Please see the following announcement by Dr M Maddula.
We as a practice would like to wish him all the very best for the future.
I have an announcement to make to the good folk of Whittlesey and Stanground PPGs. After working in the NHS for forty years, twenty of which have been at Stanground and Whittlesey surgeries, I decided that I have done my bit for Queen and Country and so I will be hanging up my stethascope at the end of December.
The above decision was not an easy one to make. It took a lot of soul searching but in the end I felt it is the correct one for me to make.
General Practice has gone through a lot changes (and not all for the better ) in the past two decades. It has been starved of resources.
- a) Financial…. In 2018/19, for every 1£ spent in the NHS , only eight pence went to Primary Care despite Primary Care being the setting where almost 90% of contacts take place.
- b) Human resources…It has become increasingly difficult to recruit and retain young doctors into General Practice. Large numbers of them are emigrating to Canada, Australia and New Zealand for better work life balance.
However, despite all its limitations, General Practice still stands out as the shining jewel in the NHS crown.
Finally, I would like to end by saying that it has been a privilege and an honour to have served the patients of Stanground and Queen Street Surgeries. I would also like to wish you all a very safe Christmas and fingers crossed 2021 should be a much better year for all of us…..
