Remain Alert to Telephone Scam…Whittlesey Today

A new twist on a telephone scam.
Just had a call from 01625 406867.

A voice who sounded as if he originated from the Indian sub-continent garbled the name of his company and said he was ringing to let me know I wouldn’t be receiving any more tele-marketing calls from them, and then wanted to check my details.

When I refused to give them he ended the call.
Very crafty, which could catch people out.
Regards,
S

Thanks To Those Who Leave Rubbush

On my usual regular Litter Picking campaign, The Manor Field is covered, as with most years, as soon as ‘holidays’ start the rubbish left increases…(Now I must not blame any group in particular – that wouldn’t be right!!!) – today I found a good bag full 10Kgs of rubbish/plastics left over….By all means have a ‘Party’ and a good time – but there are plenty of bins – USE THEM PLEASE.

Last night the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Whittlesey & District Neighbourhood Watch took place at Grosvenor House (WTC Offices), we welcomed 13 members (42 NHW Schemes in operation throughout the area) – along with Sergeant Richard Lugg and PCSO Shane Green.
Sgt Lugg gave the group lots of updates on Crime (Less than last year) and Policing overall within the Fenland area.
All members were given the opportunity to ask questions.

I am honoured to have been re-elected for the 8th consecutive year as the Chairman of the Group and thank my fellow committee members Robin Sutton (Secretary) and John Garnett (Treasurer) for their very valuable support and help, both re-elected.

Some Good News from Cambridgeshire Matters News-Letter

A bright future for Cambridgeshire libraries

CCC’s Communities and Partnership Committee has unanimously agreed to progress our Future Libraries project – in partnership with Civic – to design future models of libraries for the county and, ultimately, the country.

The project follows on from the previous transformation work carried out by the Library Service that enabled the council to keep all libraries open, and to plan many new libraries and improve existing ones as part of future growth plans.

The project will see five archetypes of library models piloted in seven locations across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough – Anchor of the High Street, Centre for Rural Life, Hub for the Region, (Re)animating Communities and Pop-Up for Reviving Community Assets.

The ambition is to prove these models in the pilot areas before rolling them out to all Cambridgeshire and Peterborough libraries over three years so that all libraries benefit. Members will be involved at each stage of the project and in particular in the design phase where engagement with local communities will be paramount.

Kings Dyke Bridge Costs – So Far

Some are asking on social media what costs have been incurred thus far, I believe the costing to be in the region £7+ Million.
This includes the cost of buying the land, the clearing phase (I) of the site and any associated fee’s incurred for 3rd parties such as consultants.

As previously published (last week) the proposed route butts up to the ‘pit’ and would/will require a substantial amount of underpinning and foundation work….
Some local Councillors are minded now to abandon the project altogether and promote a ‘Bypass’.
I am keeping my options open (in light of what has already been spent) and wait to hear what Cambs CC and Metro Mayor Palmer have to offer (when-ever)

B1040 – Ramsey Road Resurfacing – 12th August

The resurfacing schemes listed in the previous email will be delivered by our contractor Tarmac, on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council.
The scheduled start dates and durations for the work are all detailed on our website.
The work will be carried out on site Monday – Friday only unless weather causes delays.

Please bear in mind that the programme for the two B1040 schemes and the B1095 is sequential in nature, so delays on one scheme may affect the delivery dates of those following on.

Please note that due to the deep excavation being carried out to repair the road, four of the schemes in this year’s package will be delivered under a 24/7 closure.
This means that for the duration of the work the road won’t be available as a through route for traffic or emergency vehicles.

The first scheme to commence will be the B1040 Ramsey Road on 12th August, the A1101 Mildenhall will follow on a week later on the 19th August, once the work on the B1382 is complete.
I am aware this work will cause disruption to local stakeholders, we will however be working closely with our contractor to reduce this as much as possible. We have set up a dedicated email address and phone number for the duration of the work, these will go ‘live’ shortly, in addition we have also created our own web page. Emails and phone calls will all be responded to within 24hrs of receipt. Letters will be sent out to local businesses and residents two weeks in advance. Prior to the work commencing, a CCC officer and member of Tarmac will also be visiting any businesses located within the extents of each scheme to discuss both the delivery process and any concerns they may have regarding access arrangements.
The following is a link to the web page that has been created for this year’s EHA package – www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/resurfacing-works/
In the first instance please direct all enquiries to this page. Overview locations for each of the five schemes are included, along with a downloadable copy of each diversion route –

Beware Another Telephone Scam Doing The Rounds..

I have this morning received two consecutive telephone calls from residents of a village in South Cambs warning about a telephone scam. It sounds like the call was probably automated but it warned the resident that £600 was about to be taken from their Mastercard unless they pressed 1 to connect to a case handler.

Whilst these incidents were both in the same local area, it is likely that the scammers are working through a list organised by geographical area/postcode and therefore there is a strong chance this scam will at some point rear its ugly head in your local area. Please be vigilant to this and pass the message on so that others can be vigilant too.

If you receive a call like this simply hang up and do not press any number instructed in the message as this will likely result in a substantial connection charge or connect you to someone who is very persuasive or threatening.
Report the call to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Thank you for your continued support.
