Around 11,000 Postal Voters in Fenland Will Need To Reapply

Follow This Link To FDC – Find Out More.

Around 11,000 postal voters in Fenland will need to reapply if they wish to continue voting by post in future elections, following a change in the law.

Previously, residents could hold a permanent postal vote, with only their signature needing to be refreshed every five years.

However, under new national rules introduced as part of the Elections Act 2022, postal voters are now required to reapply for their postal vote every three years.

This means any postal voters who made their current application before 31 October 2023 will need to reapply for their postal vote by 31 January 2026.

Electors who do not reapply by this date will have their postal vote cancelled.

Given the large volume of residents who will need to reapply, Fenland District Council is starting the postal vote reapplication process now to give people plenty of time to reapply before the deadline.

From Monday 22 September, the Council’s Electoral Services team will contact affected postal voters by email (from elections@election.fenland.gov.uk) or by letter. Guidance on how to reapply will be included.

The quickest way to reapply is online at: Apply for a postal vote. Applicants will need their date of birth, National Insurance number, and an image of their handwritten signature.

If you are unable to complete your application online you can download a paper application form. You can also request a paper application form by emailing elections@fenland.gov.uk  or call Electoral Services on 01354 654321.

Well Meaning Social Media – However Wrong Assumptions…..

If I was given a £ for every time someone e-mails me or posts on SM about a piece of land being developed I’d be a rich man by now.

I am NOT saying land will not be developed and as I have explained to many, there is a web-link at Fenland District Council with all land in Fenland – where landowner(s) have expressed ‘A Wish’ to be included in what maybe a future landbank for development.

This can be found by visiting https://www.fenland.gov.uk/shelaa.

In declaring an ‘interest’ that I am currently a member of FDC’s Planning Committee,
we look at applications that the Chairman in consultation with the head of planning think need the committee to decide on rather than planning officers.

There are other ways an application can come to the committee, if the parish council object this can sometimes then come to committee.
If 6 or more residents object this will trigger the planning committee to  consider the application.
If the (FDC) ward councillor or adjacent ward councillor ‘calls in’ the application.

In planning terms there are very tight laws and regulations, so the ability of Policing, (unless they themselves flag up concerns), Hospitals, Medical, and Doctors Surgeries are not materialistic in planning decisions (unfortunately).
Highways/Yes, Education/Yes (County Council) and in some cases a contribution should planning permission be given, known as S106 towards for example play equipment.

Then what-ever Government are in power are always trying to change planning laws.
There is nothing wrong in good sustainable development, but there are many cases locally where ‘we’ have not had the planning reasons to refuse applications….

Next time donate a £ to charity…

Another Successful Street Pride Clean Up

I am very proud to have been part of this fantastic group for 15 years, almost from its beginning, still going strong although I don’t go out as much as I used too.

Street Pride is like many other voluntary groups in Whittlesey – run by volunteers and financed primarily by our wonderful sponsors (local) – it is a non political group as it should be, but some are making ‘Cleaning up Whittlesey’ in their political manifesto for their candidacy in local electoions. I’ll address this in another post later.

Well done again to Street Pride.

Ghosting @ PD.
A really good turnout of 19 members, who collected 21 bags of litter plus 3 five gallon drums. Also, not in the picture as they were left on the Peterborough Road, were 5 more bags making it a grand total of 26. Well done to all those that attended.

The next litter pick is on Saturday – 1st November – 10am – on The Butter Cross. – see you there.

Due to a misquote made unintentionally by (Cllr) Eamonn Dorling, has now been corrected.

Do You Feel Safe?

You’re walking home alone, it’s already dark. It’s not far, only a 10 minute journey to home and safety. But then you hear a noise behind you…footsteps. Is someone following you? Or are they just walking home too?

You don’t dare glance back, and the footsteps continue. All the hair on the back of your neck stands up, your pace quickens. You get that horrible feeling in the pit of your stomach.

You get your keys out of your bag, grasp them like this and hold them in your right pocket. In your left pocket, you dial 999 on your phone just in case, ready to press.

This is just a story. But if you’ve ever felt this scared or unsafe, keep reading.

Next weekend officially marks the end of summer, and as the nights draw in and it gets darker earlier, we want to remind you about StreetSafe. It allows you to report safety concerns in public places without ever giving us your name (anonymously).

This includes issues like poorly lit streets or alleyways, abandoned buildings, or vandalism – as well as instances where you feel unsafe due to someone following or verbally abusing you.

Please share and help spread the word – it could make more of a difference than you might think. Find out more about the online tool via our dedicated web page.

Remember – in an emergency, or if you feel in immediate danger, always call us on 999
