We Are All In This Together – Shops & Businesses Rules

There is still a great amount of confusion of who is – and – who is not supposed to be opening. I am extremely sympathetic to ALL our local businesses, in fact I personally telephoned around 20 of them last week. They were ALL very appreciative that someone/a Councillor had bothered to call them.
Some businesses have had to adapt in order to attempt to survive these very testing times.
That said, The Government, at all levels, NHS and myself are trying to discourage ‘people’ from unneccessary trips to shop/window shop and by having too many ‘adapted’ shops opening is causing the opposite effect.

I had a conversation with someone nearby on the telephone on Monday, who informed me that he and his wife had had the Covid-19 virus, he explained the symptoms and it appeared from what he said to be correct. I asked how they managed during the 12 or so days they had it – he said that ‘THEY WENT SHOPPING’ – sorry are these people for real or am I the only one trying to get the message understood.

I did go out today in a full face mask and gloves, to deliver 4 presciptions to our folk who are not able or allowed out. I did this and nothing else???

We Are All In This Together – Another Good Deed Indeed…

Scott McKenna of Elite Supplements on Broad Street shared the following….

For the last 3 weeks I have been doing close protection for the NHS workers at Royal Papworth hospital, protecting them against the verbal, physical abuse, people trying to steal there passes, and trying to break in and steal uniforms.

As this is the leading hospital in heart and lungs they are receiving high numbers of Covid-19, working with these marvellous people for 12 hours a day for 14 days solid, I have found that these people are doing a fantastic job.

What I am doing is collecting Easter eggs for them, not expensive ones, I will be in myshop tomorrow from 11-4 – If you like to donate a egg, the door will be locked as just one in and one out, or there is an address in Cardea you can drop this off. I will be working from Thursday right through to next week and would like to give back.
I understand it isn’t local but already seen people from whittlesey go into hospital there.

Many thanks Scott

Call To Action – Support Our Calling Tree Campaign

Dear Roy,

At Neighbourhood Watch we are all too aware that supporting our neighbours and wider community who are not connected via the Internet or on social media through this pandemic is still a challenge for many. However many of these people are reachable by phone.  Why not setup a calling tree in your area? It’s a positive way to support people and stay connected, particularly with those who are not online.

Neighbourhood Watch Central Support Team have produced a Calling Tree Campaign Pack to support everyone in England and Wales to be connected and not left alone. See attached.
Here is how a calling tree works… You call 3 people. Those 3 people call 3 people each making 9. Those 9 each call 3 people reaching 27 people. Those 27 each call 3 reaching 81 people. The phone tree builds. Call 3 people today to ask how they are doing. Reduce isolation and stay connected.

As a Neighbourhood Watch coordinator we encourage you to share our campaign, please share our campaign on your own social media channels, newsletters, web pages and other resources. To share the campaign download attached Calling Tree Campaign Pack or visit our website https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/calling-tree

Many thanks for your support

New Reporting Methods For Coronavirus Breaches

We’re urging members of the public to report breaches of the Coronavirus restrictions online with a newly-created web form and information page.

The new page has been set up on the force website click here to viewwhere people will be able to look at some frequently asked questions, report individuals breaching the restrictions and find out contact details for your local council to report businesses that are ignoring the government regulations.

The force is seeking to resolve situations where people appear to be, or are, contravening the government advice on physical social distancing, and the stay at home measures, without resorting to enforcement. However, those who repeatedly break the rules, despite warnings, will face fines.

The public are urged to only report something if they feel there is a significant issue or breach which they think officers need to know about.

Officers will not be dispatched for minor infringements of the Coronavirus restrictions, but mass gatherings should be reported so they can be dealt with appropriately.

Officers will do everything possible to advise people on the guidelines and ensure as many people as possible help protect the NHS by staying at home and saving lives.

The answers to many Coronavirus queries regarding essential travel can be found at www.gov.uk/coronavirus

Thank you,

More & More Scam Opportunities – Please Be Careful

One of my elderly neighbours was scammed today – Luckily he called me by which time, the scammers had installed ‘Malware’ & a Computer Virus on his laptop.
He (the neighbour) left the laptop on my doorstep – after sanitising it look me 3 hours to eventually get everything working again.

Emails, text messages, instant messages such as the one below are a scam. Do not click on blue or any colour links within electronic messages unless you have verified who the sender is.

If in doubt, don’t click.  ——–Links are just a shortcut to a website.

Instead, you could consider logging into your account the message refers to, using your tried, tested and trusted way.

So, if the message appears to be from HMRC and you do actually have a HMRC account, then come out of your email account and visit www.gov.uk and login that way rather than clicking on a link.
If you don’t have a HMRC account then be very suspicious and ignore it.

If the message purports to be from Amazon, eBay, Netflix, DVLA, the list is endless, the same applies don’t click on the link but login to your account using a tried, tested and trusted way.
If you want information about coronavirus and COVID-19 visit www.nhs.uk or Public Health England via www.gov.uk

Please don’t go searching the internet because you may just read something untrue, or your device will get infected with malware because you visited a website controlled by a cyber criminal.

Just because a web address contains HTTPS it does not mean it is a genuine site. Criminals can use HTTPS in their web/link address.

HTTPS just means that the connection between you and the website is secure.

Ensure you are visiting a genuine website, if you have anti-virus/malware installed and updated, a Firewall installed and updated they may warn you if you are about to visit an untrusted website but what if they don’t? Be careful when clicking on the results of a search and ensure you are visiting a genuine site.
If you know the address of the website such as www.gov.uk then type it direct into the address bar at the top of your browser rather than searching for it in the search box in the middle of your screen.

Here is one way of assessing whether a website is unsafe.
Google offer a service called Google Transparency Report at www.transparencyreport.google.com/safe-browsing/search

You will then be asked to enter the suspect web address (URL) into the search box and press return. It will then make an assessment based on data it holds (and that is a lot) and give you an indication as to whether the website can be trusted or not as the case maybe.

For those of you curious enough, Google offer a lot of advice on this subject which can easily be found using the transparency report website.
To report fraud or cyber crime, and for advice on how to avoid it visit

Best wishes and I hope this email was useful.
Many thanks

We Are All In This Together – Local Schools @ Easter

Good morning,
I just wanted to let you know that our local schools are still open in the holidays for the children of critical workers and for our most vulnerable children. In the holidays, these schools are staffed by volunteers and when we start the new term, the schools will be staffed via a rota. Work has been set on line for both primary and secondary children, with paper packs being distributed for those who do not have access to a computer.

We are also providing supermarket vouchers so the children on Free School Meals can access food up to £3 per day and the College has also donated food to the local food bank.

Our most vulnerable children are receiving constant phone calls from key staff to ensure that they are okay.

I thought that you would like to know what your local schools are doing to play their part in this national crisis.

Best wishes,
Jonathan

We Are All In This Together – Thanks To Our Volunteers

Fantastic community support, I am proud and priveldged to have been Chairman of Whittlesey & District Neighbourhood Watch for 9 years.
We registered with The Fenland Hub on the first day and I am pleased to say that we (I and Connie) have fulfilled 10 requests for prescriptions and medicines during this week.
We have done some urgent shopping and picked up post and parcels.
Next week we shall take a break and 2 more NHW coordinators will take the task on.

We hope we are being sensible in exposing ourselves.

We are not alone – Deborah Slator (De-Fibs) and her group are doing even more calls.

There are the many individuals who are doing their part – and I am sure I can speak for everyone – a BIG, BIG thank you.
