Best comment on planning reasons (Google?) and not because food reviews stated it served good roast potatoes and mint sauce – not a planning reason or concern.

Household Support Fund Closing.

As far as I am aware, I am/was the only Councillor and Member of the Public in our area, to have been involved in this scheme, which started during the COVID pandemic.

I am very proud under my Chairmanship of Whittlesey Neighbourhood Watch to have obtained several support items including new fridge/freezers and a new washing machine for those in crisis during the pandemic.

Once restrictions were lifted, I was no longer directly involved – however I helped and signposted several (mainly single parents) to the other larger organisations who were supporting their community.

The Mega Incinderator Coming To Wisbech Update #2

Now I’ve had the opportunity to gauge the feedback from several Councillors (all levels) and some members of the public, we all agree this has been a travesty to say the least for the residents of Wisbech.

“When it comes to nationally significant infrastructure projects like this one, the decision – and responsibility for the decision – lies with central government.”

Some believe a judicial review, maybe called – however this is very expensive and is not about the decision, but how the decision reasoning was carried out – somewhat complex to us lay-people.

Nearly everyone I have contacted what-ever their political flavour is in agreement – wrong decision in the wrong place.

Below is the latest communication from The Saxongate Residents Group.
Whittlesey is already a main artery in processing Bottom End Ash, and with the prospect of the Wisbech Incinerator – there could be a lot more coming our way.
Saxongate Newsletter highlights these potential concerns.
Why not join with this group – no good afterwards – the bigger their voice the more chance of ‘us’ holding to account those who make the decisions.

Whittlesey Car Wash Fined £20K

A Cambridgeshire car wash has been fined £20,000 after being found to have illegal workers. SG Hand Car Wash Ltd in Whittlesey, was fined after an immigration enforcement visit on June 13, 2023.

The visit followed a report of illegal working. A civil penalty of £20,000 was issued after the employer was found to be employing two people with no right to work in the UK.

A Cambridgeshire Constabulary spokesperson said officers visited the site in June 2023 and discovered two illegal workers. One of the illegal workers was arrested and handed over to immigration services so their details could be confirmed, while the other was asked to leave the site.
The police spokesperson said: “Although most hand car washes are run as reputable businesses, sadly some exploit workers to maximise profits. At a time when money is increasingly tight, it is understandably tempting to seek out goods and services that are as cheap as possible, but please do not allow this to blind you to the exploitation and suffering of other people who may be paying a very heavy price for the money you are saving.”

They added: “Often, enslaved people don’t realise they are victims, or they are so scared of those controlling them that they don’t see a way out. That’s where the public come in – please know the signs of modern slavery and report any concerns.

“Please let us know if a situation doesn’t seem quite right. We’d much rather attend the premises and discover everything is legitimate than have a victim of slavery trapped in a horrendous situation.”

More Vandalism @ The Manor – Fen Cops

Last night Monday 19/2/2024 a Quad bike was ridden around the football/cricket area on the Manor Field. The incident started around 19:30 and according to a witness the vehicle had double headlights.
Apart from the damage caused to the grass the 5 bar wooden gate was destroyed in order to gain access to the field.
Judging by the size and depth of the tracks this was a substantial quad bike and would have been quite obvious travelling to and from The Manor.

If you saw anything that could relate to this vandalism please either report to the police at Report | Cambridgeshire Constabulary (cambs.police.uk) or reply to this message and your information will be passed to the relevant police.
