Bricklayers Planning Consent

This application (Now approved) again was controversial as many neighbouring properties objected to the development.
Whilst I sympathise with these neighbours, no one has come up with a ‘constructive’ argument for an alternative….The ‘Pub’ as it stood is just not viable, unless ‘someone’ is prepared to throw a ‘lot’ of money at it – with little guaranteed return.
Be practical….
Now of course there is always a ‘question’ – !!!

Will the developers deliver! or will they sit on the site as a ‘land-bank’ which has and is happening on other sites in our area.

We wait and see…. and Yes Whittlesey Councillors made the correct decision in supporting the application.
For those who were against it – please give me/us a good alternative.
See the plans there are parking spaces.

HQ 02 HOA

There are at least 3 other Public Houses for sale in Whittlesey, (2) of which would again be prime building sites.

Will the ‘Hero of Aliwal’ be sold (It is going cheap – why!)

Cold Callers & More Fraud Update

It has been reported to Whittlesey Police of some concerns over ‘Cold Callers’ it is not a big problem at present – Just be very aware.

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) and Action Fraud have noticed a rise in the reporting of victims being recruited via Facebook to sell items for suspects on eBay – often stating that it is a quick way of making money. The items are said to be bankrupt stock, purchased via auctions, and need to be sold on quickly. The majority of the items reported have been Apple Mac Book Pro/Electrical Items. The victim places the items on eBay and once the items are sold, the victim will get paid and transfer the funds to the suspect/recruiter. Once the suspect/recruiter gets the funds, the purchasers are claiming that they have received empty cereal boxes or often no goods at all, leaving the victim being reported as the actual suspect, and leaving them out of pocket as their account will be debited.
Protect yourself:

  • Consider conducting research on other information provided by the seller, for example: a mobile phone number or email address could alert you to negative information associated with the number/email address online.
  • Be very cautious of unsolicited emails or approaches over social media promising opportunities to make easy money.
  • When accepting offers, verify the company/entity details provided to you and check whether they have been registered in the UK.
  • If you think the deal or offer is too good to be true then it probably is!

If you, or anyone you know, have been affected by this fraud or any other scam, report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.

Planning – Today

This afternoon (27th) Fenland District Council will determine the planning application for the ‘Bricklayers Arms’ site. I covered this last week (scroll down).
It would appear that there are ‘more’ objections than ‘for’ the development – that’s democracy. We wait to see what happens – unfortunately I can not attend.
Tonight is Whittlesey Town Council Planning meeting – Agenda below…

Nostalgia – 1973

The Taj 1973-2AHere I am in 1973 staying at the very regal Taj Mahal Hotel™ (Bombay) along with Royal Navy man Paul Rogers-Gray.
Our ‘Epic’ journey to Calcutta, to join a ship picking up aid for Vietnam.
Found Paul RG at Heathrow on a cold November day. We were bound for Calcutta India by Air India. (Fly Air India and get there Faster was their slogan).
6 Hours on the runway, waiting to take off as there was an Air Traffic Controllers strike in France.
No Duty Free and only a sandwich in those days.

Taking off, we had to stop in Dubai to refuel, on landing heavily the plane burst a tyre and this again delayed us by several hours.
taj-mahalArriving at Bombay (Now Mumbai) by some 12 hours late, we had missed our connecting flight. Air India put us up in the Grand Taj Mahal™ 5 star hotel. 3 days 2 nights and looking at what it cost is probably all relative – then around £20 per night B&B today £200+ upwards.
After our very nice stay, we were off again, via somewhere else I can not remember, eventually arriving at Calcutta nearly 6 days after leaving the UK.
Remember Air India slogan ‘Fly Air India and get there Faster’!
Luckily for Paul RG and myself the ship was still there – (Delayed by several weeks).
The Taj is very famous in many ways, being a 5 star colonial hotel, it has hosted our own Royalty and that of many other countries, been subject to a terrorist attack in 2008 and had a Television series recently on UK TV.
An epic journey, was just one of many I encountered – how about when it took me 8 days in Panama on another occasion NOT to find my ship, another story at some time in the future.

I travelled in excess of 1,000,000 nautical miles travelling to over 100 countries in my vocation at sea.
As of today I have been to 111 countries.

It has been brought to my attention that 3 more people locally have been caught out with scams occurring via Internet/e-mail. Quite often people are ashamed to admit to falling for these scams and do not report it to the Police.
