Monday 06:42 Flood Warning Still In Effect

Flooding is expected – immediate action required

Heavy rain last week has caused river levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road.

It is expected that this Flood Warning will remain in force for at least the next 48 hours and this message will be updated on Tuesday 12th November.

Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

Remembrance Sunday – Eastrea & Whittlesey

As per my previous post…. I did take along our 97 year neighbour ‘John B’ who was born, schooled and worked in Ramsey, received his call up papers late in 1942 – After inital ‘Square Bashing’ he was assigned to the ‘Lincolnshire Regiment’ and was sent to North Africa/Tunis.
Some 18 months later whilst at the Battle of Anzio, he was hit by shrapnel and lost over half of his right arm.
John was discharged and found work in Peterborough…..where he worked until he was 65.

Let Us Remember

My tribute is to ALL who gave sacrifice during not only two world wars, but all the conflicts still happening around the world today.

I am hoping to take my 97 year old neighbour ‘John B’ to the remembrance service today at The Whittlesey War Memorial. John ‘lost’ his arm in 1944 at The Battle of Anzio.
After his recovery he worked full time until he retired at 65.

I served and sailed mainly in The British Merchant Navy for over 25 years.
I am proud to have supported our armed services both UK, American and NATO on several occasions.

New Flood Warning in Effect Saturday 09th Nov

Subject: Flood Warning: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
A Flood Warning has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood Warning in force: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.
Flooding is expected for: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Immediate action required.

Heavy rain on Thursday and Friday has caused river levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. What you should consider doing now : * Act on your flood plan if you have one.

* Move your family and pets to a safe place.
* Move your car or other vehicles to higher ground, if it is safe to do so.
* Use flood protection equipment, such as flood barriers, air brick covers and pumps to protect your property. Any equipment should be professionally supplied and installed to help reduce the impact of flood water.
* Move important items upstairs or to a safe place in your property, starting with cherished items of personal value that you will not be able to replace (such as family photographs). Next move valuables (such as computers), movable furniture and furnishings.

* You may need to leave your property, so pack a bag with enough items for a few nights away. Include essential items including a torch with spare batteries, mobile phone and charger, warm clothes, home insurance information, water, food, first aid kit and any prescription medicines or baby care items you may need.
* Turn off gas, electricity and water mains supplies before flood water starts to enter your property. Never touch an electrical switch if you are standing in water.

* If it is safe to do so, make sure neighbours are aware of the situation and offer help to anyone who may need it.
* Listen to the advice of the emergency services and be ready to evacuate your property if told to do so. Most evacuation centres will let you bring your pets.
* Avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. 30 cm of fast-flowing water can move a car and 6 inches can knock an adult off their feet.
* Flood water is dangerous and may be polluted. Wash your hands thoroughly if you’ve been in contact with it.

The Future For Fenland

There have been events over Fenland Towns. The feedback so far is that the form is somewhat lengthy – that said I can only ask and encourage more to fill in the form.
What is put down in this plan (Whittlesey) can and will determine the Publics future for many years to come.
Please have a go…. https://www.fenland.gov.uk/newlocalplan
