Criminals are so clever (with their friends) they can easily ‘spoof’ phone numbers, mainly 0800 numbers which are not easily recognised by their phones.
An example being 0800 158 3209 which is a ‘real’ Barclays Premier Number, but again can be spoofed. The advice is if you’re not sure, put the phone down – and call the Bank/Company on a different number – on the back of your Bank Card, also if the call came in on your landline number – advice is use a mobile to call the originator back if you ‘really’ want to talk to them.
Thanks to our reader ED for the following SPAM purported coming from Virgin – NOT…
You should know who and when you are paying bills and for how much.
If you can not remember, it is advisable to call the number on your bill.
Below is a give-away – they should at least know your name, check carefully the link, these can look very much like the real thing.
Be careful.
