correct – and by the way it was told to me by someone who comes from outside of Whittlesey!

My usual disclaimer – I have owned Tesco shares since 1999 and they are worth – less today than when I bought them.
(Financial advisers please take note when changing out of your school shorts into long trousers!)

Online Extortion

Visit Whittlesey NHW Website at http://www.whittleseynhw.org.uk/

Action Fraud-01Within the past 24 hours a number of businesses throughout the UK have received extortion demands from a group calling themselves ‘Lizard Squad’.

Method of Attack: The group have sent emails demanding payment of 5 Bitcoins, to be paid by a certain time and date. The email states that this demand will increase by 5 Bitcoins for each day that it goes unpaid.   If their demand is not met, they have threatened to launch a Denial of Service attack against the businesses’ websites and networks, taking them offline until payment is made.      The demand states that once their actions have started, they cannot be undone.

What to do if you’ve received  one of these demands:

  • Report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or by using the online reporting tool
  • Do not pay the demand
  • Retain the original emails (with headers)
  • Maintain a timeline of the attack, recording all times, type and content of the contact

If you are experiencing a DDoS right now you should:

  • Report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 immediately.
  • Call your Internet Service Provider (ISP) (or hosting provider if you do not host your own Web server), tell them you are under attack and ask for help.
  • Keep a timeline of events and save server logs, web logs, email logs, any packet capture, network graphs, reports etc.

Get Safe Online top tips for protecting your business from a DDoS:

  • Consider the likelihood and risks to your organisation of a DDoS attack, and put appropriate threat reduction/mitigation measures in place.
  • If you consider that protection is necessary, speak to a DDoS prevention specialist.
  • Whether you are at risk of a DDoS attack or not, you should have the hosting facilities in place to handle large, unexpected volumes of website hits.

Mama Tree Guyhirn – Repeat Article

Mama Tree Guyhirn-02Did an article about this Chinese Restaurant a couple of months ago, pity people not reading this site! and still asking questions?

We were there this Sunday ( 01st) and have been several times since it re-opened. Yes it is owned by Mr Wah – who has owned and run several Chinese Restaurants in Peterborough and Thorney Toll (Thorney Toll Closed).
They are at present still undergoing some renovations, however the inside of the building is 95% finished.

The All you can eat Buffet is only available on a Sunday.
It is becoming very popular and it is advised to book if you want a table on a Sunday.

We are more than happy with the choice/variety/price of the Buffet.

50th Anniversary 01st May 1966 – 2016

Roy 1st in Wsea Swimming Poool 01-05-1966The photo was taken on the 01st of May 1966 – It said on the back – Roy 1st in Whittlesey Swimming Pool.
The photo was in the Whittlesey Reporter and Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
Now to be honest – I can not remember ‘if’ I was 1st or 2nd! – I do remember queuing up at around 6am on Sunday 1st May 1966.
I had already purchased a ‘season pass’ which cost 2 Pounds 10 Shillings (£2:50) –
Remember when the pool opened it was an ‘Open Air’ Pool.

The previous day Civil dignitary The Reverent Quinion had the ‘Official honour’ of being able to swim in the new pool.

160501-12AToday Sunday 01st May 2016 – I was very ‘honoured’ by the Staff (Louise Slack) of the New Vision Fitness Centre (Called today).
To be allowed to re-enact – some 50 years to the day, of being 1st in Whittlesey Swimming Pool.
The cost has moved with the times!!!
The Pool is covered and has a training pool.

I am so pleased to be here again after 50 Years.

A Nice few days away – Norfolk

Walsingham 01We like Norfolk, not too far to go and plenty to see and do. Only had a short sharp Hail Storm last Tuesday. Our regular visit to Walsingham always proves surreal.
I like the latest poster from Blakeney Council encouraging people with dogs to ‘Poop and Scoop…!
Our stay at the ‘Old Forge’ was simple and clean. The restaurateur ‘Colin’ provided some excellent seafood dishes.
