At Long – Long Last – Kings Dyke Bridge To Open

Most long time residents have campaigned for a better crossing at Kings Dyke for some 50 years or more, during the 1980’s and 90’s Cllr Ralph Butcher and Martin Curtis both County Councillors fought on behalf of residents.

The then short term leader of Cambs CC – Nick Clarke brought the Bridge to the forfront.
9 years later with many challenges along the way – finally the Crossing will open –
of course
it will not solve the for ever increasing traffic and HGV’s on the A605…..
That’s another campaign.

Ralph and myself 2019 – I happened to mention on this blog in 2015 that an apt name for the crossing should be named after Ralph?

Whittlesey Patrols

We have had a number of reports recently in Whittlesey about ASB around open spaces and Parks.
These incidents range from people being rowdy and noisy, smoking cannabis, causing criminal damage, littering and causing a number of problems for residents near these areas.

Some of the areas we have been tonight and yesterday include: The Manor Playing Field, The Garden of Remembrance, Burdett Grove, St Mary’s Church and gardens and The Buttercross. We will be continuing these patrols and continue to ask you to report these issues to us.

Last Nights WTC Meetings

Not quite as exciting as what is happening nationally – but here is our local news….

At last nights (Wednesday) WTC Community Projects meeting, one of the main topics discussed was next years events – Music on the Square, a proposal is that one of the events would join/complement The BIG BASH scheduled to take place 18th June 2023
Also debated was the posibility of holding other Music events at Coates and/or Feldale.
The possibility of a Continental Market is still being looked into.

One of the main planning applications last night was that of ‘The Monastery’ – Market Street, planned to now be converted into flats/accommodation.
The building is within Whittlesey conservation area and has within it some ‘paintings’ on the walls which has been documented previously.
I read (part) of the updated Heritage Statement for the record of the minutes.

The wall paintings to the first floor of 9C are to have an updated condition survey. Following this survey maintenance plan will be formed to govern how the paintings will be conserved during the works on going. This will include any necessary cleaning and conservation, as well as proposals for covering the paintings, to be undertaken at the time of the works, and how the paintings should be accessed following occupation of the dwellings. All proposals to be agreed with Conservation Officer before commencement of works.
