Somewhat Disappointed – Consultation Update Manor Leisure Centre.

I am informed that the vast majority of public are not aware of what is proposed at the Whittlesey Manor Centre well they are not reading this web-blog then.
I’ve continuously updated as information becomes available.

Yesterday Phil Hughes FDC Director of Leisure, met with local stakeholders.

Today we have the opportunity to ask many questions to both Phil Hughes and
Portfolio holder Cllr Steve Count.

Only myself, Cllr Naqaz and Cllr Miscandlon attended as Whittlesey Councillors, out of 13 currently elected, whist I fully accept some have work committments, only Cllr Laws sent her apologies, a very poor response, for what is potentially the biggest investment in our town for several gererations.

The public lack of knowledge this project is moving forward is again somewhat suprising considering the amount of time people are on social media.

So myself and Cllr Nawaz, had the whole 2½ hours with Phil Hughes, on the developments, updates and plans.
This is a very big project and yes there will be a public display Friday 26th from 09:30 on the Market Place and from 13:00 at the Manor Centre.

Over 400 repsonses have been received online consultation… Have YOUR say

Whilst no decision has been made on the final building and costs, that will happen next year and of course is very dependent on keeping within the proposed budget.

Muliti Agency Meeting – Update – Saxongate Residents Group.

Update from Saxongate Residents Group

Saxongate Residents Group attended a multi-agency meeting this week hosted by Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC), with Town, District and County Councillors and a representative of the MP also present. It was stated that the meeting had been called in part as a lack of public trust in the regulatory situation at Saxon Pit had been recognised.

Core agencies, the Environment Agency (EA), CCC, and Fenland District Council Environmental Health gave updates which included items that appear to have resulted in enforcement actions, some of which are ongoing. Notes from the meeting are due and will be shared we will publish them when available.

During the meeting we were advised that the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is conducting an independent review of potential public health risks from particulate matter at the site, including IBA(A). We have asked for more information on the scope of the report and will provide updates if and when we receive more information.

UKHSA scientists are leading the work, using data from the agencies, and will report against current regulations and limits. The adequacy of those will not be examined at this stage.
The review is under way, due to run into October, with findings expected around Christmas or early in the New Year. Additional site testing has taken place; we asked for details and were told these should appear in the report. There is no public consultation element. Rest assured we will examine the findings and evidence base in detail.

It was also indicated that Johnsons Aggregates and Recycling Ltd.’s 2024 planning application to increase IBA throughput from 250,000 to 460,000 tonnes per year is unlikely to be heard this year. By comparison, the proposed Wisbech Mega Incinerator would generate about 125,000 tonnes of Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA) annually.

Other issues were discussed, but we will wait for the official notes before commenting. Rest assured Saxongate continues to press agencies, councillors, and our MP on residents’ behalf, and will keep residents updated.

If you think you might be being impacted by issues from the site please contact us so we can advise the best route for reporting.

Yesterdays Multi-Agency Meeting – Saxon Industrial Area.

A group of pre-registered people attended this meeting, including myself as the District & Town Councillor for the area (Includes Saxon), Cllr Peter Bibb, and Country Councillor Michael Fisher.

The other ‘public attendee’s’ (12) were representatives from the Saxongate Residents Group, reisdents of Snoots and Saxon area.
The Agencies were ‘Senior’ personnel from the Environment Agency, Cambridgeshire CC Planning, and Fenland District Councils Environmental Services.

We were asked not to report specifics, and that a summary/minute of the meeting will be sent at a later time.

That said, we were given a very good update on what the EA, CCC & FDC have been both active and pro-active in the area, both in testing and visiting regularly (announced and unannounced).

Update- Bike Checked Over On Friday @ Market Place

18 bikes marked during week of events.

Thank you to all those who came to see us and get their bikes marked!

We joined the Dr Bike initiative, which is run by Fenland District Council, at events in Chatteris, March, and Whittlesey last week.

We marked 18 across the three days, and we took the time to talk to people about bike security and any concerns they had.

Unable to make it this time? You can keep an eye out on here, ‘Policing Fenland’ on Facebook, or our website for upcoming events.
