Cambridgeshire Constabulary is taking part in a live Tweet-a-thon today to mark International Control Room Week and demonstrate the hard work of call takers.
From 8am to 4pm a Tweet will be posted directly from the demand hub to the forces @cambscops twitter account every time an incident comes in.
It is hoped this will help to demonstrate the hard work and dedication of officers and staff to successfully manage these calls and allocate the most appropriate resource available.
During the Covid-19 pandemic control room staff across the emergency services have been hard at work behind the scenes in what at times have been very challenging circumstances.
For the six months from April-September this year police in Cambridgeshire have taken 62,438 x 999 calls, 141,713 x 101 and 14,044 online reports.
As well as the Tweet-a-thon, social media posts will be published throughout the week which describe the experiences of control room staff during the pandemic.
Superintendent Mike Branston said: “I’d like to thank each and every one of our officers and staff in the demand hub who work incredibly hard to provide an excellent service to the public in what can often be very challenging circumstances.
“Control room staff are hidden away from public view, but are an essential part of our response to emergency situations, as well as dealing with calls for service which may not require an immediate response.
“They are that voice on the end of the phone, or the person behind the keyboard, who has to make very difficult decisions about allocating resource and prioritising those most in need. They are often the reassuring voice for the victim and have to be there for people when they face some truly horrific situations.
“We hope this Tweet-a-thon will help to demonstrate the challenges they face and the dedication they show to their role.”

Ten weeks ago a policy paper titled ‘Gear Change: a bold vision for cycling and walking’ was published by the Government informing us of anticipated future legislation, alongside was the Cycle Infrastructure Design’ guide.

After reading the above even the most skeptical should be excited by the prospect of being involved in something truly transformational.
Boris Johnson’s initiative has the potential to regenerate everything it touches and Whittlesey, with its flat Dutch landscape and unresolved active travel problems is a serious candidate for inclusion.

explain how a well educated nation changed public policy and created a model that is now the benchmark for the rest of the world, so we must put the A605 traffic elsewhere and learn how to better manage the traffic of people who live here.
Please don’t regard the following as flippancy but if you really want to understand Holland’s urban cycling and walking phenomenon you must visit this small, friendly and English speaking country and if you then feel their policies could be right for us fight for change.
Alphen aan den Rijn a busy town nine miles east of the university city of Leiden, provides an excellent example of an environment that is healthier, quieter and safer for its residents, just hire a bike and take it all in.

On the 13th October 2020, Microsoft released an important update to all users of Windows 10 OS. (CVE-2020-1047)
(If you use Windows OS on a work computer, then updates may be managed by your ICT)
The update fixes 87 vulnerabilities with one having a Microsoft severity score of 9.8 out of 10, and has been described as dangerous. This bug can allow a criminal to take over any Windows operating system that has not been patched.
A second issue of note, relates to Outlook in which the bug can be exploited by tricking the user to open a specially crafted file with an affected version of the Microsoft Outlook software.
You may already have updates set to Automatic, but please check just in case the updates have not been applied.
To do this, click on the magnifying glass on the task bar bottom left of your screen, then in the search bar start typing ‘windows update’ and you will then see Windows Update Settings appear, click on this and follow the instructions.

A neighbour of ours (90 years old) decided to engage workmen from a flyer put through his door. I have seen the flyer and all
looks professional/insured.
He/They agreed the work and price, however after 20 minutes they told him they had finished – he pointed out several small jobs which
had not been addressed….20 minutes later they said they had finished – again not all jobs completed.
At the end (I have cctv as proof – they were at his property for 1 hour 2 minutes) they charged him £100 (which he paid) and had still not completed the jobs he had requested.
I’ll not go on too long but yes he appears to have been ripped off – that said should he have paid a £100
I will investigate on his behalf – but have they broken the law – the answer is no – has he been ripped off – probably.
On our estate we tend to use workmen who are (a) local and (b) recommended – my neighbour has lived here some 40 years and I am forever explaining to him (a) & (b)
Just be careful.
I am sure not to be alone in ‘understanding’ the somewhat many complexities of the never ending differing COVID Rules – Even ‘Eton Boris’ has had trouble when interviewed…
There is however one rule that is easy to understand…
Sex is banned indoors for ‘tier 2’ couples living apart and the jokes came thick and fast.
The government has moved to clarify one particular consequence of living in a ‘tier 2’ part of the UK under the current coronavirus restrictions.
It means if you are a couple but you are living apart, you are no longer allowed to have sex. At least, not if you are indoors.
Couples living apart in areas with Tier 2 restrictions are not allowed to have sleepovers unless they are in a “support bubble”, Downing Street confirmed today.
Boyfriends and girlfriends will be able to meet outdoors in Tier 2 but are expected to adhere to social distancing rules such as hands, face and space.
They must also adhere to the rule of six.
However as always there are ways around these ‘Rules’
