FDC NOT Putting Up Council Tax For 5th Year Running

Fenland District Council are proposing NOT to increase their share of our Council Rates/Tax for the forthcoming year, if accepted this is some good news for us tax payers.
As stated nearly everyone else wants an increase – Police, Fire, Social Services and Camb CC for sure. Whittlesey Town Council have not yet made their decision.

I am not defending The Police – However..

Year on year ‘we’ the paying public are forever asked to pay more and more for the services we receive, in many/most cases the justification may be inflation or trying to maintain improve a service.
Our emergency services are in the same position, their staff suffer the same inflation as the rest of us, The Police and Crime Commisioner an elected person (by a very few who bothered to vote) is supposed to hold the Chief Constable to account for policing in our county – He does not and can not influence how the police operate – but should ensure that funding is sufficient to keep us all safe…..

I would encourage as many readers as possible to let the PCC know your views, good, bad or indifferent.

I publish when sent to me, all the latest crime figures in Fenland –
again I am proud to say,
this is Web-blog is one of the very few places you will find this information. The Crime Statistics have not greatly altered for a number of years….

You can visit the survey here: The Police & Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire | Police funding 2023-24 survey (cambridgeshire-pcc.gov.uk)

To those – We never see a Policeman or the Police in our area.
From R.S.

Which brings me to the police issue. The police are data led – this means that they will not patrol the streets at random or on regular beats but will act in various but directed ways. They schedule their patrols based on intelligence and analysis of crime statistics. This has proved effective in reducing crime but is heavily dependent on receiving the necessary information.
I am working with our two local sergeants at the moment on devising a clear guide to reporting information effectively as we have found that many reports do not contain sufficient evidence of the right kind and this prevents them from taking further action.

(R.S.)

If it is not reported, it is not recorded – the Police are unaware of an issue.

PCC Wants More Money to Fund Cambs Police…

Have YOUR Say….
Many thanks to those of you who have taken the time to submit your views through my online survey on funding our police service for 2023-24.

As your elected Police and Crime Commissioner, an important part of my job is to set the budget for policing – and that means making sure the Chief Constable has the resources he needs to effectively police Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

With the current cost-of-living pressures impacting on people’s incomes, believe me, asking you to contribute more to police funding is not something I want to do.

However it is important to remember that inflation applies to policing as well – with police vehicles, fuel and training all costing more than they did this time last year.

In order to continue to fund the service you receive, I am proposing a 19p weekly increase (for Band A properties), 29p for Band D properties.

Your views are welcome – please do complete the survey before the deadline of
13th January (5pm).

You can visit the survey here:
The Police & Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire | Police funding 2023-24 survey (cambridgeshire-pcc.gov.uk).

I would like to wish you all a very happy and healthy new year.

Best wishes

Darryl

Somewhat Slow To Inform Us…(Again)

So Cambs County Council has just woken up?…..

All nine household recycling centres run by Cambridgeshire County will refuse to accept upholstered domestic seating waste from January 1.

It means such things as sofas, cushions, chairs, or beanbags can no longer be dropped off at any the centres.

A county council spokesperson said today: “Direction by the Environment Agency – confirmed last week – means we can no longer accept upholstered domestic seating waste, such as sofas, cushions, chairs, or beanbags at any Cambridgeshire Household Recycling Centres from 1 January.

“We apologise for the short notice of this change.

“We are urgently working with our partners to resolve this.
Please retain these items until we can provide a further update.”

“All upholstered furniture must be incinerated and not sent to landfill or mixed up with other waste types.

“The question is why has CCC waited until 2 days before the assessment deadline to tell people, and why is there no handling system in place in time.”

I don’t think the person with an old sofa will retain it until CCC can make provison for it…
