Louts/Yobs – Call Them What-You-Like

Every time the ‘latest’ batch of ‘bored youths’ cause some damage, there is a cost to those who pay Council rates/tax.
If there’re not setting fire to something, then some silly grafitti appears.
Open drug taking is reported frequently both in the Manor Field area and at The Garden of Rest to name two places.

Last nights ‘boredom’ resulted in the coming ‘prepared’ for some paintwork as they very kindly left the pots of paint by the Litterbin – how considerate.

Just for the ‘angry gentleman’ who claimed I did nothing – I spent an hour clearing up
litter in the Garden of Rest yesterday, as I do most days – care to join me – doubt it.
Not been reading this blog for 10 years to see what I have been doing…….angry man.

Historical murder to feature in TV special

A Cambridgeshire murder, which happened almost 30 years ago, will be the focus of a two-part special of Channel 4’s 24 Hours in Police Custody which starts today (July 4).

The episodes follow the re-investigation of the murder of six-year-old Rikki Neave, who was killed in Peterborough in 1994.
Former Assistant Chief Constable Paul Fullwood, senior lead for the investigation, said: “This investigation was extremely complex and quite unlike anything else the team has encountered before.

“We meticulously trawled through hundreds of statements, exhibits and other evidence to build a timeline of Rikki’s last movements and find his killer.

“The programme will take people on the whole journey, over the past three decades, from Rikki’s tragic death to the conviction of his killer after an almost eight-year battle by the investigation team.

“Our aim was always to find the answers Rikki’s family longed for and ensure the person responsible for his untimely death was brought to justice.”

Last month James Watson, 41, was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of murdering Rikki on 28 November 1994.

Watson, who was 13 at the time, strangled Rikki in woodland on the Welland Estate before stripping him and leaving his naked body with legs and arms outstretched.

Rikki’s mother Ruth Neave was originally charged with his murder and offences of child cruelty.
She pleaded guilty to the latter and was unanimously found not guilty of his murder following a trial in October 1996.

The episodes will air at 9pm on today (4 July) and tomorrow (5 July).

A Successful Yard Sale

I did visit just a couple of the Yard Sales in Eastrea as it looked like a thunderstorm was about to drop.
I understand the day was very successful for many of those who took part.

Well done.

Drone pictures of Blackbush Meadow – this is the healthy part, normally the whole field is of this quailty. One of the last managed meadows within Whittlesey.

Lack of rainfall has probably caused ½ of the Meadow to Dry-out…

COVID Updates

Welcome to Friday’s coronavirus (COVID-19) latest insights, a roundup of our analysis related to the pandemic.

COVID-19 infections have continued to rise across the UK, with more than 1 in every 30 people estimated to have tested positive in the latest week.

An estimated 2,294,300 people in the UK would have tested positive for COVID-19 in the week to 24 June.

Prevalence was highest in Scotland (5.47% of the population, or 1 in 18 people) and lowest in England (3.35% of the population, or 1 in 30 people).

The recent rises in infections are likely to be linked to the Omicron variants BA.4 and BA.5.

Today we have also published data on deaths registered in 2021, which show London had the highest COVID-19 death rate across all English regions and Wales.

Car wash visits combat modern slavery

A member of the public has had concerns in our area and reported it, he thought that the Police telephone operator was somewhat dismissive, however reading below that may not be the case.

Officers have visited 15 hand car washes across the county in the last three weeks as part of efforts to combat modern slavery.
They were joined by partners from the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority and the Environment Agency as they checked on working conditions and the welfare of staff.

Although most hand car washes are legitimate businesses, some exploit workers to maximise profits.
Signs of modern slavery relevant to car washes include people:

  • seeming overly tired, withdrawn or avoiding eye contact
  • looking unkempt or showing signs of physical abuse
  • appearing fearful or intimidated by management
  • having a lack of protective equipment

If you use hand car washes, please know the signs of modern slavery to look out for and report any concerns – no matter how insignificant they may seem. We would much rather discovery everything is legitimate than have someone trapped in a desperate situation.

For more information on modern slavery or to make a report, visit our website.

Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,
Tim Goddard
