Flood Warning Still In Effect….

1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road to the South of the River Nene

Flooding is expected – immediate action required

Due to the heavy rain that fell over the River Nene catchment during the Christmas period, the Whittlesey Washes flood storage reservoir is being operated to protect nearby communities from flooding. The use of the Whittlesey Washes has resulted in flooding of the B1040 road. Water levels are starting to fall in Whittlesey Washes but it is expected they will remain high for many days. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority may close the B1040 for safety reasons. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. This Flood Warning is expected to stay in force for several days until water levels recede. Please follow diversionary routes until the local authority re-open the road. We are monitoring the situation, and this message will be updated on Friday 8th January, or as the situation changes.

COVID News from The ONS

Read the roundup

Today we published figures for deaths involving COVID-19 in England and Wales. The main points include:

  • One in four deaths in the week ending 25 December involved COVID-19
  • There were 2,912 deaths involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) in England and Wales in the week ending 25 December 2020 – a decrease of 74 deaths compared with the previous week.
  • However, delays because of the Christmas Day Bank Holiday contributed to a decline in overall registrations. As a proportion of all deaths in the most recent week, COVID-19 made up 25.3% of the total, the highest since mid-May 2020.
  • Despite the impact of Christmas Day on registrations, London, the East of England and the North East of England all saw the number of COVID-19 deaths rise compared with the previous week. Wales also reported an increase.
  • Deaths from all causes remained higher than normal for this time of year, with hospitals, care homes and private homes all recording figures in excess of the five-year average.

Repeat Be Very Careful of Bogus COVID Messages

Sadly, scammers continue to take advantage of the coronavirus pandemic to commit fraud on unsuspecting victims.

We’ve had reports of fraudsters sending fake text messages, which claim you are entitled to a dose of the newly-approved vaccine.

The bogus message states that you are entitled to a vaccine and to receive more information you should click on the link.

Unfortunately, these texts are fake. Once you click on the link, you are taken to a webpage, which is branded to look like a genuine NHS page, which requests to see ‘proof of ownership of address’ in the form of your bank account, sort code and a full bank card number.

Do not give your bank or card details to make payment for a vaccine or to prove your residential address.

Coronavirus vaccines are free and the NHS will never ask for any money or your bank details.

Further information about scams is available here.
