Ongoing forever Issues of BAD Parking & High Causeway

Octogenarian Mr Luke Dowsing had a very close escape (I mean close) with the Post Office Van entering High Causeway at around 12:00 – I accept the PO needs to empty Post Boxes at stated times.
Then several other vehicles including usual White Van Man….up and down whilst I was there. Maybe it is time for me to do a more in depth survey…!!!
There has been one accident involving a young person and I am sorry to say it is only a matter of time before someone will be seriously injured.
I am aware the WTC and FDC are ‘looking’ into how to address this area – Maybe the solution is to do away completely with our one and only pedestrian street (Causeway).

Then we have the lazy so-and-so who was NOT disabled -did not display any disability card and was just interested in going to the cash machine at the Nationwide – not content with that then cleared of to the Betting Shop.
Of course this is happening all the time – maybe it is time ‘Whittlesey’ employed a Full time Traffic Warden….On a Bonus Basis160606-01A

Patients Participation Group – NQS

This week the PPG at New Queen Street Surgery are promoting the Groups awareness to patients. This morning Sue Osborne and myself had 2 good hours of engagement with patients and carers. We did not take up peoples valuable time for too long.
Most were very aware of the Group – and the very good PPG Noticeboard.
If you would like to find out more you can go to The NQS website and click on the link.

Flag Pole is in place – Well Done

Flag Pole 02 Fantastic – The British Legion have worked very hard for over 6 months to get this project in place, with all the ‘planning’ and ‘logistical’ challenges completed.
Chairman Ken Mayor today testing out the ‘New’ Flag Pole this morning.
I understand there will be a dedication of the ‘New’ Flag Pole this Thursday 09th June at 14:00 (2pm)

It looks good to me and does the War Memorial, Veterans and Whittlesey proud – Well Done

Weekender Updates…

My Rubbish Today 160605Been out and about, had 3 nice hours Litter Picking yesterday along Peterborough Road and all around the Town Centre/Bower/Manor Field my usual route. 1 Big Bag of Rubbish. Yes there was a Swimming Gala and the organisers did well parking the 170 or so cars in a good way.
Then went to Lattersey nature Reserve where the Friends of the Reserve asked my about using a ‘Radar Key’ (Disabled Key) on a lock which has been installed on one of the gates – all works well, but at the moment do not see the point of the lock on the gate – maybe this is the first phase of things in the future.

Today had another 2 hours out and about met up with the Community Payback Team, who were Painting/Treating all the Picnic Benches in the Manor Field. I’ve know Mick Barry the Supervisor for many years – they also have gone through many changes that the Government have imposed… and to say they are ‘struggling’ is an understatement.
Another good bag of Rubbish.

Thank You – Good Team Work

Station Road Fix 01 Pity the ‘Social Networkers’ can not’ get together for something positive just for a change.
My earlier post this week which concerned the elderly gentleman who came heavily off his mobility scooter Station Road/Scaldgate (Post on Tuesday 31st)

On reporting it with photo’s to Whittlesey Town Council, and the Street Scene Officer Sally Mitchell. St Judes -Father Slack was informed of Station Road Fix 02the issue and has very quickly addressed the problem. In fact the bushes/hedging were not encroaching that far onto the pathway and I believe the gentleman has poor eyesight and was perhaps slightly dis-orientated with the heavy rain. Anyway a very good engagement and result – If people only asked or reported issues/problems in the right direction.
Yes if no action is coming in a timely way – I agree then further lobbying/publicity may be required – and that’s the way I work…..
Any problems or issues in Whittlesey or Villages you can contact YOUR Councillor or the Town Council Offices and speak with the Clerk.

Some Councillors are working harder than others?

Sometimes, like in many instances, Councillors do a lot behind the scenes which the public do not see or hear about. However – since Whittlesey Town Council (WTC) now has its own dedicated website, I would have thought there would have been more updates as to what YOUR Councillor has and is doing….I see from the website that several wards have had a newsletter/e-news inserted. Some wards have not – namely Lattersey Ward and The Village Wards – why not surely a quarterly/6 monthly or even a yearly update is not to much to ask.
Here at this website – there has been very frequent news/updates and information almost on a daily basis – covering not only my own area but the whole of Whittlesey.

