Flood Warning In Effect

North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

Flooding is expected – immediate action required

Heavy rain yesterday, Wednesday 27th November caused river levels to rise on the River Nene. In combination with the high tide today, Thursday, 28th November, the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

Uncertainty Over Patients Group – PPG

Disclaimer: These observations are not the ‘official’ minutes of the meeting, these are supplied by The PPG and will appear on The Lakeside/NQS website.

The New Queen Street Surgury Patients Participation Group (PPG) held their AGM last night at the NQS Surgery.
A very rubust questioning of (2) Doctors present left no doubt of the ‘unhappiness’ of the Group.
Lack of communication and inter-action for the past 12 months was the main thrust of everyone present.

Dr Dan, ‘tried’ to explain some of the very demanding ‘challenges’ the Surgery has and is facing – both with demand for services and recruiting key staff.
I was pleased to see FDC Leader & WTC Councillor Chris Boden in attendance
(first occasion) with his knowledge of sitting on many committee’s within Cambs Health Services.

The AGM proved just as challenging with current Chair Mr Bernard Grey-Esson informing he was planning to stand-down on the 31st December.
Secretary Mrs Ann Mason also standing down as Secretary.
After another well balanced discussion on the future of Whittlesey NQS PPG along with what might happen too and with the possible amalgamation with The Stanground Surgery PPG – it was decided to put everything on hold until Stanground have their next meeting on 06th December.

It would ‘appear’ there are still significant issues/challenges happening at The New Queen Street Surgery.

Manor Leisure Centre Update

Now with all the latest high-tech equipment installed last week (a year over schedule)…
I am informed everyone is very pleased.

Today the main lighting in the Swimming Pool area was being changed – this was already done in 2016 (LED) however it was the wrong specification and is now being replaced.

The ‘really’ good news is that on last Bank Holiday (The Gym & Pool Closed) –
The area
was ‘Carbon Neutral’ with as much equipment turned off as possible.
There are Solar Panels on the roof and Combined heat and power (CHP) which integrates the production of usable heat and power (electricity), in one single, highly efficient process. CHP generates electricity whilst also capturing usable heat that is produced in this process.

There is still a good deal of ‘maintenance work’ required on the fabric of the building (swimming pool) and the changing rooms are in need of some TLC….
Still there has been some good improvements so far…. Let us hope the work carries on.

New Climate Change & Environment Strategy & Action Plan

New Climate Change & Environment Strategy & Action Plan for Cambs

All local councils in the County should be receiving a letter from Cambridgeshire County Council notifying them of a forthcoming consultation on the Council’s Climate Change and Environment Strategy and Action Plan.

The Strategy outlines how the County Council will: reduce the carbon footprint of the Council and the County; help our communities adapt to the change already happening; and enhance nature and the benefits it provides. The County Council is keen to understand what local councils and their communities think of the targets and actions they have set themselves and how you can work with them to bring forward some of the changes that are needed to the way we live and work.

The full letter from Sheryl French, Project Director, Mobilising Local Energy Investment, to local councils can be found here.

The consultation will be available online from 20 December 2019 to 31 January 2020, where you will find a copy of the Strategy documents and the questionnaire, through which you can provide feedback. The consultation will be hosted on ConsultCambs website: https://consultcambs.uk.engagementhq.com/climate-strategy

Please ensure your local council considers the Strategy documents and gives a response. The more local councils give their input, the more resilient and fit for purpose the resulting strategy will be.
