Kings Dyke X Update 23rd October 2020

A message from Cllr Steve Count, Leader of Cambridgeshire County Council, said:

We have a few pictures for you in this update – at the top is a drone picture which shows how well the whole scheme is progressing and you can begin to see the shape of the project.

The bottom left picture shows Jones Bros has almost completed a temporary access road. This will allow site traffic to access key locations of the site including where the underpass will be, Star Pit quarry and the railway bridge to the west of the railway.

The final picture is fencing that has been installed either side of the railway line, this is part of the preparatory work linked to the construction of the bridge, so the fencing acts as a barrier.

The earthworks taking place to the west of the railway line is due to be completed in the next week, then the attention turns to the earthworks at the east of the railway line.

We’re conscious of the weather and the time of year, so Jones Bros are using road sweepers to maintain the A605 – they help clean the road.
Please drive safely and respect the workforce, I’d like to thank you for your patience and understanding while this vital project is constructed.

Lastly from me, you may have already seen it, the autumn version of the newsletter is out – if you’d like a copy just private message us your details and we can make sure you receive one.
Keep safe and well everyone – remember we’re adhering to the local COVID alert level medium.

Good to see The Belisha Beacon Replaced Eastgate & Paint….

Skanska contractors replaced the damaged knocked down ‘Belisha Beacon’ at Eastgate last Sunday…
I was getting concerned (again) about the state of the ‘Paint’ – however todays photo (KC) shows this has also been addressed.

Who knocked it over  – don’t know…

The beacons were named after Leslie Hore-Belisha (1893–1957), the Minister of Transport who, in 1934, added beacons to pedestrian crossings.

Volunteer Police Cadets – News Story

Cadets from St Neots and their leaders joined forces with regular officers to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation in and around the Cambridgeshire area.

The operation was a huge success and a number of establishments were visited; this has raised the profile of Child Sexual Exploitation and provided education to the public.

For more information on Child Sexual Exploitation and how to recognise the signs of child exploitation, please visit:
https://www.cambs.police.uk/information-and-services/Child-protection/CSE

This was the cadets first involvement with officers since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and getting involved.  Throughout the event safety was adhered to at all times.

Cadet Leader Amanda Large said: ‘An operation like this can’t be carried out without young people and what a great way to get our Police cadets involved, especially as they are part of the policing family. The cadets were so excited to be involved, especially where they were so integral to its success.’

DS Maria Allgood said: ‘Without our cadets stepping forward as part of the community, we would be unable to run such events’

It is amazing that the Police Cadets are able to support local policing operations and have the opportunity to work alongside Officers gaining valuable experience in relation to Policing operations.

We are always looking for more volunteers to become Cadet Leaders and to support our local Cadet units.  Do you have what it takes to inspire and encourage a young generation?
The Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) is the nationally recognised police uniformed youth group throughout the UK.  The purpose of the VPC is not to recruit police officers of the future, but to encourage the spirit of adventure and good citizenship amongst its members.
We believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of his or her background. We encourage young people from all backgrounds to join, including those who may be vulnerable to crime or social exclusion.  We have a diverse group of young people aged 13 to 18 years, who have the desire to support their local communities and gain an understanding of policing.

The aims of the Voluntary Police Cadets (VPC) are to;
promote a practical understanding of policing amongst young people
encourage the spirit of adventure and good citizenship
support local policing priorities by volunteering and giving young people a chance to be heard inspire young people to participate positively in their communities.

Cadet leaders give young people a stable role model while looking after their welfare and encouraging their development and aspirations.  Whilst most of our leaders come from the policing family, we welcome adults from all walks of life and particularly encourage those without a policing background.  You will undergo vetting to the highest national standards, enabling you to work alongside young people. You will receive training to support you and to develop your own knowledge and skillset.
If you can spare just three hours (or more!) a month and wish to support your community and the young people of Cambridgeshire, please do get in touch -this could be exactly what you’re looking for!

We have Cadet Units in Ely, Cambridge, St Neots, Cambourne, Wisbech and Peterborough.
If you are interested in volunteering your time to support our cadets or for further information, please get in touch with us at Cadets@cambs.pnn.police.uk
For more information about becoming a VPC Leader please see the National VPC website: https://vpc.police.uk/

Transport for London

I don’t know many who are commuting to London these days – or going for a day out – however this is the latest from TfL.

London is categorised as High Covid alert, Tier two of the Government’s new three-tier system.

Across our network we’ve put measures in place to keep everyone safe. When travelling you must wear your face covering over your mouth and nose for your entire journey including inside stations and on platforms. Keep in mind, some customers might be wearing an exemption badge as they are not able to wear a face covering for reasons that may not always be visible. Unless you are exempt , you could be refused travel or face a £200 fine which doubles with every violation up to £6,400.

Plan your journey and find the quiet times to travel.
