Be My Valentine Scam – Please Be Aware….
| Valentine’s Day may be a time for romance for some however we are warning the public of romance fraud. In Cambridgeshire last year (2019) there were 86 reports of romance fraud, with total losses to victims of £558,026.Romance fraud is when fraudsters target victims, often through online dating sites or social media, to form a relationship. They will use the site to gain their victim’s trust and ask them for money or enough personal information to steal their identity. The vast majority of people using dating sites are sincere and honest in the information they provide and in their reasons for joining, however, there are exceptions, and you need to be aware of how to keep yourself, your bank account and savings protected while meeting people online. They will be joined by three Cambridgeshire victims of romance fraud who will share their stories with the public, as well as the CEO of Get Safe Online, Tony Neate. Nationally, last year more than £68million was lost to romance fraud in the UK. Romance fraud not only has the potential for victims to lose vast amounts of money, but the emotional impact can be even more difficult to come to terms with. We know this is a massively under-reported crime for a number of reasons, which is why we are trying to raise awareness of the issue. Kind regards, |

Even the Fraud and Cyber Crime Advisor gets fraudulent text messages.
I keep calling the mobile number and it keeps going into a Giff Gaff voicemail, how rude.
I have also sent apple.com the screenshot.
A couple of reminders, the link in the text shows https. This does not mean it is genuine, it just means the link between the criminal webpage and me is secure.
apple.com.cloud-apps.services/ (RUBBISH)
I would expect to see apple.com/ and NOT another . after the com

Yet More Scams Coming…
Watch out for anyone coming to your door selling Google Smart thermostats or other Google products. It is a fraud. They will tell you that they are required to go in to your home to confirm your system and they have the right. Close the door and call the police. They are wearing clothes with Google on it and have paperwork. Look legit but definitely not. They have threatened homeowners and tried to force their way in to homes across the area. These guys were in South Windsor the afternoon of Dec 19. Confirmed with Google that they NEVER sell door to door Do NOT let them in and sign nothing. Warn your friends and family especially seniors!

Find out more about bladder problems
You are invited to learn more about bladder weakness and the treatment options available to you at the next Members’ Meeting on Wednesday 26 February at Peterborough City Hospital.
Physiotherapists Liezl Rossouw and Katie Mitchell, who launched the Trust’s Don’t Be Shy, Stay Dry campaign, will be speaking to attendees about the different types of urinary incontinence and why it’s important to seek help.
Liezl Rossouw, Women’s and Men’s Health Team Lead Physiotherapist, said: “Bladder problems are quite common, affecting more than 200 million people worldwide. Often people are too embarrassed to seek help and just put up with their symptoms, but there are things that we can do to prevent or improve urinary incontinence, such as pelvic floor exercises and other lifestyle changes.
“This is a great opportunity for people to come along and hear what they can do to manage their condition. The team will be available to take questions on the night.”
The meeting takes place from 6pm to 7.30pm in the Board Room at Peterborough City Hospital on Wednesday 26 February 2020, and is open to members of the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust as well as members of the public to attend. Refreshments will be provided and parking for the meeting will be free.
To confirm your attendance, please contact The Communications Team on 01733 678024 or email nwangliaft.communications@nhs.net.

Scam – Scam & More Scams – Beware…
I’ve recently been contacted by a resident to warn of a scam phone call purporting to be from BT and threatening that their phone line will be cut off. The resident knew this was a scam because they are not a customer of BT but it is quite likely that many residents in No Cold Calling and Good Neighbours schemes are long-standing customers of BT who would be very worried about the prospect of their line being disconnected.
Please spread the word about this hoax. I believe it’s another one asking the residents to press a number to continue/to avoid being cut off, similar to the previous HMRC and Mastercard scams. Please let people know not to feel threatened, not to press any number as instructed but to simply put the phone down. And encourage them to tell others too. Everyone can play a part in keeping others safe.
I would also like to share a link to Action Fraud’s latest alert about a fake PayPal scam which would be worth sharing with people you know to be using the internet. Essentially the scam is targeted at people selling items online by fraudsters who send a fake PayPal e-mail suggesting payment has been made for an item. The fraudsters then follow this up with an e-mail requesting tracking information – the intention being that the victim will feel rushed into dispatching the goods before they have had a chance to verify the payment. Between October and December 2019 more than £1.1million losses were reported to Action Fraud related to fake PayPal e-mails.
Please warn as many people as possible who you think might use a computer.
With thanks for your ongoing support.
