Bassenhally Farm Land In Whittlesey Sold
(RG Note : As a ‘paperboy’ in 1965 the Bassenhally Farm (Farmer Stephenson Snr) was my last delivery on my way to school) (The Paper-Round is another story).
Bassenhally Farm land in Whittlesey sold to developer.
The last piece of land belonging to a Whittlesey farm has been sold to a developer, looking to build a care home.
The parcel of land on Eastrea Lane was originally part of the Bassenhally Farm, which was owned by Cambridgeshire County Council.
However, most of the land, which originally spanned 48 acres, has been sold by the council in four phases over the past 11 years – in 2014, 2017, 2020, and 2023, for a total of £10million.
A report to the county’s assets and procurement committee meeting on Tuesday explained additionally that a lease was granted to Coates Crusaders for new football pitches, and in 2015, a 125-year lease was issued to a developer to construct 60 extra care apartments.

Standing For Election? – Getting Elected Is Another Thing?
Many who have a ‘voice’ in our community, often would make good candidates for local council. However as I have found on many occasions, Standing is one thing – getting elected is another thing altogether.
Standing on a political platform is much easier, as many voters – vote for the party and not the person.
I am a firm believer at local level, vote for the person – who you think will work the hardest for their community – believe me – there are many who once elected – do very little for their community !!!!!

Matt probably a good decision on this occasion – there maybe another opportunity for a committment….

Operation Galileo Relaunched
We have joined forces with Essex Police, Hertfordshire Constabulary and NPAS to re-launch Operation Galileo — a joint initiative to tackle hare coursing and rural crime.
This is more than a relaunch. It’s a clear message: we will not tolerate hare coursing or the criminality that comes with it. Borders do not protect offenders, and they do not restrict our ability to work together.
The operation includes:
- Coordinated enforcement and intelligence sharing across counties.
- NPAS aircraft supporting rural patrols and tracking offenders.
- Specialist rural crime officers responding swiftly and building strong cases for prosecution.
We’re standing shoulder to shoulder to protect our rural communities and wildlife. If you’re involved in rural policing or community engagement, please share this message and help reinforce our zero-tolerance stance.
You can read more on our website.
Kind Regards,
Sergeant Tom Nuttall
Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT)

Friends of The Manor Meeting Last Night | 16th September
Some 15 stakeholders attended the meeting last night, the main topic that Chairman Robin Sutton delievered was the impending plans for the upgrading of the Manor Centre.
He like myself had a meeting with Director of Leisure @ FDC Phil Hughes.
There was a number of questions and some concerns about how well this is being publicised and whether the ‘draft plans’ are set in stone already.
