Cut Backs – Saving Money – No Money

I’ve heard this nearly all my adult life, (you have heard this from me several times before) I/we are told of the £££Millions that Councils have saved over the recent years since Government cutbacks in various subsidies.
Nearly every time I/we try and get something done in Whittlesey to make life a ‘little’ easier – we are faced with brick walls – make a business case – take it upwards.
Yes ‘some’ minor improvements have been made – but essentially it is a very uphill struggle.
Yes the Metro Mayor (Palmer) has a lot of money and ‘is’ spending a lot on his running costs.

Then all we hear in the news and press is the ‘vast’ £££Billions the Government is ‘planning’ to spend on infrascuture schemes (HS2) – The KD Bridge I have promoted for the last 7 years since its’ latest reincarnation (2013) – I very much hope will happen – but let us see if & when….
With many now openly concerned of ‘environmental’ issues in/around the A605 through Whittlesey a campaign very much promoted by Mr Peter Baxter – we hear a lot of talk….
Lots of concerns about ‘particulate matter’ (small particles in the atmosphere) and the monitoring of it – Fenland has NO measuring of particulate matter as it does not ‘seem’ a concern.
Here is a picture of me with The Green Peace Group’ I spend some time ‘learning’ on what they achieve/measure/promote and report to their Government (Not in the UK)

They have a nationwide monitoring system measuring all sorts of ‘pollutants’ including PM 2.5 – and a smartphone ‘app’ which gives ‘real time’ results from ALL the monitoring stations – No Money – well well…..
Would’nt it be fantastic if ‘we’ could have a ‘real-time’ measuring/reporting ‘app’ for the B1040/North Bank Road – It is not rocket science and does not cost a lot of money…?

Flood Warning In Effect….

See below or click on sidebar or sign up!

North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, East of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

Flooding is expected – immediate action required

Heavy rain has been falling on the River Nene catchment over the last 24 hours. During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road from the evening on Sunday, 16th February onwards. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. This Flood Warning is expected to stay in force for several days until tide lock conditions improve. Please follow diversionary routes until the local authority re-open the road. We are operating the Dog-in-a-Doublet sluice to discharge water during low tide, and reduce the flood risk as much as possible. We will be closely monitoring the situation, and this message will be updated by Monday 17th February, or as the situation changes.

Be My Valentine Scam – Please Be Aware….

Valentine’s Day may be a time for romance for some however we are warning the public of romance fraud.
In Cambridgeshire last year (2019) there were 86 reports of romance fraud, with total losses to victims of £558,026.Romance fraud is when fraudsters target victims, often through online dating sites or social media, to form a relationship. They will use the site to gain their victim’s trust and ask them for money or enough personal information to steal their identity.

The vast majority of people using dating sites are sincere and honest in the information they provide and in their reasons for joining, however, there are exceptions, and you need to be aware of how to keep yourself, your bank account and savings protected while meeting people online.
Crime reduction officers will be going live on the force’s Facebook page at 10.30am on Friday (14 February) to give information about romance fraud and how to spot the signs.

They will be joined by three Cambridgeshire victims of romance fraud who will share their stories with the public, as well as the CEO of Get Safe Online, Tony Neate.

Nationally, last year more than £68million was lost to romance fraud in the UK.

Romance fraud not only has the potential for victims to lose vast amounts of money, but the emotional impact can be even more difficult to come to terms with. We know this is a massively under-reported crime for a number of reasons, which is why we are trying to raise awareness of the issue.
To learn more about this type of scam tune into the Cambridgeshire Constabulary Facebook page at 10.30am tomorrow (14th)

Kind regards,

Lauren Alexander (Police, Senior Communications Officer, Cambridgeshire Constabulary)
