Freemans Butchers located centre/left Looking east on the March Road in Coates in 1937 Not sure if the shop was there in 1937 with a horse drawn delivery taking place at The Vine public house on the distant right.

Family business that goes back 3 generations – I did meet ‘Wilf Freeman’ when I was at primary school in Coates – besides his butcher business he sold a few items out of his freezer… an ‘Ice Lolly’ @ 1d (old money) – he slaughtered and butchered most of his own meat.
Son David delivered meat on his ‘Butchers Bike’ and some years later delivered all over the area from his mobile butchers van.
David and the girls opened up their shop in High Causeway at the end of the 1980’s

This leaves only J. Jones (which is no longer in family hands) as traditional local butchers.

Last nights meeting various updates on the sub-committee’s progress which considering the Group has only been going for about a year – everyone very happy with progress.

The Pheonic Youth Provision Group is now well established and has received funding from various sources.

The Loneliness & Isolation Group with support from Whittlesey Neighbourhood Watch is also doing well.

The Sports Hub Development is work in progress with some good ideas.

The work is being carried out by BT Contractors – Fibre Optic….upgrades/installations.

This Sundays event is being evaluated for Health & Safety reasons, with temperatures forecast to be very high, everyone needs to be careful to the exposure and be responsible for themselves.
