Let Us Start The New Year – Safe From Scammers
2022 saw at least 100 people in our area, who were scammed out of money – they are the ones we know about – the figure is probably higher. Be careful – think….

There are no planned Whittlesey Town Council or Fenland District Council meetings
until next year.
It is time to take a short break.
There will be some updates in relation to anything either urgent or to do with crime.
Connie and I wish you all, A Very Happy Christmas where-ever you may be.
A Healthy and Hopefully Prosperous New Year.

Update on Our Two Local Scouts Peter & Thomas
I wrote the original article on 28th February this year.
I am pleased to report the following.
The boys announced at their Quiz in October that they have now reached their Target. The support form the local community has been absolutely fantastic. Who would have believed that they would manage it in just under a year, but they have worked so hard with lots of events.
They have spoken to Robert Windle and are hoping to go onto Fenland Youth Radio at some point so that they can thank everyone.
When they come back from Korea next summer they are hoping to lay on a thank-you event where they can talk to people who have supported them about their fundraising journey and then about the actual trip itself
A few words from Wendy
Peter Easterbrook & Thomas Cox
We are 2 Whittlesey boys who have both been in scouting since we were small. We have been lucky enough to be selected to represent Cambridgeshire at the 25th World Scout Jamboree 2023 in SaeManGeum, South Korea. This is a huge privilege as these events are only held every 4 years and the selection process is tough.

Police Training Costs Money
One of our team priorities it to tackle anti-social driving across March, Whittlesey and Chatteris.
To help us do this to the best of our ability, we took part in a stinger training course last week and will now be equipped to deploy a stinger where needed.
A stinger is a hollow spike tyre deflation device which works by puncturing one or more tires of an oncoming vehicle when they are thrown into its path by an officer from the side of the road.
They are then quickly retracted before a following police car passes by.
They are designed to gradually deflate tires making it significantly
more difficult for a motorist evading police to continue driving.
This will be a great addition to have available and will help us to tackle anti-social driving and bring vehicles that make off from us to a stop in a safe manner

Police & Crime Commissioner….
A very nice Festive Message from Darryl Preston, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire & Peterborough to wish us all a Happy Christmas one minute and 5 minutes later send us what he considers an increase in the Police precept for next year.
Every year I have supported the PCC and their increases in precept – It is difficult to justify a 5.8% increase – I am thinking about where or not to support…

Speed Can YOU Tell Someones Speed?
I am contacting you with regards to speed patrols carried out in the area of STONALD RD & DRYBREAD RD by local officers recently. These were conducted in response to issues raised by local councillors, residents and reviewing of the speed data on the signs in these locations.
Officers conducted 2 patrols in these locations and gave WOA to a total of 11 vehicles. The highest recorded speed on STONALD was 35 in a 30mph and on DRYBREAD, 28 in a 20mph. At officer discretion no tickets were issues but education given around speed awareness.
Local residents were also spoken to and education given around vehicles they perceived to be speeding which were actually travelling within the specified limit.
I have noted that the speed signs are clear and frequent on DRYBREAD RD and there are traffic calming measures in place which appear to be fairly effective along with the natural calming measures created by parking at school pick up and drop off times. STONALD RD however is a long straight stretch of road with less parked vehicles to discourage speeding. I feel this would benefit from some traffic calming measures being placed and residents have expressed to officers conducting patrols that they would feel safer if this were the case.
