Its A Knockout – Fun For All

Field of Dreams the home of Whittlesey Junior Football Club was the venue for Its A Knockout where five local teams faced the giants and penguins and the slippy slopes of the inflatables. Watched by a family crowd of close to 500 the hosts came out on top pipping Whittlesey Boxing Club by a narrow five points. Organised by Whittlesey Sports Association the main event was supported by a Sports Taster Day with over 14 local sports  clubs offering free sessions for all who attended. Lead organiser Robert Windle was delighted with the success of the day and thanked the many financial supporters especially Healthy Fenland for a grant to enable free play  and EPD Insulation Group for sponsoring the main event.  For more details and videos of the day  go to Facebook Whittlesey Sports Association and for photographs go to www.rwt-photography.co.uk  …..Robert ©RWT Photography.

KD Crossing/Bridge – Time to Stop Asking Questions!!!!!

I and most ordinary people in and around Whittlesey are all feeling the same – about the on-going ‘latest’ news on the stagnentation (characterized by lack of development, advancement or progressive movement) of the Kings Dyke Crossing, I have posted well over 12 updates at various stages over the last 6 years.
I believed the project would go ahead 3 years ago and said – It has got a far as it ever has and believe it will happen – I maybe wrong….
It is so easy to point fingers at ‘someone/somebody’ to blame – but who if anyone is taking any form of responsibility or accountability – No One ….appears to be the answer.
It is all very well MP Steve Barclay asking that ‘questions’ need to be asked – NO Mr Barclay – we have had enough ‘questions’ it is time to ask for ANSWERS to what has gone wrong.
Being fair as I am – The Metro Mayor Mr James Palmer has only been on the scene in the last 2 years, It is a County Council project and both Whittlesey representatives have been Councillors for the more recent none developments.
So what we do have is some £7 Million++ being spent on what appears now to be a redundant parcel of near worthless land in its current state.
£7 Million of tax payers money.
I and many are asking of Mayor Palmer and MP Barclay – get a grip of the situation, hold those responsible to account and make the project come to life.
The other sting being ‘Kier’™ the builder who might have seen the project though, being in serious financial problems – I asked this question over 12 months ago, and was told that the County Council has ‘robust’ systems in place to mitigate any issues with the contractor(s)….and now we hear that Kier may not even be interested….

We are not looking for questions – We are looking for Answers – and in a timely fashion – not next year…..
Of course I could be cynical – and expect some who may have the answers to have taken early retirement – but I’ll not go up that route….that would be really cynical
Answers please…..

NHW Week

Monday marks the start of Neighbourhood Watch Week 2019 where we’ll be celebrating the amazing work our volunteers do in their communities. We’ll be looking at areas where you expect Neighbourhood Watch to operate in and around (burglary) as well as some more unexpected ones (knife violence and social isolation).

Our message this year is that when it comes to Neighbourhood Watch, there is #MoreThanYouExpect.

To kick start the week we have today launched Neighbourhood Watch Inspiration, a collection of the most innovative work being undertaken by our volunteers across England and Wales.

The database contains examples of how Neighbourhood Watch groups are changing their communities for the better. In each case, volunteers explain how they developed their project, the impact it had on their community and how they overcame any challenges.

Neighbourhood Watch Inspiration allows users to contact the author of each example with the hope of generating fruitful conversations between members.

Get involved!
Stay connected with Neighbourhood Watch on  Whittlesey NHW Website

We in Whittlesey ran our campaign of Scam Awareness a few weeks ago which was fairly successful, and if there is further interest we shall run something similar again.

Growing Fenland – Report & Consultation

I and several other Councillors and Public have had NO input in this document.
Some WTC/FDC Councillors were involved as too the Whittlesey Business Forum representative.

I have read the interim report ……. Click Here

The report is poor in quality and depth, evidence and errors.
The key concerns being health, self harming, single parents – these should be prioritised, not the ‘enhancements’ of the Market Place…or making Market Street a pedestrian zone.
It does not mention peoples perception on being safe, law & order, or drug concerns amongst our young people.

History – we used to a one way system through Market Street !!!! –  The authorities can not police or enforce parking concerns at present let alone in the future.
The monitoring or air quality is not as good as it could be.

The writers/consultants are swaying the questions – to the answers they are looking for.

It is an opportunity for All & Everyone to have an input – but please read the associated document first – takes around 20 minutes…..https://www.fenland.gov.uk/media/15675/Growing-Fenland—Whittlesey-Interim-Report/pdf/Whittlesey_Interim_Report_-_FINAL_VERSION.pdf

As usual it is NOT a wish list.

I have heard of some who have read the report – not being bothered to answer the questionnaire.

Survey Click Here

What it also misses is All the current ‘challenges’ our town has at present and a prime example being the Kings Dyke Crossing – No one is taking responsibility for this travesty.
