New Queen Street PPG – Sponsored Water Machine

Cheque Presentation

The NQS Patients Participation Group, handed over a cheque to buy a Water Machine to be installed in the waiting area of the surgery. On many occasions people having to wait, have found it inconvenient and uncomfortable at times when in need of a drink.
The Patients Group have raise money very successfully by selling cakes at the recent Flu Clinics.

Oil Being Stolen

This message is for those members of the community that use Oil for heating your homes! With the nights drawing in and the Summer fading fast, now is the time to be thinking about turning your heating on and checking the oil tank in the garden.
We are unfortunately starting to receive reports of Oil being stolen from tanks! Where possible try to conceal/disguise your tank. If possible install a oil tank alarm.

(These work on a sensor and will inform you when tank running low but also warn you if there is a sudden drop in oil).

Order your oil from a reputable supplier. When oil delivered be aware of vehicles acting suspiciously around the location, make note of index and make model of vehicle. If you see anything that you feel is suspicious please call the police on the non emergency number 101. If you witness a crime being committed please call 999.
Many thanks
Julie Bailey Crime Reduction and Community Safety Officer Fenland.

Cyber Crime Update Sept Issue

Interesting for those who ‘think’ “CCleaner” is NOT itself immune to attack – “CCleaner” is a piece of software that ‘cleans’ up ‘some’ files after internet use – do not be fooled into a false sense of security…. read the article.

WTC Planning Meeting 04th October

Mr. Boardman has another attempt in informing the Council of proposals to the Haulage Yard on Eastrea Road – I understand that this is to do with more ‘Trailer Parking’ on the site.

News From The PCC..

We’re supporting a new national campaign which aims to educate young people about how to stay safe in a terrorist attack. TV star Bear Grylls and England footballer Jamie Vardy are among the stars supporting the first phase of an initiative designed to teach 11 to 16 year olds how to react in the unlikely event they are caught in a gun or knife terror attack – including advice not to wait around taking pictures on their phones. With the UK terror threat level at SEVERE, children will be taught to RUN if they are able to, HIDE if they are not, and TELL police of the threat only when it is safe to do so. They will also be advised to warn others about an on-going threat, and crucially told NOT to stop and use their phones until they are safely away from danger.
The campaign’s launch video is here  https://youtu.be/s3y51Vd4kJ4

Very Poor Turn Out For Future of Cambs Library Workshop

Just 4 of us went along to Eastrea Village Centre yesterday for an engagement with Cambs Library Services to hear and talk about the future of Library Services within Cambs.
Besides myself and Isabella Boon representing Friends of Whittlesey Library, there was Parson Drove Parish Councillor – John Hunt and one Eastrea resident Sue Ross.
No Whittlesey or Coates/Village Councillors in attendance.
Head of Services Sue Wills gave us a brief on what is happening at present and wanted Public input as too how Libraries could develop in the future.
I had many questions in respect of the previous consultation which cut hours from our own Library (Yesterday was not a consultation just a workshop) – Another question was Does Whittlesey Library need to stay open longer – ie outside of core hours – so that members of the public who work days 9-5 say would have better access to the Library.
I suggested several ways of possibly funding an out of hours service – but first we need to find out if there is a need for such a service.
Our meeting lasted an hour and a half and we had plenty of input and suggestions
Just a pity that only 3 local people bothered o turn up for a meeting.
It was well advertised on this website, social media and at the library itself – I appreciate some people are at work during the day….

Good-bye to a Good Friend

My friend Kevin Bassam sadly passed away on Friday 22nd September, Kevin & I went to SHS school together in the 1960’s and hung out on our Motorbikes from 1967 for a few years. Always pleased to see me and help in any way he could, he had suffered with various health problems over many years.
Kevin trained as a motor mechanic at Mercedes Benz and then joined with running a business with his father. Trading from Peterborough Road – KB Motors have been established for over 25 years – with his son – Paul.

Connie and I send our sincere condolences to Janet and the family – the funeral arrangements will come later.
