YOU could STOP leaving it to OTHERS

Being involved in many groups and organisations here in Whittlesey, I can not help to notice – It is nearly always the ‘same’ people who are very much involved.
Of course many people do not want to get involved, stating busy lifestyles etc, the same people however find countless hours engaging on ‘Social Media’.
There are around 75 groups and organisations in Whittlesey and Villages.
One of my favourite quotes sums it all up nicely.

WE WERE ALONE (Martin Niemoller)

“When they came for the Communists
we were not Communists
so we did nothing
“When they came for the Jews
we were not Jews
so we did nothing
“When they came for the Social Democrats
we were not Social Democrats
so we did nothing
“When they came for the Trade Unionists
we were not Trade Unionists
so we did nothing
“When they came for the Liberals and Intellectuals
we were scared
so we did nothing
“When they came for the Churchmen
we were frightened
so we did nothing
“When they came for us
we looked for help
but we were alone”

Whittlesey Business Forum Meeting Last Night (21st)

Updated AM 230615
The Meeting began with a minutes silence in respect of those who have suffered in recent incidents.

This was another very well attended meeting considering how hot it was.
Excellent Guest Speaker Louise Russell – Young Peoples Counselling Service gave an enlightening insight of ‘Help’ required by ‘Children’ as young as 11 – Here in Whittlesey.
Cllr Miscandlon informed the group that the purchase/signing/rubber stamping of the purchase of The Old Police Station – To Whittlesey Town Council should go ahead today
(22nd June).

Later on the agenda, was the resignation of Cllr David Mason, who has done a sterling job in his role. However he is a busy man like many, but one reason for his departure was given ‘That the Forum’ had lost slight and focus on the business promotion of the group.
There has been some diversions from the core reasoning behind the group.
Chairman Stephen Hodson asked for a volunteer to replace David Mason for next months meeting, he also suggested a ‘Brain Storming session’ at next months meeting to address the issues raised.
The Trade Fair being planned by the forum is currently on track (Sunday 8th October)
See the forms below for outline & booking.

Youths will be Youths….

So today being the longest and hottest day it was not surprising that a group of youths were cooling off in the ‘Bower – Lock Area’ this evening.
Maybe they are unaware of the ‘hidden dangers’ and the quality of the water?

Trending Updates..!!

Good to see that the ‘Buttercross’ Tiling has had a wash down, I seem to reporting the state of ‘grubbiness’ quite regularly – I was once told – by a senior manager at FDC that the Buttercross is ‘Jet-washed’ every week – In your dreams….still it was done after the Music on the Square event without my intervention.

A nice new bench @ The Bower           Police/PCSO in attendance at Whittlesey Library
Hopefully it won’t get vandalised        this morning. Next engagement July 17th 10:00am

Police ask Call only if necessary.

We are currently receiving exceptionally high numbers of calls to both 999 and 101.

Staff in our contact centres are working incredibly hard to reach the people in most need as soon as possible. Please only dial 999 in a genuine emergency.

If the situation you are calling about is not an emergency, please consider reporting information online rather than dialling 101.

Non-emergency incidents where the suspects are not at the scene, such as theft, criminal damage and burglary can be reported via – https://www.contactcambspolice.uk/Report/Crime/

Anti-social or careless driving can also be reported on our website – https://www.contactcambspolice.uk/Report/AcDriving.aspx

Thank you for your co-operation at this busy time.
Superintendent Martin Brunning

Loads More Money-Money- Money For Community Groups

Good afternoon,
Did you know that there is funding available to help North Cambridgeshire communities become fitter and more active?

Community groups in the area (including Huntingdonshire, Fenland and Peterborough) can apply for grants of up to £10,000 for projects that promote physical activity and community integration.
The ‘Community Activity Grants Programme’ is available from us at Groundwork Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, as we have joined forces with Sport England and Clarion Housing Group.

If you or someone you know in this area is interested in starting up or running a project to help those who wouldn’t usually take part in physical activity, this is the perfect chance to get some financial support. The deadline is Friday 14 July so don’t delay!
Groups are encouraged to apply for projects that promote regular activity that support a sustained lifestyle change, including activities considered ‘non-traditional’ sports such as Zumba and outdoor gym sessions and regular wellbeing walks that the whole community can enjoy.

Applications will be considered from all not-for profit, public sector and community groups and clubs, with the most encouragement given to projects aimed at those who are least active in local areas, such as the elderly, disabled and those living with long-term health conditions.
Please do share this information with anyone in North Cambridgeshire who might be interested – and of course, consider applying yourself if you having something in mind.

Graham Duxbury, Groundwork’s national CEO said: “We are thrilled to be a part of a programme that will allow communities to both improve their health and wellbeing and help to bring local people together to create something new and exciting that the whole community can benefit from. We look forward to seeing the diverse range of applications and helping residents benefit from the scheme over the next year.”
Rona Chester, Sport England’s Chief Operating Officer said: “This is a really exciting partnership for Sport England as it enables us to try a different approach to getting funding to local community organisations that are ideally placed to get more people more active. Not everyone wants to take up traditional sports or be physically active through a traditional sports club. This programme will help find a wide range of groups in the heart of their community who can offer opportunities for local people to become active in a way that meets their needs”.

You can find out more on our website but I’m very happy to answer any questions you might have and support you through the application process, so don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Thanks
