Boots Pharmacy To Make Delivery Charges….

A great number of my elderly neighbours have their medications delivered (free of charges) by Boots in Whittlesey.
See the very short notification given – This decision was a National one taken by Boots.
Remember when Cadbury and other ‘British’ Instituations have been taken over by American Companies….Nothing was going to change – Oh Yes they did and pretty pronto.
I daresay there are costs involved – No consultation, nothing heard from Doctors Surgery.

There is a choice of course and I have spoken with the Independent Whittlesey Pharmacy on Market Street and they state that no plans to charge for delivery either Whittlesey/Area & Stanground. I will do another article on how to change your pharmacy later.
This will also be raised at The PPG meeting on Monday evening (I doubt if anything can be done)

Beware of People Knocking On Your Door….Please Report It….

I can not stress enough ….It is no good reporting on Social Media….The Police do not (normally) monitor Whittlesey Social Media Sites….so are unaware of many issues that are reported…..

Received earlier this evening…

In light on the recent burglaries in Whittlesey I just thought I’d share what me & my partner have found very strange…

We’ve just had a man knock at our door (Burdett Grove) to which I answered & he starts by telling me he lives at a certain house which I know isn’t true because we know who lives at that number… he the proceeds to tell me that he needs to get a parcel delivered to our house (a voice recorder) because his life is in danger – this whole time he is trying to look round me into the house to which I pulled the door closed behind me. I said no I don’t feel comfortable with that to which he wouldn’t take my no as an answer. I told him I’d get my partner and he can discuss with him to which my partner said no as well. He took this no and then headed off out of the street.
He was very shifty the whole time but was more interested in trying to see into the house. Don’t get me wrong this could be perfectly innocent but it made my very uncomfortable and nervous!
Please be vigilant people because I know if my life was in danger I’d be trying every house to get help or be calling the police but he soon scarpered!

Heart Health – Event Peterborough

We would like to invite you to the Trust’s first ever Peterborough Beats Together event on Saturday 28 September, from 9am to 12noon at Ferry Meadows Country Meadows (Coney Meadow).

The event, organised by the Cardiology Department, will have lots of information about how to keep your heart healthy with tips on healthy eating and exercise, cooking demonstrations and the opportunity for visitors to have their blood pressure and heart rate checked.
Julie Holroyd, Cardiology Nurse Consultant at Peterborough City Hospital, said: “90% of premature deaths from heart disease in Peterborough and the surrounding areas are caused by preventable risk factors. We want to change this by helping people understand how they can improve their lifestyle and reduce their chances of developing cardiac disease.
“Heart disease can affect anyone, whether you are young or old, so we are encouraging people of all ages, including families, to come along and find out how they can take control of their heart health.”
There will be something for everyone and children can enjoy taking part in a treasure hunt or have a go at the climbing wall.

As part of the event, the team are attempting an official Guinness World Record that will see 500+ people come together to form the image of a human beating heart by holding red card above their heads and moving in and out. The image will then be captured from above by a drone.
The event is completely free, however the team will be raising money throughout the event for new cardiac imaging equipment for local patients. Please also note that there is a charge to park at Ferry Meadows Country Park.

Time Someone (Manor Field Football) Cleaned Up…

Generally the organisers at Football events on the Manor Field clear up – sometimes they don’t.
I regularly clear the area of their discarded litter/beer cans/rubbish….

On a slightly separate topic, the ‘Bog’ that exists on the Manor is still there after several hot days weather, this picture was taken before yesterdays downpour….

Beware (Again) Someone is Snooping Around.

Last month 3 properties were burgled due to windows being left open during the hot weather, this week another 2 properties have had the same…..
I know it is getting cooler but leaving windows/doors open is asking for these ‘snoopers’

If you suspect anyone, please report – quickest way is online (they are all looked at – you may not get a response)

The Bower Path

Here we have probably one of the most ‘walked’ area’s in our town. Cyclists, Dog Walkers and just normal folk getting some gentle exercise.
Views across the Manor Field, St Mary’ Church and Boats going about navigating
‘The Bower’ and ‘Ashline Lock’ along with fishermen.

It is probably one of the most peaceful places to wander in our town.
So why isn’t the Pathway/Towpath being looked after.
For many years various Councillors have done their best to address some of the concerns.

The Dog Walkers Group, have done a fantastic job of keeping and educating others of keeping the area reasonably free of ‘Dog Poo’.

The state of the path and the ‘wild’ nettles + overgroath of weeds can make it difficult to negotiate the pathway.
The ‘issue’ is that there are various different organisations responsible for this few hundred metres of path…..The Mid-Level Commissioners, Cambridgeshire CC, Fenland District Council and even possibly the Environment Agency…..
None will take on maintainance of the bulk of the area.
I accept that the Ashline Lock, where Boat users navigate the Ashline Lock, the Mooring area and Briggate East/West are maintained….the issues and concerns being the rest of the Towpath.

I/we are now grateful for a community spirited member of the public who today single handed chopped and cut back 3-4 foot tall weeds and stinger nettles so that folk including ladies with prams could get by without being scratched and stung.

I have made enquiries – and like the rest of the Councillors got the same answer –
NO MONEYthe answer I’ve been getting for many years on just getting simple things done.
I am on the case – I can not promise it will be fixed – but I will not let it go away.
Never mind (two) country parks – which have yet to materialise – here we have something just as important – it just needs some TLC and NOT a lot of money.

Thanks to RE who today cut back a big swathe of stinger nettles, weeds and rubbish.

The community payback team used to look after it when asked, but yet again since the semi-privatisation of the Probation Service,
it is in essence being run for a ‘profit’ – The Government have stated that ‘some’ of the Probabtion Service will be returned to the Home Office…..

Again their answer is Money…. – We just keep on paying!!!!

In late spring the wild foliage can look quite stunning – it is later on it needs maintaining.
