Update – Cambridge: Congestion Charge Plans #2

I wonder ‘if’ any weight/notice’ will be given? – on many occasions when consultations take place – little or no notice is taken from the results – Thats why many are disillusioned to take part*
(*Nearly all Health Service consultations have resulted in the opposite to what the public actually voted for)

Fenland District Council’s meeting yesterday a resolution was passed unanimously to oppose the congestion charge but this had been included on the agenda beforehand.

As the area being proposed includes the main hospital area of Cambridge, which many residents of Whittlesey and The Fens need to access – it is very important that YOUR views are represented.

(RG – I doubt very much ‘if’ anything offered in this package will help or benifit the residents of Whittlesey – The idea – great – but all the benifits are all aimed at Cambridge.)

Cambridge: Campaigners Rally Against Congestion Charge Plans #1

The proposals include:

  • All vehicles moving in and out of a proposed Sustainable Travel Zone (STZ) would pay a flat daily charge between 7am and 7pm on weekdays. Proposed charge for private cars is £5 a day. The zone would not be fully introduced until 2027/28.
  • The zone charge will cover the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, home to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Royal Papworth Hospital and the Rosie Maternity Hospital.
  • The zone charge aims to improve public spaces in Cambridge, making them more ‘people-centric’.
  • Discounts, exemptions and reimbursements for some, including those on low incomes and blue badge holders.
  • Money generated by the zone would be used to provide better buses and other improvement to the transport network.
  • New bus routes, additional orbital and express services to key sites across the city, and a huge increase in services for villages and towns across the travel to work area.
  • Buses supported by flexible services known as Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) – which you can book and picks you up from near your home.
  • Flat fares to make public transport cheap and accessible for all; with passengers paying £1 to travel in the city and £2 in the travel to work area. Changes proposed for early 2023.

Have Another Say – Again….

“Sadly, Government spends only £16 per head on public transport in the East of England as opposed to £32 per head in Yorkshire and Humber or £36 per head in East Midlands.
Have a go – of course you could ask the very busy MP Barclay why we get the crumbs….
