The ‘Italian Job’ appears to still be at work….

Thanks to RB

Hi Roy, this man is up to his old tricks again.  It happened to a Whittlesey person on Saturday 27/02/2016. It is ten years that the con man with the same M.O. is known to have been operating but as far as I am aware, has never been caught.

An excerpt from the Cambs Times© 2006, confirms it is probably the same man.

File Image Leather jacketThe victim of a trading scam has warned the public to be on their guard after he was duped by an Italian conman into coughing up cash for sub-standard jackets. Peter Wright, of Wisbech, said: “I was leaving the Elm Road Co-op store last Tuesday lunchtime when I was approached by an Italian man. “He told me he had attended an exhibition in Wisbech and had been given loads of leather and suede Armani Collezioni jackets to take back to his boss in Italy. “He put seven coats in a bag, then spun me a pathetic story about how he was only giving them to me so he didn’t have to pay tax and said he needed money for his hired car. “He ended up getting me to go to a cash machine to buy jackets I didn’t really want and could not afford and then drove off in his left-hand drive Focus with foreign plates to get his fake plane back to Italy. “When Mr Wright returned home he found the jackets he had been given had been switched for inferior versions. He said: “I realise how badly I was ripped off and I hope by going public on this the number of victims will be reduced. “A spokesman for the county council’s trading standards department said”
“If you think it is too good to be true, then it usually is and you are being coned. “Never buy stuff from people at the side of the road, no matter how plausible they may seem, as you are invariably putting cash into the pockets of organised crime gangs.

If you are approached in our area, try and get the vehicle registration – it may help.
If you have access to Google™ Translate – find the appropriate words in his language to
Clear Off!!!!

If you Google™ Leather Jacket Scams – dozens of stories appear.

Important information about your Medical Records

Extract from the Practice Managers report to the New Queen Street Surgery PPG
(Patients Participation Group) held on 22nd February

Patient Online, giving detailed record access to patients, has to be “switched on” on 1 April.  Every practice has to provide this facility.  All records have to be checked before access is given and a request is needed from each patient.  The patient’s signature and identification has to be checked and the practice has to ensure that all is in order before allowing access.

R.G.
What this allows is for every patient, who wishes, after being checked (vulnerable, patients who may self harm and certain others maybe excluded).
This is a major step forward into freedom of accessing your medical records.
I am unaware of the Jenner Health Centre dates for their patients but it would appear 1st April all should be switched on.

If you wish more information, please to contact your own surgery.

Sorry – Set back on Library opening up fully

Hello everyone,

I wish I could impart some good news but I can’t.
There has been a development at Whittlesey which means the library may not be re-opening until Easter or even later.
The development also means we can’t use the ground floor of the library for tonight’s meeting and as we are storing so much stuff upstairs we don’t have any room to host the meeting there either.
Therefore can we please cancel the meeting tonight and re arrange when we know what’s happening. One of us will update you all as soon as possible.

Alison Sutton
Area Library Manager, Wisbech & Whittlesey.

RG – Not quite sure what is happening but will update next week.

Another day in Paradise….

KL 03 The Majestic KL

Yesterday checking the ‘Majestic’ in  Kuala Lumpur with Connie and her Sisters, complete with ‘men’ in Plus 4’s and ‘Pith Helmets’, we had a very relaxing afternoon. Booked 10 days for later in the year (40th Wedding Anniversary) – 5* ambiance – why not.

SanSan 160226-01 SanSan 160226-02 SanSan 160226-03The ‘sun’ is really strong and another one of my favourite swimming pools – All by myself for most of the day.

Whittlesey Library

Opening up with full facilities is planned for Friday March 11th. The leaking roof, could be seen as a blessing, as Cambs CC had little choice but to spend a vast amount on repairs, then of course there was a leak and the ceiling and other bits needed to be done.
So after a long long while, we will finally and hopefully have a facility fit for purpose and up-to-date….see you there?

Help! – Catch this FlyTipper Please

On several occasions along Benwick Road Whittlesey and Whype Road Eastrea, someone is making regular deposits of old plaster and building materials.
Thanks to RB who reports it every time to FDC’s Rapid Response Team and the Street Scene Officer Sally Mitchell. It is always cleared away fairly quickly, but we ask if you are along these roads to keep an ‘eye’ open for this culprit.

Lets see if we can identify this misfit.

Neighbourhood Watch

NHW Logo 4AOur thanks to Ken Creed who attended a meeting yesterday of all the Fenland Groups at March Police Station. Inspector Will Davies giving updates on the Service agreements.
Ken informs me, that the Whittlesey NHW Group is one of the best in Fenland.
The group is well supported and organised.
I stress we are NOT Crime Free, but when looking at statistics and feedback from other areas….we are certainly better off than our neighbouring towns.

The next Neighbourhood Watch meeting will be on Tuesday 15th March at 7pm
At Grosvenor House (Side entrance) Whittlesey Town Council Offices.

Please come along, don’t just be a good neighbour be a better neighbour.
Being a member is FREE, just a little bit of time now and then….

Lots more information on our dedicated website (Best NHW in Cambridgeshire).

Room with a view…

Room with a view - SanSan 160226-01Room with a view… on the 18th floor of my nieces condo/apartment, looking from Puchong into Kuala Lumpur.
A 50 metre swimming pool – all to myself during the daytime – bliss and stress free!
Todays temperature is +34c
Looking from the building is a typical ‘urban’ Kampung’ (Malay village)

What short memories some have?

Ken Creed 11-2012This picture tells the issue…..November 2012 the car in the centre was stranded and the occupants required ‘rescuing’, there were also a couple of other incidents.
This can put our Police, Ambulance and Fire Services under strain, where they may be needed elsewhere.

(Picture Ken Creed – click to enlarge)

There are so many ‘expert drivers’ in Whittlesey, I wonder have they all passed their Advanced Motorist Test (IAM) and if they have they certainly have NOT learned how to take risks unnecessarily, and never mine what it costs.
Irrespective of the ‘Very Poor’ information/signage along the B1040 (See previous posts),
the barriers have been put there for a reason – safety of lives…..
Information from the EA is much better and more accessible than in the past.

Who/What is still around from 1984?

Whittlesey & Districy Chamber of Trade & Commerce 1984-5A Mortons Fork 1984A

We now have a rejuvenated ‘Whittlesey Business Forum, but the town had a much larger ‘Chamber of Trade & Commerce’ in 1984 (Click on pictures to enlarge)
Thanks to the Whittlesey Society ‘A Guide and Directory to Whittlesey 1984-85.

Surprising – there are ‘still’ a number of these businesses in our town.
