Future Road Works Planned In Our Area
I try and post these works as we receive them, however ‘we’ as a Council do not normally get pre-warned of works carried out by Peterborough City Council.

Beware of Courier Scam(s)
| We are urging members of the public to be aware of instances of courier fraud targeting elderly people. Figures from the National Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) show instances of courier fraud across the country are on the rise and affecting some of the most vulnerable people in our communities.Throughout the rest of this month police forces across the country are focussing on raising awareness of the different types of courier fraud to protect those most likely to fall victim. Courier fraud is when criminals cold call a victim, typically claiming to be a police officer or bank official. Offences are often committed by organised crime groups who target the elderly and vulnerable. Examples of specific instances have been where following a phone call, the fraudsters then claim there is an issue with the victim’s bank account or request their assistance with an ongoing bank or police investigation. The ultimate aim of the call being to lure them into handing over money or their bank details. Common techniques used by the fraudsters include telling the victim to withdraw large sums of cash, purchase an expensive item, or provide their bank cards or details. In all cases, a ‘courier’ will then come and pick up the cash or items, on behalf of the police or bank. They will often come to the victim’s home address. There were 233 reports of courier fraud in the eastern region in 2019 (up until 24 December) with total losses of more than £620,000. Your bank or the police will never call you to ask you to verify your personal details or PIN by phone or offer to pick up your card by courier. Hang up if you get a call like this. Your debit or credit card is yours – don’t let a stranger take it off you. You should only ever have to hand it over at your bank. If it’s cancelled, you should destroy it yourself. If you are suspicious about a telephone conversation you should end the call and contact police via the non-emergency number, 101. Ideally use a mobile phone or a friend’s phone or wait at least five minutes before calling to ensure you aren’t reconnected to the offender. Please also remember that your bank and the police would:

Flood Warnings In Effect – Thurs 16th @ 12:32am & Wed 09:23am
B1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road to the South of the River Nene.
Flooding is expected – immediate action required.
The Whittlesey Wash flood storage reservoir is being operated to protect nearby communities from flooding. The rising levels in the Wash will result in flooding of the B1040 road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority may close the B1040 for safety reasons. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.
Flooding is expected – immediate action required.
Levels remain high on the River Nene following periods of heavy rainfall over the last few days across the catchment. During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, which will be at least for the next 24 hours, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

Severe Disruption Is Coming….
Unfortunately ‘we’ at Whittlesey Town Council and as far as I am aware FDC were not given any notice of the below.
Cllr Eamonn Dorling picked this up on ‘Social Media’ from Peterborough Cllr Chris Harper.

A605 Whittlesey Road – B1095 Milk & Water Drove Junction Improvement Scheme. Latest.
A traffic regulation order has been published regarding the impending road closures that will be necessary as the work progresses however this is only a general order so I have asked highways officers for clarity as clearly it would not be acceptable for the road to be closed from February 2020 to August 2021 as stated in the order.
The order is an open timescale to secure the roadspace, given that this project has considerable strategic importance and is being jointly funded by PCC and the Combined Authority.
An absolute deadline of March 2021 has been set for the completion of the project and the first set of works will be some exploratory investigations by Cadent Gas on their pipeline undertaken using a full closure of the (B1095) Milk and Water Drove and temporary two-way traffic signals on the (A605) Whittlesey Road.
Cadent are expecting to start works on Monday 17th February 2020 for up to four weeks. They will then leave site and the closure will be removed.
The design of the project is still being finalised and once completed, a detailed programme of works can begin.
It is expected that the main construction work will commence in Autumn this year.
When the design is completed, I will share the detail and the traffic management plan with you. (Cllr Harper)
(RG) Milk & Water Drove was closed for a number of weeks last year and this caused serious and severe distruption. The ‘perfect storm’ nearly happened – Milk & Water closed -/- King Dyke Crossing had a failure -/- North Bank was closed —— The only way out was along the B1040 to Thorney which was luckily still open.
This road & junctions has to close for the turning to be modified when turning ‘right’ from the Park Farm round-about to the Pondersbridge turning.
‘If’ the KD Bridge goes ahead -/- again there will some disruption for 12/18 months.
We await to see what the Highways and Traffic Management is going to give us.
I hope they have the manners to at least inform us – so we/I may pass it on.

Lower Nene
Flooding is possible – be prepared
Over the last few days we have seen bands of heavy rainfall across the River Nene area. This has caused levels in the River Nene to rise, which has led to flooding of low lying land and roads close to the river. No further significant rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours, however we expect the river to remain high throughout the next few days, especially during tide lock periods. Whittlesey washlands are filling slowly. Our forecasts indicate that flooding to properties isn’t likely. We are constantly monitoring river levels, checking for blockages and clearing weedscreens. Please avoid using low lying footpaths and roads near rivers, which may be flooded. This message will be updated on Monday 13th January or as the situation changes.
