Kings Dyke X – Update From CCC Cllr Connor

Further to CCC Cllr Count’s update last week…..

A message from local member Cllr David Connor:

I was pleased to read your comments following the last update so thank you and here is our next update – from the pictures you will see the construction of the road’s embankment, which is south of the railway, is progressing well. At this part of the scheme, more than 20,000m3 of material has been placed and compacted and you can see it starting to take shape.

Steve mentioned in the last update about the cabins, which will house our contractor Jones Bros, these have been delivered and installed at the main compound. They will provide office space and welfare facilities for the workforce and have been carefully designed in terms of size and numbers to maintain social distancing. The main compound will be up and running in the next couple of weeks when facilities such as electricity and water are installed.

Over the next two weeks, Jones Bros will be focussing on continuing to build the road’s embankment and excavation work will start in preparation for the underpass structure. They will also be installing track monitoring along the railway in advance of work starting on the railway bridge. This will ensure the railway track is not affected by the works in any way.

I hope everyone is keeping safe and remember the rule of six from Monday.
Regards
David

News From A Neighbour

This from Cllr Chris Harper (Park Farm Peterborough) unedited and in original format.

A605 Whittlesey Road/Milk and Water Drove Junction to be improved as £5M works set to start in the Autumn.

What could only be described as our most ambitious pledge and one that you’ll recall has always been in our newsletters and local election material, was to have the A605 Whittlesey Road/Milk and Water Drove road junction upgraded to improve this major traffic pinch point for motorists travelling into and out of our city.
I along with my ward colleagues Cllr Rush and Cllr Bisby pledged to do everything possible to deliver this much needed road improvement scheme.
We relentlessly lobbied Peterborough City Council and the Combined Authority to firstly have the junction included in Peterborough’s 5 year road improvement plan and then secure the funding to make it happen.

I am therefore delighted to be able announce that we are about to deliver on that pledge with the first stage of work scheduled to begin on the 21st September clearing the grass bank side, siting the contractors buildings and installing a temporary road. This will though mean a closure of Milk & Water Drove at the Whittlesey Road end for a period of up to 3 weeks whilst this first stage is carried out.

The main work to widen the road and alter the junction layout is scheduled to begin in October and last for up to a year.
Clear drawings and artist impressions of the new scheme have been requested along with a more detailed timeline and I’ll share those with you as soon as I receive them.

Letters should be going out shortly to residents and businesses most likely to be affected by the works.

I fully appreciate this will cause delays and inconvenience at times but it will I’m sure be worth it in the end and I thought you should hear about this really positive news as soon as possible and by giving you the heads up now, hopefully you can prepare for the road works and closures starting in just a couple of weeks time.
More as I get it.
