The Word I used on Parking was Common Sense……

I am obliged and grateful to the lady who sent this message to PD – In my post of 08th January I asked for some common sense in what appears to be an escalating ‘war’ we and most areas are having about ‘a parking space’ – You could have read the ‘update’ on Parking I published on my WTC Council report.

Here it what I have been passed….

Last week my elderly mother parked her car opposite her friends house & in front of another friends garage whom had given her permission to park there.
They went out for a couple of hours in her friends car & she left her car legally & securely parked.
On her return she found her car had been moved and abandoned in the middle of the road !!!!
Apparently a neighbour who has difficulty getting his van off his drive had jacked up her car & moved it so he could access his drive .

I’m sorry but what on earth ?????
Am I stating the obvious when I say ‘Do not buy a van that you cannot get on your drive,

My mum was left extremely distressed by this incident, she is 77 years old & does not deserve to be bullied in this way, not to mention the fact that her car was left abandoned in the middle of the road, what if a fire engine or ambulance had needed to get through ?

Suffice to say I am absolutely furious and have contacted the police .
The reason for my post is to ask if anyone else has experienced anything like this along Falcon lane ?

Flood Warning Still In Effect Sat 11th @ 11:25am & 3:25pm

North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

Flooding is expected – immediate action required
Heavy rain over the last few days has caused river levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

Lower Nene

Flooding is possible – be prepared
Over the last few days we have seen bands of heavy rainfall across the River Nene area. This has caused levels in the River Nene to rise, which has led to flooding of low lying land and roads close to the river. Further rainfall is expected overnight tonight, Saturday 11th January. We expect the river to remain high throughout the next few days. Our forecasts indicate that flooding to properties isn’t likely. We are constantly monitoring river levels, checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens. Please avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated on Sunday 12th January or as the situation changes.

Your Digital Footprint (Mine As Well)

I use a VPN (sometimes) – look it up and see if you need one….(RG)

Good morning from the Cyber Security Advisor for Cambridgeshire Police.
If this email creates any questions or issues, or if you know of any business, charity, organisation or community group that would benefit from a talk about cyber security, then please contact me.
Get Safe Online are asking the question of those who use the internet if they know what a digital footprint is and if so, what does it look like?

https://getsafeonline.org/yourdigitalfootprint/

QUOTE
Every time you use social media, buy or sell something online, visit any kind of website, send or receive an email, find your way using a mapping app or save a photo to the cloud, you add to your digital footprint. The same goes for downloading music, making Skype calls and using a voice assistant. Every time you post a photo of your children or your friends, you add to their digital footprint too.

When an ad for something you’ve shown interest in online pops up on Facebook, it’s because of your digital footprint. When you don’t get on the shortlist for a job because of something you posted five years ago, that’s because of your digital footprint too. But there could be more serious consequences of having a digital footprint including those affecting your children.

Your digital footprint is part of your online history and can potentially be seen by other people, or tracked and held in a databases across the world many sited outside of the UK and jurisdiction. This is the case even if you are careful with your privacy settings. Here are just a few examples of what could, and does, happen as a result of your online history:

  • Companies can target you with specific marketing content on social media and other websites. You could also receive emails, letters or phone calls from these companies.
Advertisers can track your movement from site to site to gauge your areas of interest.
Entertainment providers (such as music or films) could target you with unwanted recommendations for content.
Prospective employers can look into your and family members’ background.

  • Your child’s application for schools, colleges, universities, scholarships, clubs or even sports teams could be rejected.
You, family members or friends could become the victim of fraud or identity theft.
Your children could be at risk of criminal activity threatening their online or physical safety.

  • Records of your online activity could fall into the wrong hands, including perpetrators of organised crime.
Tech companies such as browser and search engine providers can track and record what you’ve searched and viewed. This, in turn, could be shared with other parties including law enforcement agencies.
You could be refused life, medical, property or vehicle insurance based on information you have shared online.

How to minimise your digital footprint, or make sure it’s a good one.

  • Don’t overshare information about yourself, family members or friends that would be better kept private. That’s on social media, on websites and apps requesting details and in response to texts and messages.
Think before you post. Even if your social media privacy settings are set up correctly, there’s no guarantee that your posts or photos won’t be shared.
Be aware that every time you visit a website, it’s visible to tech companies like website owners, browsers and search engines.
Read terms and conditions and data privacy policies on websites and apps before providing any personal data or making transactions. What can the providers do with your data, and why would you agree to it? If you’re not comfortable with the information being requested, don’t provide it.
Check geolocation settings on mobile devices, apps and cameras. If you don’t want anybody to know where you are, or where you have been, disable them.
Never stop enjoying the many excellent benefits of using the internet, but always bear in mind what digital trail you’re leaving, who may be able to access it and how they may be able to use it.

Have YOUR Say – Police Funding

Have Your Say on Police Funding In Cambridgeshire.

As we plan our budget for policing Cambridgeshire and Peterborough for 2020/21, Acting Police and Crime Commissioner, Ray Bisby is keen to understand your views on funding our police service.

Last year you told us you wanted to see more officers out in your communities. Thanks to your support for an increase in the policing part of your council tax, we have seen police officer numbers reach record levels in Cambridgeshire. An additional 50 officers were recruited with the aim of increasing visible neighbourhood policing as well as supporting a partnership approach to crime prevention.

Cambridgeshire is a safe county but police have to spend more time tackling the growing complexity of crimes such as domestic abuse, child sexual exploitation, modern day slavery and drug dealing known as ‘county lines’.

The government previously announced funding for 20,000 new officers across the country, 62 of which will join the force over the coming year. Although the cost for these extra officers is being met by the government, the existing 1,500 officers in Cambridgeshire and the infrastructure that supports them still needs maintaining and developing, which will bring cost pressures, not least from inflation alone.

In Cambridgeshire, police funding comes from two main sources: a central government grant (just over half) and the remainder from the policing part of council tax.

Whilst the nationally funded additional officers are very welcome, there are some challenging realities that we face. Our police force remains one of the lowest funded forces in the country and with the county’s population set to grow by 20% by 2031, we need to make sure our police service meets the needs of our growing communities.

The government will announce the amount by which the policing part of council tax can be raised in due course and the Commissioner will seek to follow that guidance.

As an indication, a 2% increase on a Band D property would equate to 37p per month.

I would be grateful if you could spare a moment or two to complete the Commissioner’s short survey.

A link to the survey can be found here:
https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/WSNKQL7

The survey runs from Wednesday 8th until Monday 27th January 2020.
