50th Anniversary of The Community Payback Team

I attended the 50th anniversary of the Community payback Team at their Probation Centre in Huntindon last night, the Police and Crime Commissioner also attended along with Magistrates from Peterborough – plus two Peterborough City Councillors.

We used to get the Payback Team regularly when based in Peterborough but rarely see them now. I will in due course liase with other WTC Councillors to see if we can get work done in the community in future.

Our old friend – supervisor Kenny Carrington was there and received an award for his work – he now runs the Cambridge City Team.

Drink And DO NOT DRIVE

We made three arrests this weekend for drink driving in Fenland.

The first was in the early hours of Saturday morning where a man was seen leaving a pub in March and driving off. He blew 72 at the roadside – double the legal limit which is 35!!

The next was on Saturday afternoon in Leverington following a collision, where the driver blew a huge 132 at the roadside – almost four times the limit.

The third was on Saturday evening following a collision on the A141 at Westry, near March, where the driver blew 75 at the roadside.

All three have been charged with drink driving and bailed to appear in court next month.

These are just three out of 117 people arrested in Cambridgeshire for drink-drive related offences so far this year – that’s an average of more than two every single day.

Your information helps us catch drink drivers, so please keep calling our confidential hotline if you have concerns about someone.
Don’t forget, if you witness someone drink driving or see someone driving dangerously, call 999 immediately.

Information about drink driving, the law and the penalties can be found on our website here https://orlo.uk/uDNvV

How Was Your Councillors Attendance

Some Councillors have a very good attendance record – I believe ‘we’ are all allowed holidays etc … that may exclude us from attending, but it is at these meetings ‘we’ and the public who attend hear issues/concerns/progress first hand – not by Social Media or Hearsay.

Someone Asked – Ward Boundaries….

The new ward boundaries for the whole of the Fenland area, can be found on FDC’s web portal @ https://www.fenland.gov.uk/StandingForElectiongo to the right side and you will find the Whittlesey Wards – maybe if you are not sure may take a couple of guesses where you will be.

The WHS2 is a bit ‘fuzzy/out of focus’ when enlarged – I asked FDC for a better version but that is all they have….I have extracted the ‘town’ part of the ward in which I plan to stand.

South Ward – Whittlesey included areas WHS2 and WHS3 – a very big area now…..

Stolen Vehicle Appeal

Police have issued a warning to be on the lookout for a stolen vehicle they believe could be used in further crimes.

Yesterday (23 February) the white Volkswagen Golf R was stolen outside the county but officers suspect it could be used by thieves in Cambridgeshire.

This vehicle is new and has twin exhausts to the rear.

Sergeant Amanda Rossiter said: “If you see any vehicles matching this description that you don’t normally see on your road or you see occupants acting suspiciously, please do not approach and call us on 999.

“We would rather come out and find a vehicle that is not involved in crime than not have it reported at all.”
