Your Chance To Have YOUR Say In Neighbourhood Plan

What is the Whittlesey Neighbourhood Plan?

Over the last few years Whittlesey Parish has been working on a Neighbourhood Plan – a local planning document for the future of the area that the whole community can get involved with.

What has been done so far?

We did lots of research about the Parish, including a residents survey and we ran a number of workshops and consultation events where residents helped to develop a vision for Whittlesey Parish and the future, decided what topics we needed to develop policies for and came up with ideas about what those policies should do.

What is this consultation about?

All of that work helped us to write this draft version of the Neighbourhood Plan. Now this is an opportunity for everyone to read and comment on the policies before we create a final version that will be taken to a local referendum to be voted on. This is one of the final stages of the process so is a good opportunity to share your views.

What information is being consulted on and where can I find it?

The main document is the Draft Neighbourhood Plan which contains all the draft policies.

We made our Baseline Report available which gives you an overview of the Parish and the research that has informed the policies.

We have also made our Local Greenspace Assessment available – this provides more information on Policy 5 “Local Green Space” There is an opportunity to comment on this document specifically at the end of this survey if you wish to.

All the documents can be viewed on the Town Council website

When/If Will They Ever Learn –

We all know the ‘power’ of Social Media, it can make or break businesses and reputations, often with ‘false news/comments’ – I too have be very careful what I publish on this web-blog, ensuring that what is said is correct and legal.

Unfortuantely some of our ‘vocal local politians’ have not learnt any lessons from the past.
I also remind, that in recent times, Clegg, Camerron and Borris all use this phase very often that ‘Lessons must be learnt’ – when in reality it rarely happens.

Read the article in the Cambs Times© this week and it see that a Whittlesey Councillor made #4 in the rankings of 9 never to be forgotten moments from Cambridgeshire Politicians, same Councillor who has upset only this week remarks made on Social Media.
Advice – Give it a rest for a while…..-…….. Learn Lessons…..Hope so.

Yes – Yes – Yes – Success After nearly 15 Years….

My BIG thanks to Cllr Dee Laws, who after my long, long campaign to get ‘Inter-Active’ Signage placed around Whittlesy – fought through so many brickwalls to eventually get funding for this very important part of ‘Infrastructure’ to come to fruition.

Funding from the (past) Mayor of the Combined Authority has at very long last now been realised. Let us hope that those responsible for updating information keep us all fully imformed on issues/or/problems on our local road network.
15 years – many would have given up……oh, no, Cllr Laws and myself did not.

2 of the 3 installed signage were undergoing tests this afternoon.

All Change At Otterman’s Corner

I can only presume that with Busfest taking place on Sunday, and that the Ivy Leaf and other places may be used for the Buses – this evening 2 way traffic signals are in place, which means the route through Market Street to Broad Street is open (subject to traffic signals) the barrier around fire damaged ‘Otterman’s in still in place.

New Footpath To Be Installed Along New Road.

Please note FDC are granting the County Council a temporary licence of the Lattersey Nature Reserve car park for use as a site compound for one month from 2nd August, in order for the County’s Contractor to complete roadworks near New Road Primary School and to build a turning head at the entrance to the car park itself.

I believe a new footpath will go as far as the Nature Reserve entrance.

The Trust that manage Lattersey have been consulted and are content, and we are asking the County to put up advance warning signs regarding the closure.

New Picnic Bench Project

A shared project between Whittlesey Street Pride, Whittlesey Town Council &
The Glassmoor Wind Turbine Fund is advancing well (sort of).

Tuesday saw all the old woooden/damaged/vandalised benches removed.
The contactors
Whittlesey based Phil Brannigan Ground Works, dug out 5 new bases.
Wedesday afternoon the delivery of concrete was delivered and all shuttered off.
By early evening some of our ‘local feral louts’ had already damaged one of the bases….
Another one had minor damage (This is before the Benches have been installed!).
Today our excellent contractors repaired the damaged base and dug out the remaining 3 bases.
8 brand new Picnic Benches, (2) being Disabled Access. a lot of money, time and effort.
I just hope our ‘feral louts’ can leave these alone for everyone to enjoy.

Each bench is made from 3,000 recycled British plastic bottles.

The repaired base today.

Ottermans – Broad Street Road Closure….

With the immenent BUSFEST taking place this Sunday, I understand there maybe a change in starting points, by the organisers will decide later.
Highways are coming out shortly to see if it will be possible to put stop/go lights at the junction of Market Street/Broad Street/Barr Street.

They have been advised by CNC Building Control that the Harris fencing needs to stay on the pavement due to the front of the building in their opinion unstable.

Highways inspector has confirmed they will be putting up lights, not quite decided if it will be two way or three way. Hopefully tonight or first thing tomorrow morning.

Update 16:00 On – Was This The Worse Jam Ever

Well this time I did my run-around on my Mobilty Truck – and tonight at KellyVision Roundabout is already starting to grid-lock, I’ve been up there twice today and as yet have not seen any workmen (not when I was there) – so be prepared for some long delays.

I witnessed what has to be one of the worse grid-locks for years. We were told the the 4 way traffic management was to be for Monday of this week, duly they installed them on Sunday. We have received no notification about todays ‘traffic management’ From the beginning of rush hour(s) gridlock everywhere leading into/out of Whittlesey. Traffic backed up to Eastrea.

Work along New Road – Install Path….

As part of the planning permission for the expansion of New Road Primary school, Cambridgeshire County Council was conditioned to provide a footpath from Lattersey Nature reserve, across the household waste recycling centre, joining the footpath which leads past the  allotments and some upgrades to the road from the entrance to the school heading to the Lattersey Nature reserve.
I thought it would be helpful to let the Town Council know that the work is scheduled in from 2nd August – 6th September. There will be a 3 way traffic management system in place in order to manage the works with disruption to the road during the 5 week period.
