Many thanks to Cllr Dee Laws, who gave a brief explanation as too how the ‘Flood Signage’ works. It is a complex and complicated arrangement.
Still many of us have been asking for ‘YEARS’ – for electronic signage, alas the usual answer has been NO MONEY.
I am just a frustrated as many not knowing whether or not the North Bank is open or closed at times.

This ‘scam is nothing to do with ‘Whittlesey Town Council’ –

Action Fraud has been receiving reports of an advanced fee fraud whereby suspects phone a member of the public and claim to be calling on behalf of the UK (or British) Government Grant Department. They go on to state that the individual has won a Good Citizen Award – of typically £8,000 – and that the grant can be released for a fee (of around £210). Fortunately, very few members of the public have lost any money as a result of this scam but have reported to Action Fraud in order to help build a picture of this fraud and protect others from falling victim to it. Protect yourself:
If you, or anyone you know, have been affected by this fraud or any other scam, report it to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.
Many thanks to ‘Les’
VERY COSTLY NEW AREA CODE: READ AND PASS ALONG 0809 Area Code.
We actually received a call last week from the 0809 area code. The woman said ‘Hey, this is Karen. Sorry I missed you- get back to us quickly. I have something important to tell you.’ Then she repeated a phone number beginning with 0809. We did not respond, this week, we received the following e-mail: Do Not DIAL AREA CODE 0809,0284, and 0876 from the UK .. This one is being distributed all over the UK …. This is pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get you to call. Be sure you read this and pass it on. They get you to call by telling you that it is information about a family member who has been ill or to tell you someone has been arrested, died, or to let you know you have won a wonderful prize, etc.. In each case, you are told to call the 0809 number right away. Since there are so many new area codes these days, people unknowingly return these calls. If you call from the UK you will apparently be charged a minimum of £1500 per-minute, and you’ll also get a long recorded message. The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges. WHY IT WORKS: The 0809 area code is located in the Dominican Republic …. The charges afterwards can become a real nightmare. That’s because you did actually DID make the call. If you complain, both your local phone company and your long distance carrier will not want to get involved and will most likely tell you that they are simply providing the billing for the foreign company. You’ll end up dealing with a foreign company that argues they have done nothing wrong. Please forward this entire message to your friends, family and colleagues to help them become aware of this scam.
This ‘scam’ has been around for a long while, but it is still doing the rounds, see post from correspondent ‘Les’ on the ‘Issues and Concerns Page’

Planning-Agenda-for-24th-February-2016
I am currently at the ‘Colonial Ipoh Swimming Club, I first came here 38 years ago…..It is one of my top ten places to ‘chill out’ during the daytime I’ve the whole place to myself – peace and quiet – tranquil with ‘butler service’ I’ve been dozens of times as we have family here. The complex (Sports, Casino, Swimming and Restaurants) was built in 1928 and has many of its original features. A good friend and senior committee member Mr Lee Cam Boom, informs me they are spending well over £1:5 Million on upgrades in the near future.
Unfortunately leaving tomorrow.
Progress is still on-going with the fixing and renovations, Whittlesey will ‘soon’ have a fantastic facility ‘fit-for-purpose’ The Friends of the Library (I being an original ‘friend’) are doing a Stirling job.
Extract from minutes of meeting held on 26th January
Public Consultation Document
The documents spells out the fact the future of the entire library service is dire due to cuts that have to be made. Pauline Finney explained the document caused great concern as there are going to be redundancies within the entire service. The jobs of long term and dedicated staff, who have been great assets to the service, are in danger. Public concern should be the cut in opening hours. At this present time Whittlesey Library will not be affected but further cuts in the library service are going to continue.
Like many other ‘voluntary groups’ – they are being asked to do more…..
Meeting held on the 17th February at Grosvenor House (WTC)
Amongst many items of interest, these two I found especially noteworthy.
(1) ‘The Chairman commented on the large amounts of Government funding being made available for Wisbech and that Whittlesey was lagging way behind. The object of the Forum needed to be not only the promotion of business but to be a key player in developing the community of Whittlesey as a whole.’
(2) Members were concerned at the progress of the proposed bridge over the Kings Dyke railway crossing to which Cllrs Mayor and Mason explained that after public consultation a method had been agreed, funding was in place but a lengthy planning process still needs to be undertaken before any work can commence. Information had been given by Cambridgeshire County Council that they anticipated a start date early in 2017 with completion approximately a year later.
It is Very Good News to my ears….that from the above ‘funding was in place’ –
So after a ‘good’ flogging on StreetLife© (Don’t ‘we’ just love them), ‘they’ again have only got part of the story.
Lets go back to the (2) previous Cycle events which passed by our town…I was there!!!!
The facts are that both events were on the whole very well and professionally put together, they have to be. All safety measures are in place and all agencies concerned were present.
At the first event, many people turned out to see the start of the race, then all but a ‘few’ left, as there was nothing else to do?
At the second event, WTC along with ‘some’ businesses decided to have it more ‘family friendly’, this included things for children too do and some stalls selling goods.
However – again, by and large after the ‘riders’ passed through the town, most people cleared off.
It was very disappointing that the few local businesses that made a brave attempt, found it was not that successful, however the feedback was they had ‘networked’ a great deal – this did not turn into £££££.
The (Third) event was cancelled due to various reasons, one being financial.
As far as ‘complainers’ (I read SL©) about rubbish – on both occasions Whittlesea Street Pride did a fantastic job of clearing up
most of the rubbish, FACT – SP had a team at Oil Mills Road, where the riders took drink and refreshment, the SP team were there most of the day and cleared up as needed and at the end of the event as well.
The SP Group were/are all volunteers and received no payment what-so-ever, as they/I do at many events if they are asked by the organisers.
Everyone on this occasion can register if they are in favour or not on the Whittlesey Town Council Website. http://www.whittleseytc.com/
Now…. will the council reveal the numbers in favour and those not in favour – I do not know, will any weight be given to the views of those who registered – I do not know.
There is also the ‘question’ of ‘cost’, considering how you ‘rate’ the ‘success’ of the previous two events, we/I ask is there any costs and if so how much – we the rate payer may well be asked to ‘contribute’ to the event…(this has happened before)
Finally for the time being, like ALL outside events (Strawbear© included) the amount of public participation depends on the good old British Weather……come rain or shine.
Read ALL of the story on the Cambs Times©, Street Lifers getting all worked up again. The campaign to stop this happening has for a time been successful. Will the electorate remember who was in favour of Parking Charges when the next election comes about, I very much doubt it. Please read the whole story before turning into a euphoric frenzy over this issue.
