Neighbourhood Police Update

Parking and Speeding.

At recent community meetings residents in Chatteris and Whittlesey raised concerns about parking issues in the towns. A problem with speeding motorists was also highlighted.

As a result of these concerns, neighbourhood officers spent time in both locations issuing multiple parking tickets this week.

They also conducted speeding checks, but no offences were identified.

Visit our website for more information on policing where you live:

Kind regards,
Tim Goddard
Communications officer.

Very Poor Work – Cambs Highways (Again)

For quite some considerable time, some work carried out by ‘contractors’ for Cambs County Council, has not been good, in fact some say they are not fit for purpose….
Only this week highlighted on local TV News and the same excuses from the LibDeb portfolio holder for transport.
Below is an poor example along Blackbush Drove and again no excuse it not being a major road.

(Tar sprayed over 2 metres into the grass) (cracks still left for water to enter)

(More Tar damage – Crack again not filled in)

(Tar damaged and Pot Hole left?)

Plenty more photo’s.

I understand that after several complaints by a resident, and escalated by Cllr Laws and myself Highways Engineer has summoned the contractors to meet with him.

WTC Music Events for 2026

I have met some who think that the event(s) are a waste of money and have run their course, but for ‘most’ of the some 500 or so who attend these – ‘free’ events, and my understanding enjoy the day with partners and children, right in the centre of our town.

Below are the ‘provisional dates’ for next year..

Music on The Square.

Sunday 14th June.

Sunday 12th July.

Sunday 09th August.

Coates – Music on North Green.

Sunday 23rd August.

(dates maybe subject to changes)

Some Councillors Are Showing No Respect (Again)

Having received an e-mail earlier this week –

Good morning,

This is just a meetings reminder to ensure we have a sufficient number of members present to transact business.

Monday 18th August – Planning Committee @ 6.30pm

Monday 18th August – Community Projects @ 7.30pm

Reminder members are required in advance to submit apologies to the Chairman (Planning Committee , Cllr Alex Miscandlon & Community Projects Committee, Cllr Barry Wainwright) and copy the Temporary Proper Officer, Councillor Chris Boden.

If a Councillor is unable to attend a meeting, it falls to the committee member to nominate a substitute in advance but they must submitt the name prior to the meeting to the Temporary Proper Officer and copy the Chairman of the committee.

The exception is Councillor Roy Gerstner having nominated Councillor Eamonn Dorling at June’s full council meeting to cover in his absence at Community Project Committee meetings.  Members agreed unanimously.

Thank you,
Kind regards,
Dee
Councillor Mrs Dee Laws

This was reported tonight…..

Grosvenor Road Car Park, Whittlesey

This is a courtesy email to inform you of some future works in Whittlesey.

We are undertaking some major patching works in Grosvenor Road South Car Park, adjacent to the Bus Station.  These works will alleviate the issues we are currently experiencing of having to undertake several pothole repairs twice yearly, predominantly in the same locations each time.

To undertake these works safely it will be necessary to suspend several car parking bays and will require the closure of the entrance of the Car Park with the Car Park exit acting as an entry and exit point.

Traffic Management will be put in place and advanced notice boards will be erected on site at least 1 week prior to works commencing to inform the public of the proposed works.

Currently these works are scheduled for w/c 1st September 2025 and when on site should be completed in 3 days.

If you have any queries, then please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many Thanks
Mike
Mike Austin
Engineer.
