Drivers Targeted With Fake Fines…Beware….

What you need to know

Action Fraud have received an increase in reports and intelligence where elderly victims are being targeted by individuals purporting to be police officers or traffic wardens. The victims are being approached whilst parked in a car park and are told by the suspect that they have parked illegally or broken a speed limit and a photo has been taken of their car for ‘evidence’.

Victims are advised that they will face a substantial penalty fine unless they pay a smaller upfront fee immediately. Victims, who opt for paying the smaller penalty, will be directed to a parking meter and asked to enter their card and PIN. These parking meters have been tampered with by the suspect in order to retain the card.

Once the victim inserts their card and are asked for their PIN, the victims are shoulder surfed for their PIN by the suspect. Once victims input their PIN, the card is retained by the machine and victims are told by the suspect to seek help from the company who operates the parking meter or their bank.

What you need to do

  • If you are suspicious about the authenticity of the fine, do not pay it until you have verified it with your local council.
  • Always shield your PIN from view when using an ATM machine, and never share your PIN with anyone.
  • If your bank card is retained by an ATM machine, contact your bank immediately to inform them.

Environmental Concerns – Gaining Momentum

Many will remember my frequent posts concerning environmental concerns and issues over the past 10+ years, my continuing lobbying of having a deposit system in place (like many other counties) for Glass/Cans/ Plastic and Polystyrene to name a few.

I note that a few of my fellow current Councillors, one being Cllr Eamonn Dorling are also leading on several fronts with some excellent idea’s on challenging current thinking.
We do not necessarily need to be ‘Tree Huggers’ (nothing wrong with that either), but ‘WE’ are all guilty of the current state of our environment – just take a look in the average fridge and see how much ‘plastic’ there is….
The conscientious has brought some very positive letters going to the Cambs Times© recently.
I and some of my friends have made a very positive impact in collecting other peoples rubbish from our streets and entrances to our towns and villages – clearing tons and tons over the past 10+ years – a small but significant contribution.

The more debate and the more lobbying – the better for all of us.

The best remark I’ve seen is ‘Why should Whittlesey follow – It should be leading…..
Not only on this issue but many others….

Today I met some different Hero’s

Today I had a chance meeting with Sir Lachlan Maclean of Duart Castle, we had a very good chat about his 800 year old
‘Clan Maclean’ and the £1 million+ so far in the restoration of Duart Castle, Sir Lachlan is the 28th Chief of the Maclean Clan, I even managed to extract his age!
I am staying with Andrew Kain, ex paratrooper of over 25 years and retired from the SAS,
Andrew has many awards for bravery, but is very humble in talking about his past life, he once rescued a young boy from a very dangerous river.
Both these men I met today have served their country and I was very proud to have spoken at length with both of them.

I was invited to stay and listen to The Isle of Mull & Iona Choir at Duart….

Criticism – No One Accountable KD Crossing

I make no apology – am I the only local Councillor to keep making any noise about the Kings Dyke Crossing travesty (a term I used on many occasions in respect of the Supermarket debacle (ignominious failure; a fiasco) and the Showfields (Planning Issues).
In todays press Cambs Times® reports on at least one County Councillor Herbert to ask some questions of Mayor Palmer – who as I have quoted before has only been on the scene recently – pouring a considerable amount of Tax Payers money (I am a tax payer) on what is becoming almost a comedy of errors.
I am not one who normally likes ‘Blame Culture’ – I have witnessed and been subjected myself to allegations that have not been true, there is a difference in holding those responsible to account, whether that be Councillors of any rank, Management of the scheme, or Council officials who have ‘attempted’ to deliver.

Of course one of my favourite quotes – What Whittlesey wants – its doesn’t get. What Whittlesey doesn’t want it normally gets.

The Official Statement FDCs Leader Cllr Boden – KD Crossing

The more members of the public that write/e-mail Mayor James Palmer the better it will be, he will be able to gauge the level of disappointment we all have concerning the ‘Kings Dyke Crossing’ travesty.

Station Road Closure

Not in my ward, but important to everyone who may use this road….especially to the Industrial area of Whittlesey.
If you’re local you may know easier ways to find an alternative route..
It is a very long detour….
