Election Results – Whittlesey

Average turnout at around 33-38%. At least some of the electorate that voted had a choice of candidates, who were prepared to work hard at the elections and put their heads above the parapet.
Congratulations to those elected – now is the time to do what has been promised.

One Small Success For RG One Giant Success For England & Wales

As readers maybe aware my friends and I have been clearing up other peoples rubbish and litter for some 12 years now.
Many ‘blights’ still ongoing and the rubbish and litter never goes away.

I have during this time campaigned at all levels for a ‘TAX’ to be placed on ALL single use items, such as Plastic Bags, Drink Cans and Bottles, Papers, Polystyrene and Take away food containers.
The 5p ‘Levy’ came into effect in 2015 and has raised in excess of £180 million

The UK Government have in this time collected £70 Million in VAT

There is of course a valid argument that a ‘deposit’ scheme could work and I am very much in favour of this idea.
I spoke (again after nearly 8 years lobbying MP Barclay over the matters) and some very slow progress is being made.
At long last the 5p Plastic Bag TAX is being raised to 10p and all shops will  have to comply.
There is a VAT element to the Platic Bag TAX but as less bags are used, then there is of course less TAX for the Government.

The residue goes towards environmental projects around the country.

The single-use carrier bag charge will rise from 5p to 10p and be extended to all businesses in England from 21 May.

The government said all stores, including corner shops, will now have to apply the charge from that date.

The 5p levy on plastic bags was introduced in England in 2015. Since then their use has fallen by over 95%.

The average person in England now buys just four single-use carrier bags a year from the main supermarkets, compared with 140 in 2014.

“The introduction of the 5p charge has been a phenomenal success,” said Environment Minister Rebecca Pow.

Many ‘third world countries are way ahead of us, I will keep the campaign going.

Election Results – Hold On – Expect Delays

Polling stations across the UK have now opened to allow voters to elect councillors and Police and Crime Commissioners for their local area.

People have until 10pm tonight to cast their vote in the largest local election since 1973 following the reorganisation of local government.

Scheduled elections were postponed in 2020 following the emergency Coronavirus Act, meaning that the serving elected officials remained in their posts for an additional 12 months.
Coronavirus is expected to be the most important issue to voters in the elections, despite the fact that key decisions on the pandemic are made at a national level. A survey conducted by the University of Essex nonetheless found that 59 per cent of respondents ranked coronavirus as their highest priority issue.

Under normal circumstances, the first set of results would be expected as early as midnight, but delays are anticipated as a result of coronavirus regulations.

19 of the 143 council areas are expected to announce a result on Friday morning with Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Sunderland and Thurrock expected to announce the first set of results. The result of the by-election in Hartlepool is also expected to be known by Friday morning.
74 councils will start to count votes on Friday morning, with a result expected later in the day. Others will start throughout the weekend, with some results being announced late on Sunday.
Expected reults (guide only) Friday 5pm – Cambridge, Cambridgeshire,

The results of the city and county council elections will be announced on Friday 7 May.

The results of the elections for the Mayor of the Combined Authority for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and the Police and Crime Commissioner will be announced on Saturday 8 May.

Are Things Looking Up Near The Millennium Bridge

Some call it a Marina….I think that is pushing it a bit too far, however, there has been ‘some’ tidying up and my correspondent informs me, there is a way to go.

Lots OF Scams Reported Today.

My busiest days for calls and e-mails reporting Scams, the usual BT, Amazon, HMRC, and DVLA to name a few. Be careful as always. Most Scammers are using UK mobile numbers which ‘look real’

The text claims to be from ‘CouncilUK’ and asks the recipient whether they have any damp or issues in their home. The sender then claims to be offering home improvements and money back on rent. It asks the recipient to click a link.

Red flags that suggest this is not a genuine message are:

  • The text was unsolicited and was received out of the blue.
  • The sender ‘Council UK’ is not a genuine organisation.
  • The text includes a link to click. (We haven’t visited this link but it’s likely to ask for personal information including bank or card details which would then be used to steal money or it could infect your device with malware).
  • The text has a grammatical error as it starts a sentence with a lower case letter.

Beware any text message asking you to click a link, including where the message appears to be from a genuine organisation like NHS, HMRC, GOV.UK or a well known bank. Scammers can spoof the number of genuine organisations to make their communications look authentic.
It is best not to click on any link unless you know the message to be genuine.

Forward suspicious texts to 7726.

Suspicious e-mails can be forwarded to report@phishing.gov.uk Do not click on links or attachments.
