Update On Yesterdays Manor Leisure Centre Consultation.

I have had 90% of contacts comment about the Gender -Neutral Changing Area for the proposed Manor Leisure Centre.

Gender-neutral, changing rooms are facilities that are not separated by sex or gender. They can be individual, fully enclosed stalls with a lockable door, or they can be larger, communal areas where people can shower and change alongside others of any gender. The implementation of unisex changing rooms can provide benefits like increased inclusivity and flexibility, but can also raise concerns about privacy and safety, and legal frameworks can differ depending on location and facility type.

I need to know more information, Phil Hughes (Director @ FDC) did go someway into explaining that nearly all new facilities throughout the country have this type of changing area.

A local council has ignored advice from its crime prevention officer that proposed mixed-sex changing facilities in its new swimming pool would be a magnet for voyeurs and approved the plans for the new facility in Stevenage. .

The document below sets out the ‘one’ item on next weeks agenda.

There is a draft letter at the end from the leader of FDC as to the ‘options’ he considers most appropriate.
The discussion/debate will take place next week @ FDC.

Update | Challenging Times Ahead For WBC

Whittlesey & District Business Community.

There’s a phrase that’s often attributed to Winston Churchill:
Success is not final, failure is not fatal:
It is the courage to continue that counts.

A change of ‘name’ made no great difference.

The Current Chair Erica Cave wanted to step down last year, however no-one was prepared to take over and she has carried on for another year, she states that she will not be seeking re-election next month.

Eamonn Dorling who has been the Treasurer since the group’s reincarnation in 2016 is also retiring.
There is no permanent Secretary.

So, having supported the group also since 2016, I find it difficult to see how the group will survive.

Like many groups/organisations, they were well attended at the beginning.

Several funraising event has gone very well.

If the group does fold, I will be sorry for this happen, Whittlesey needs a voice and group for its businesses.

Good Turn-out For Manor Centre Upgrade/Consultation.

I went along to the morning session and met up with Phil Hughes, (Director of Leisure) @ FDC and he brought me up to date with the latest developments, including the increased size (footprint) of the bulding.

I raised the ‘hot’ topic of gender neutral changing area’s which seems very unpopular.
He explained the reasoning, which is quite lengthy and I’ll not bore anyone with it, but ALL new sporting/swimming pools now build to this criteria.

They were quite busy most of the morning. (The weather helped).

Have Your Say To The EA before 31 October – Major Changes Proposed at Saxon Pit

RG Note : I have made my response (as one of the Councillors for the area) to this consultation on behalf of the residents who have contacted me about the issues/concerns and complaints about this operation at Saxon Works.

As of this morning 09:30 there has been 57 individual responses logged on the EA Website.
‘If’ you are in anyway concerned or effected then follow the link below, it is easy.

https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/psc/pe7-1pj-johnsons-aggregates-and-recycling-ltd/

The Environment Agency consultation on the Johnsons Aggregates Recycling Ltd permit variation closes on 31 October. This is the permit only, the separate planning application will follow next year.

The company is seeking to:

– increase IBA* throughput from 250,000 to 460,000 tonnes per year (an 84% rise)
– double daily IBA processing capacity
– more than triple C&D waste throughput (up 208%)
– expand total on-site waste storage by 43%
– reduce freeboard* (the buffer space between the top of the waste piles and the top of the
wall) from 1.0 m to 0.5 m

– and introduce outdoor IBA crushing.
*IBA (Incinerator Bottom Ash) is the ash and residue left after the burning of municipal and commercial waste in energy-from-waste plants. It is processed on site to produce IBA Aggregate (IBAA) for use in construction. *Freeboard is a critical safety margin that helps prevent dust, material, or runoff escaping the site during high winds or uneven loading. Reducing it by half increases the risk of escape at the boundary.

All of this is being proposed with a site footprint increase of less than 7.5%, effectively squeezing far more activity onto the same site.
In Saxongate’s view, this scale of change should be treated as a new application, not simply a variation. We believe the same approach should apply to the associated planning application due to be heard next year, given the scale and nature of the proposed changes.

There are only a few days left to make your voice heard. Submit your comments to the Environment Agency here:

https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/psc/pe7-1pj-johnsons-aggregates-and-recycling-ltd/

Saxongate has now sent in its detailed  submission which brings together technical analysis, public health input, regulatory documents and an independent expert review. It raises serious concerns regarding the accuracy, completeness and regulatory basis of the application. Specifically, in our view the proposal relies on the wrong BAT reference, weakens containment, overlooks existing monitoring infrastructure and depends on assumptions not supported by evidence.

We will keep you informed, and please do make sure you send your feedback in, the points listed above may help
