WARNING – POTENTIAL SCAM RELATING TO DOUBLE GLAZED WINDOWS

Message sent by : Julie Bailey (Police, Community Safety Officer, Fenland)

The following has been passed to us from Fenland District Council (FDC) although FDC message is for Wisbech residents I would like to pre-empt and reassure Fenland residents…

RESIDENTS ARE BEING WARNED ABOUT POTENTIAL SCAM RELATING TO DOUBLE GLAZED WINDOWS.

FDC have been made aware that some residents in Wisbech are receiving leaflets through their doors stating that unless they upgrade their double glazing windows to ‘A’ rating before April 2018, they will be penalised in their Council Tax bills next year. These leaflets are nothing to do with FDC and having double glazing (or not) has no bearing on Council Tax bills. If you receive or have received a letter through your door please contact trading standards and provide the details to them! Alternatively you can post it to Wisbech Police Station for my attention if possible with your details enclosed and I will pass it to FDC and Trading Standards. Please could I ask if you can forward this message to anybody in your community you feel might benefit from knowing about this scam. Kind regards Julie Bailey Crime Reduction and Community Safety Officer.

RG – If anyone gets this scam in Whittlesey – please let me know and I’ll pass it on.

Friends – Pennyless – Event went well in the end….

After some initial concerns about ticket sales – all went off pretty well I am told.

Although not quite the sell out of other events put on by The Friends of Whittlesey Library – The event was enjoyed by those who attended.

The FOWL AGM unfortunately did not produce any great ‘new’ interest from the public at large to help keep and possibly enhance our Library Services in Whittlesey.

50 Years – Tempus Fugit

Where has 50 years gone – I ask – today 50 years ago, on my 16th birthday, saved up all my ‘paper money’ paid for, insured and taxed myself as a schoolboy, my 1961 Royal Enfield Crusader Sports – how independent I felt then – as I still do ?

New Queen Street PPG – Sponsored Water Machine

Cheque Presentation

The NQS Patients Participation Group, handed over a cheque to buy a Water Machine to be installed in the waiting area of the surgery. On many occasions people having to wait, have found it inconvenient and uncomfortable at times when in need of a drink.
The Patients Group have raise money very successfully by selling cakes at the recent Flu Clinics.

Oil Being Stolen

This message is for those members of the community that use Oil for heating your homes! With the nights drawing in and the Summer fading fast, now is the time to be thinking about turning your heating on and checking the oil tank in the garden.
We are unfortunately starting to receive reports of Oil being stolen from tanks! Where possible try to conceal/disguise your tank. If possible install a oil tank alarm.

(These work on a sensor and will inform you when tank running low but also warn you if there is a sudden drop in oil).

Order your oil from a reputable supplier. When oil delivered be aware of vehicles acting suspiciously around the location, make note of index and make model of vehicle. If you see anything that you feel is suspicious please call the police on the non emergency number 101. If you witness a crime being committed please call 999.
Many thanks
Julie Bailey Crime Reduction and Community Safety Officer Fenland.

Cyber Crime Update Sept Issue

Interesting for those who ‘think’ “CCleaner” is NOT itself immune to attack – “CCleaner” is a piece of software that ‘cleans’ up ‘some’ files after internet use – do not be fooled into a false sense of security…. read the article.
