Cambs NHW X Meeting

A very good attendance last evening at The Cambridgeshire Exectutive Group of NHW,
I have been part of this committee for over 8 years.

Whittlesey NHW Secretary Robin Sutton, was re-elected as the Chairman of the Area Group.
One item did take my ear and I had to make comment/question, was when the Police Representative (Vic) told us that under PM Johnsons 20,000 more Police Officers in the next 3 years – Cambs would be getting 62 !!!! –
There are 36 Police and Crime Commisioners in England and 4 in Wales.
The London area is treated seperatly – ~
So on my calculations 20,000/40 = 500 – So each PCC area should somewhere equal share – then take away the London allocation – well maybe 200/300 but we’re getting 62

I was quicky told that London itself was to get 2,500 – and that the number allocated was based on several factors.
So I have supported for 2 years increases in our Precept to fund more Officers in Cambs, and some of these are now just filtering through with a ‘few’ allocated to Fenland.
So are we again in Cambs being short changed – I don’t know – maybe your maths is better than mine.

An excellent presentation by Crime Stoppers.

Scam Alert – Be Aware – Amazon Prime Customers….

Roy Gerstner
Chairman
Whittlesey & District
Neighbourhood Watch

Action Fraud is warning people about a new scam that charges individuals for an Amazon Prime subscription.

The organisation has received hundreds of reports of a scam where victims receive an automated phone call claiming they’ve been charged for an Amazon Prime subscription. The phone call informs people their personal details have been fraudulently used to subscribe to Amazon Prime, however, they can cancel the transaction by pressing 1 on their phone keypad. When victims do this, they are automatically connected to criminals posing as Amazon customer service representatives, who then remotely access their computer and steal their personal and financial details.

Action Fraud Advice

  • Never install software as a result of a cold call
  • Always question uninvited approaches in case it’s a scam
  • If in doubt contact a company directly using a known email address or phone number
  • Feel confident to refuse unusual requests for personal or financial information

For more advice, visit the Cambridgeshire police website: https://www.cambs.police.uk/information-and-services/Action-fraud

Many thanks,
Corporate Communications team

Cambs Highways Open Day

I appreciate that day-time meetings/events means those who work can not attend, however only 8 people attended, including (myself) 3 Councillors.
It was very interesting and informative to ‘see it’ from the workers/management side of the many different parts to the Highways.

In quite cramped conditions within Port-a-Cabins the site in March is quite large.
One of the important aspects conveyed to me – was ‘reporting’ of issues, usual for many to complain but if the Highways are not aware of an issue – they can not address and do something about it….
Similar to many organisations, there is many ways to do so….
So my 3 hours was well spent and we covered many aspects….I did ask some very leading and difficult questions…
A typical subject Pot Holes…. don’t we all love them…..
Of course is ‘issue’ of finance and its limitations was covered.
