Sundays Nostalgia – 50 Years Ago This Week…..£5 Watch

On my way taking Red Cross and other Inter-Government aid to Vietnam in 1970, we stopped in many places en-route to Siagon, 50 years ago this week we berthed in Hong Kong. Then of course a British territory, we spend 2 lovely weeks there and with a ‘bit’ of spare cash , I bought myself a ‘new’ watch.
A Seiko 5 – was the working mans ‘Rolex’ of the day.
Here is a picture of it – taken this morning – never needed a battery (self winding) and never serviced or cleaned.
Keeps very good time indeed – the best £5 I ever spent.

‘The Fens’ and of Flag Fen fame

It looks like Francis Pryor, author of the book ‘The Fens’ and of Flag Fen fame, will be launching the Celebrate the Fens this evening (Friday) as a guest on Fen Folks Friday-
a zoom get together organised by Fascinating Fens at 7.30 – 9.30pm.
I’m not sure if Francis will be giving a formal talk but he is full of interesting information on the Fens, particularly the archaeology, and always has a fascinating story to tell.

To book (free) to join this informal session, follow the links to Eventbrite
https://fascinatingfens.com/celebrate-the-fens-day/

As you may know, we will be joining in the celebrations by jointly leading a walk (with Thorney Heritage Museum) on Sunday at 2pm around the ‘island’ of Thorney.
Details are here
https://fascinatingfens.com/fen-edge-trail-thorney-island-guided-heritage-walk/

If you would like to join us and haven’t booked, please email us to book asap as there are a couple of places left. Meeting info and other info will then be sent. A geology map of the local area will be provided on the day.

Events Cancelled – WTC & Others

Due to the Governments announcement yesterday that restrictions remain in place up to 19th July (present information). Certain events and meetings will have to either be cancelled or re-scheduled.
The first of these are ‘Music In The Square’ both the June and July events.

As and when I get any further updates, I will post on here…

MVAS Data Reports – Speeding Update

There have been a number of people contact me about ‘Speeding’ in their area/street,
the ‘Data’ from the MVAS’s are very useful, however, when compared to a national (England & Wales) statistics, our figures are very comparable, except that is in a couple of cases, ie A605 Coates/Eastrea and Stonald Road in particular.
I can only ask that the more people that complain, (not on social media please) to their Councillor(s) and to the Police the better.
The campaign goes on.

Further to my Average Speed Camera Data published yesterday.
Below is the latest Data received from WTC – Motor Vehicle Activated Signs, placed around Whittlesey & Villages.
This is an edited version I made, which shows that most recent data at the top.

Note The column ‘Violations with ACPO’ would indicate a prosecution.
102 mph in a 30 mph limit – needs a holiday in Jail please.