I accept that ‘some’ Councillors do use social media – most do not.
Are Lattersey (2 Councillors) and The Villages (3 Councillors) only going to get ‘some’ news when it comes to election time?
I am NOT an elected Councillor….

Is Big Brother about to get Bigger!!!!!

NHW Logo 4AThere is not a day goes by – without ‘someone’ causing an issue.
Today (I’ll keep it short for now) I/we have been informed that Cambs CC and Balfour Beatty are to impose charges of between £25:00 & £50:00 for Neighbourhood Watch to display their signage on ‘their’ lamp posts.
I can fully understand there being concerns about hanging things off lamp posts, weight, wind factors and all the other scientific reasoning.
‘They’ have stated that the plastic NHW signs do not present any problem of this kind.
There is no way a small dedicated voluntary group (The largest volunteer group in the UK), here in Whittlesey/Villages and throughout Cambridgeshire could sustain this proposal – and would/will disband and disappear.
How has this come about – I don’t know yet, was there any consultation (Councils love this) – Not as far as I am aware.
Am I on the case – You bet I am…. this is tantamount to Big Brother Bullying and I don’t like it one bit.
I have asked for ALL our Councillors to be advised of the e-mail trail I received earlier this afternoon. Maybe I will get some help and support.

Peterborough Main Post Office – Moving

Peterborough PO Move 01AAlthough there is a consultation process going on (Who, if anyone ever takes much notice) – regarding the proposed move of Peterborough’s Main Post Office on Church Street.
The powers that be – want it to go within WH Smiths store on Bridge Street.
Okay, maybe not many people use this Post Office, but certain things like International Driving Permits can not be done online or here in Whittlesey.
There is good disabled parking on Church Street close by the Post Office.
On their consultation document (Sorry about the picture quality) they state the nearest car parking is at PCC Haven Car Park with some limited parking at Wentworth Street.

The consultation ends 06th July.
It said that the ‘New’ facility will be run by WH Smith.
I understand that the move ‘could’ take place by 23rd September 2016

I vividly remember when Whittlesey Post Office moved from Market Square to what was Readwell News – I went to all 3 consultations, at the (1st) 12 people turned up, at the (2nd) 3 people turned up and guess what at the (3rd) Only ME – well blow fancy that – There is nothing new in my Community Activist campaigns – where was the rest of those who were and are still complaining…..!!!!! –

Update on Horsey Toll – Anaerobic Digester

Further to my article of the 23rd May – Here is an update received today 01st June.

horseytollwasteplant

1  Jun 2016 — 721 signatures were submitted to Planning Control at Peterborough City Council on the 20th May 2016.
Residents have continued to discover and sign this petition since then, raising the total signees earlier today to 757.
The 757 signees and ALL comments to date have been forwarded and accepted by Planning Control. The final total will be noted again, just before the planning committee, but any further comments made from today (1st June 2016) via this petition will be disallowed.
Congratulations to you all, because even if only a third of you have written directly to planningcontrol@peterborough.gov.uk with your comments, there will already be more opinions from the residents than were previously submitted in the last application withdrawn in January.
Thank you for caring enough to consider this proposal and for choosing to support this campaign!
We will continue to keep you informed. THANK YOU!!!

(Note: Received from the campaign group) – As previously stated there are Pro’s and Con’s regarding these plants – the big impact for us Whittlesey residents is the potential traffic issues and access this plant may cause. – (RG)

The Grass has been cut….Ashline Grove

The contractors arrived this morning, heavy rain and made the best that they could do under the circumstances – extremely long grass and extremely wet.
Took just over 4 minutes with a bit of strimming….
Well at least it looks better than it did before – the contractors told me their work load was such that it maybe 3 weeks before they come back again –
I appreciate that there are ‘severe’ financial challenges at FDC and priorities as to where the money goes…..but in my very extensive travels I can honestly say that we – Whittlesey are in a 2nd division – I know FDC Officers will disagree…Ashline Grass Cutting 160531-02B  Ashline Grass Cutting 160531-04B
